I see that your engine is water cooled. White smoke is a indicator of water getting into the combustion chamber. Oil would cause the smoke to be blue. You most likely have a bad head gasket. Richard

Great post. However this only works if the pulse line does not have a loop that can cause oil to collect in the pulse line. The pulse line must NOT have a loop between the pump and the pulse port. In other words, the pulse line MUST be all down hill from the pump.

I agree with dirtoys. I assume that the deck is engaged buy an electric clutch. I would suspect some poor ground connections. You will need to check all of you grounds, including the one from the battery negative. Richard

I don't see the need to replace the harness. Just inspect the wires and connecters. Splice and cover wires that are damaged and replace sections that are burned away.

Yep, look like a cable. possible a throttle cable came in contact with the battery positive terminal. See attached. The arrow points to a bare cable.

You said that when you try to start, you hear a "click". I think that the click you hear is either a relay or the starter solenoid. To me, that means that the start circuit is complete, but that the battery voltage/current is not getting to the starter. You need to do the little test I suggested.
