I've had a few of those. In each case, I pulled the pin and removed the rock-hard grease from the passages in the pin. The zerk usually works fine, it's the dried grease that blocks things.
Good info. Thanks!

Had a grease fitting on my tractor that wouldn’t take grease and I tried a bunch of times with different grease guns no luck. About six months later I tried again and it took grease very easilly, I have no idea why that happened but now I’m thankful I didn’t attempt to replace the fitting because access would have been pretty difficult.

If possible, I would yank that thing, tap the hole, and put in a threaded zerk.

OP, post 10, Oldtrix, this is what I meant, just without removeing the pin entirely. Most likely only the grease at the pin end of the grease gallery is a solid plug.
OP could you please post a photo of the pin so we can see exactly what we are dealing with?

Now there's something I didn't think about. Hell, I didn't even know there was such a thing.

Since I can't turn it, I expect it will be very difficult to pull out.

Think I'll ask at my dealer.

Thanks!
Every drive-in zerk i've ever replaced came out easily with a 5/16" wrench. The screw-ins in my equipment are all 5/16 or 3/8" hex. I keep an adequate supply of zerks, straight, 90°,45° and a few 30°. If one gives me trouble, it's soon gone.
I even have 4 new spring-pressure grease reservoirs JIC; you fill them with a grease gun and the spring applies constant pressure on said grease to keep the bushing, etc, constantly lubed.

Maybe accelerated wear?

I’ve had some difficult ones on antique cars and machines…

One was a bear so I used a hammer driven greaser with mixture of kerosene and grease over several days with heat on the bushings… it worked.

I think the kerosene was enough of a solvent to slowly work.

Rotating to different positions has also worked…

There was an old estate drive gate not opened in years and it wouldn’t take grease… heat and lifting the gate ever so slightly with floor jack did the trick…

The 16’ gate had enough leverage to do some real damage if simply forced…

Gate company had a 250 minimum and thought maybe a $500 hinge replacement possible…

Fixed!

I took the pin out and used a wire coming in from the back side to clean the area out. A couple times of doing that and using the piston grease zerk cleaner and it finally broke loose.

Below is a photo of the zerk. Taking the pin out was not too difficult. Has a cross pin holding the big pin to the linkage. A cotter pin and it was out.

I cleaned everything up and reassembled and all is good now.

Thanks, everyone.

BufordBoone,
That is a rough place for a grease fitting due to the bucket being dipped into all the worst piles of dirt, or backdragged causing dirt to pile up in that area. I tend to keep it over lubricated just for those reasons.
