John Deere 4310
I found a mystery part while walking a tractor path after doing some brush hogging yesterday. I have a 4310 and an old brush hog whose brand is long faded. There is a small chance it is from something else but very likely it is one of them. The PTO was not running while I passed this section yesterday, which has me worried it is from the 4310. I am not that experienced with tearing down the tractor, so don't recognize the part. I did a quick inspection and nothing jumps out at me as wrong.

Seems like it was about 2" diameter, about 1/16"-1/32" thick, and has small castellations on one side.
The part will hold a bend so I don't think it is spring steel but not sure if after going through whatever happened it would maintain that property anyway.

That looks like a bearing race retainer, or part of one. I'd check the brush hog and see if any spindles are about to come apart.

almost looks like a ball bearing cage, double check the tail wheel on the cutter and be sure you don't have a bearing that's come apart

Man you guys are fast. You were on the money. On closer inspection it was the bearing on the tail wheel luckily, not the spindle. Thanks!

OP you were observant enough to notice. Most people would walk right past and not notice it.
Good save
