I like to have enough property with the right topography where if it gets real hot, I can UN-dress appropriately.

How did you determine the amount of LAND you purchased?

The ONLY way to determine the amount of land is to have it professionally surveyed.

I was asking how did you decide how big of an acreage you wanted...

I agree, a survey is the only way to go. If anyone has a dispute over a property line I can tell them to go argue with the PIN in the ground!

Yeah the pin is the best determinant. The pins are out there now I just have to find them. We have a general idea but not the exact spots. I'll have to get a metal detector to find several of them. We have 20.8 acres, was looking for 1-6 or so but this piece was great and affordable, sorta. I was hoping to make the move from town scratch, no mortgage.

15.4 acres (with house) was all that was for sale at the Sheriffs auction. I would have bought it with more acres, but not possible. I love it anyway :D .

I bought my 2.33 acres 40 years ago from my parents.
It didn't seem to big back then but now it'a a lot bigger.

I looked for years & years, then found an outparcel of a subdivision in a cove. I knew I wanted at least 10 acres, and found 30+... the developer couldn't cut this parcel up anymore...wasn't "flat" enough to divide. Perfect for me! Finding rolling hills, pasture and woods was exactly what I wanted in a land of flat delta land. And because the developer was ready to dump it, I think I got a bargain compared to "estate lots" in the area!
I'm 1/4 mile from my closest neighbor, but still commutable to work, and have broadband! It's country living just a stone's throw from the city...and getting crazy or stepping out in the yard with "minimal" clothing is the only way to live!

Hmmm.... thinking back, the wife and I started looking in 2000. We were thinking about 10 acres. I had owned 9 one time before and it was a decent size.

Then we found this beautiful place. the seller was willing to slice off the western 20 acres for us. We were hot to go, except we found that the pond would be right on our property line.

So we decided to buy the eastern half also. 40 acres.

We love it, but then he has another 60 acres that is available. We bought in early 2002, he's now asking 30% more per acre for the rest, and it's not as good as our land :)

There is probably nothing I need to do that I can't do on the 40 I've got :)

I bought mine from the bank after it had been foreclosed on. Wound up with 38 acres. If I hadn't bought it all my dad would have gotten half which would have been OK. About 20 acres field, 3 acres yard, rest wooded and field will be this winter. 10 miles out of town, no nosy neighbors, wonderful place to raise CD and his sister. I suspect will relocate the parents there later on in their lives even though they are only 6 miles away now and are far from needing relocating. It's the only home my children will ever grow up in hopefully.
