2003 TC30 Won't Start

The timer relay is only activated by the seat switch. If you hit a bump and your rump leaves the seat, it buys you a moment to get back onto the seat switch before killing the engine. With the seat switch bypassed, that relay now does nothing...unless the seat switch bypass has failed.

Thanks for this reply...... I did find the Timer Relay fits New Holland T2310 T2320 TC25 TC29 TC30 TC33 TC33D TC35 TC40 TZ24DA 1530 SBA385870301 fits Ford SBA385870301 fits Case IH SBA385870301 ..... I have an inquiry in to see if it can be used as a replacement. Pin configuration is different. Will keep posted. I am determined to not get jammed by NH. If need be I will attempt to bypass all of these

The previous timer ending in 40 is listed yet out of stock for $70. When you look up the 41 version, the very same 40 picture comes up with a price tag of $230!!!!

What gives? Feeling like we are getting jammed. Change a number and triple the price!

I would really be pissed if I ordered this part and it was 40 version printed on it with the 41 price tag.

Welcome to the world of aftermarket pricing, its not unique to New Holland.

Thankfully here on TBN there are some very knowledgeable people who are willing to help each other out to find ways around these crazy aftermarket prices.

Just bypass it..but keep the clutch switch so you cant start unless its pushed in.

If you're complaining about that you better get rid of that tractor. It only gets worse the more expensive parts you need to by. A rear remote for that tractor runs about 2K. I've read posts in here where people were complaining about paying $400.I would pay that in a heartbeat. I don't know of any brand of vintage CUT that has cheap parts that are still available. Most tractors that age you search for parts, and it comes up obsolete.
I hate it as much as anyone else, but I accept it and relish in the fact that I can do the work myself and that the parts are still available. Most of all the best thing is that all the equipment I own I don't have I any payments on.

SBA385870641 appears to be a timer relay in the seat switch circuit. I am not familiar with that seat circuit as my 1520 does not have it, and my T1520 has the seat circuit (which I have bypassed) built into the safety controller. If your TC30 has the SBA385870641, I assume it does not have a safety controller, and the seat switch circuit consists of the SBA385870641 timer and a relay which shuts of the fuel solenoid. I have 2 thoughts about the timer and its high cost, First, you said you have the seat switch jumpered and in that case, rather than spending $$ on the timer, I would figure out how to get along without it (and maybe the shut off relay). Second, the timer looks to be similar to the glow plug lamp timer, and those NGK oe timers are available for around $20 on amazon. If you want to replace the timer, you might (at your own risk) first try borrowing your glow plug lamp timer and try it in place of the seat timer to see if one of the $20 amazon timers might work. I found no information from the seat timer other than it is an NGK timer of some sort and it looks visually similar to the glow plug lamp timer. All the above is a guess from what I see on a TC30 wiring diagram I found online. The diagram lacks enough detail to tell for certain how the seat circuit works. A service manual is needed to get more information to learn much more.

Thank you for this. Yep saw those glow plug timers. Couldn't find any evidence that it is a replacement so have not attempted to swap. My seat timer is quite different. I might just bite the bullet. Haven't found any instructions on how to bypass and figuring it out is above my pay grade....lol. Thank you again for you input. Will let you know how I make out when I finally complete a fix. The thing that irks me is that the discontinued and new parts are identical with the exception of the last digit. Plus I can order a starter for this thing for the same price as this cheap little component.

Seems like a shame to spend that much for a timer when you had the seat switch jumpered anyway. I would need to see detail of the seat switch circuit in the TC30 service manual to know more. I did find this youtube video by someone who may of had the same problem

his explanation is not very clear, but maybe you can pick something up from there.
fwiw, the timer he points out under the hood is the glow plug timer and the relay next to it that he points out, I believe may be the safety relay.

There is another video there by another person with the problem on another TC30, but it is a newer one that has the safety controller. Be happy you do not have that.
