The manufacturers are global entities. Before final tier 4 came out, the manufacturers got wind that Europe was going to tier 5 emmision standards.

Rather then reinvent the wheel. Manufacturers made sure the Final tier 4 here in the US would meet Europe's tier 5 requirements.

So even if we followed Europe's lead with tier 5, all the equipment manufacturers would need to do is change the badging to tier 5

Even if the US lowers restrictions, the equipment manufacturers will leave the equipment as is.

Sad but true. Unless the US mandated things don't have it. (Not likely). We are too big to ignore, but not so big that mfgs are going to make 2 versions of everything.

Know what's even scarier? What they are saying about Elon Musk owning every electric utility and being worth 20 trillion dollars in the next couple years.
Just what the world needs....one man with that much power to completely cripple us all. I don't trust that guy as far as I can throw him.

Who are they? Many utilities are not publicly traded. Elon has grander ideas than owning production of electricity.

What we need is a rollback on nuclear regs for approvals with enough poison pills that future govs cannot cancel them. Until or unless electricity production is stable, no mandates or incentives should exist to use it.

Oh, and I trust Elon more than any nationally elected politician.

Awesome to say the least. I hope you are old enough to remember sitting in a car, maybe at a light, behind that Eldorado idling in front of you. Wasn't the smell of those fumes the best. Roll back those emission rules and cut off those catalytics.

It didn't need to be in front of you. I once owned a diesel Eldorado for awhile until I swapped it to a gas engine. If you were driving in stop and go traffic, you didn't leave the windows or sunroof open. The smell and maybe taste were overpowering.

I largely agree, except that the sulfur itself doesn't do anything for lubricity. There's more to it.

well here is the rub....natural diesel vs additive diesel B5 ultra and others which claim to replace the natural lubricant sulfur...hydro technology claims to replace sulfurs natural lubricant. ....??????

from several studies around the world with different wording but essentially the same content;

"Historically, diesel fuels contained high levels of sulfur, which provided necessary lubrication for these critical components. The presence of sulfur acted as a natural lubricant, helping to reduce friction and wear. low-sulfur diesel fuels lack the natural lubricity of their predecessors, leaving engine components more vulnerable to wear and tear. Studies have shown that this reduction in sulfur content correlates with increased wear rates in fuel injectors and pumps due to inadequate lubrication"

and then there's the cost, .and as we know goes to the consumer and produces more and more bureaucratic involvement (think that is good thing? never has been) ..from a study in Australia

"hydro treating, during this process the sulfur is removed and replaced by hydrogen.
Unfortunately hydrogen is a highly reactive element; it reacts with other components in the diesel removing the polar and aromatic compounds that produce the lubricating qualities of high sulfur diesel.
Consequently we have an element (sulfur) that is a natural by-product of the oil industries refining process that has cost millions of dollars to remove, that they now have to spend millions of dollars to replace with a lubricity additives"

I beat that by one year when I bought my new Kioti tractor. ( it was tier four but not the final version) no reburner..... they had one 2012 clutch model left on the lot...Everyone wants hydro stat nowadays...but i wanted the clutch cause none of my land is flat. It was both research and a bit of luck but very glad I didn't have to fuss with the ongoing and forever increasing burden and cost on mandated so-called green energy.

We can progress on clean air and water without global political influence/interference. Eliminating choices through bureaucratic desk kings and queens seems to compromise one's freedom..

most of us in here are generally good stewards of the environment...our livelihood often depends on it.

Depending on the horsepower they aren't required to have def fluid.

So thats a slew of sensors that you don't have to worry about.

Some models do not require regeneration. They still have a particulate filter. But they run hotter exhaust temps to burn off the carbon.

So doing some research and talking to the actual techs when shopping at a stealership can get you looking in the right direction.

I do parked regens on my bog forklift at the the shop since it doesn't get run long enough to complete a regen.

We just got a new Hyundai forklift that's even bigger then our old one. I gotta call who we bought it from to see about getting the manual for it.

I haven't been able to figure out how to do a parked regen on it.

I'll have to look for the dongle to hook the diesel laptop to it and trigger a service regen. I've just been having trouble finding said dongle on the engine harness

Since we're doing copy and paste, this is basically what I've seen since shortly after the introduction of ULSD.

The process of removing sulfur to produce ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) also removes these lubricating compounds, leading to a decrease in lubricity."

So as mentioned earlier, it is not the sulfur itself.
