Still looking since thats half the fun!
How did you determine the amount of LAND you purchased?

What were deciding factors? Did you know someone with XXX amount and decide it was to big or to small?

Just seen a plot and decided you liked regardless of the size?

We Kinda went by acreage amount, then other features.

When my wife and I went to buy I knew that I wanted at least as much ground as my parents had (1 acre) and not as much as my grandparents (180 acres) so we just told the realtor we only wanted to see things over 1 acre then we based it on the house and proximity to town, since I work for a hospital and have to be able to make it to work on short notice, etc.

The Realtor told me how many acres it was. ;)

Had been looking for something in the 10 - 15 acre range. A friend decided he wanted to sell a 24 acre plot he owned in the same general area.

The wife and I knew we wanted a few acres where we could spread out and play so we started looking for "For Sale" signs in areas that we wanted to live.

We were fortunate enough to find a 6 acre parcel that was much less expensive (28K) than a half acre lot in the part of town where we used to reside.

A young developer had just purchased a 200 acre parcel from a large corporation, subdivided the land and quickly sold it off. He made a fortune in doing so.

There are still a few bargains out there that can be found if one takes the time and does their homework first.

Went by price. How much land can I get for $$$. I found out 10 acres, 40 acres and 100 acres were selling for about the same total cost. 10 acres - $4000/acre, 40 acres - $1000/acre, 100 acres - $400/acre. Was looking for 40, got 120 instead.

Previously owned a place that was about double the size of what we own now. My son wanted to buy it about the same time a better piece of ground (and home) became available not too far away. I wanted LESS to deal with as I get older. The 45 acres we have now (2 seperate tracts, 3.1 ac. and 42.5) is prime development property. Plan was (and still is) to keep it for now, and as time goes on, start selling lots off of one end. (2 to 5 acre lots???)

Once, I wanted mega-acreage. As time goes on, it takes less and less for me to get my "fix". I see around 10 or 15 acres by the time I hit my mid 60's.

But initially, back when I first started buying land, it was about getting every inch I could afford. Best investment on earth IS earth.

I want to be one of those bad neighbors in that other thread and let my dog roam freely.

Only catch is that I could never be truly happy with the amount of land I had unless I had enough land that he got hungry and turned around to come back before he ever got off my property. Neighbors can be flown in for drinks occasionally.

:):):)

In all truthfulness, I bought as much as I could afford (and then just a touch more) in as private a setting as possible while still being within good driving distance of technology jobs.... oh.. and able to get a broadband internet connection also. :D

Ditto, except for the broadband, bad move on our part. Can see it, cannot get them to run it. But that is another thread.

I saw an ad for "land for sale by owner". I came out to look and met the owner at the property. I was fortunate in that I had a good deal of cash at the time too. The owner needed cash quickly and the entire piece of land had two tanks on it, a wooded area and a good deal of pasture which I couldn't see splitting up or in half with anyone. I let him know that I had the cash, and the more acerage I asked about, the lower per acre his price went. I kept asking and he kept going lower. Finally, when his price got real good, I bought the entire 50 acres. I wanted a fairly large piece anyway so that I didn't have to contend with neighbors real close.
