Question for those who live in California

The CA budget is ... again ... a mess. This year's deficit is touted at $56 billion but many think it is much higher. The Governor is proposing to further raise taxes on high income residents by eliminating the "net operating loss" (NOL) provision of the tax code. Here was my personal...

Went to my 20 yr high school reunion and saw old friend George K. Learned he was still in school, never stopped taking classes, and still had years to go in academia. Student Loan Debt?

The opposite is also true when raising "new" money. I have seen ballot initiatives for new municipal bonds that claimed it would "help Police and Fire agencies." Long term planning of selling your home?

Just across the border in NV, I built a residence over 5,000 ft, with separate detached garage over 3,000 ft, for about $3,500 in permit fees. In CA it's also a money thing. The State finally had to step in and pass a statewide law to reign in abusive permitting practices by the County. My permit cost to build a small "ADU" (up to 1,200 ft.) went from about $200k in "highway robbery" fees to be capped at $16k with no added demands...

From the article: "In 1989, the infamous “popcorn ceiling asbestos ban” marked the end of asbestos additions to these textured ceilings." The problem is that such dates are not really hard dates you can rely upon. For example, lead paint was outlawed in 1978 but that was only for new...

Question for those who live in California

Sometimes the voting influence of large cities in CA can tip propositions to win or lose as well as candidates. A good example is CA Proposition 103-- designed to "reign in" insurance companies. From Wikipedia: California voters passed Proposition 103 on November 8, 1988. It in effect made...

    Good morning!!!!

Heading to a sunny 58F in Beautiful Northern Nevada. Spring is trying to emerge but the meteorologist says at least two more storms are headed our way. Snowpack exceeds 100% in all measured locations so that is very good for recreation and irrigation this summer. Hope everyone has a great day!!!
