Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

I got the tractor to run pretty good finally with no error codes on the panel display. However I still have the Engine check light on and can't get the RPM past 2000 rpm So that is how far I can get even with the Service Manual as the engine codes triggering the engine light are not...

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

I got the engine to run....it's still in Limp mode so the engine ECU is not the issue... waiting to Kutota tech to tell me about the only error code I have.

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

My homeowners/farm policy would not cover as it was not listed specifically and it was outside. I did add the two tractors that I am making payments to Kubota since then.

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

injectors were actually easy to install. The heat damage was on the plastic connector on top of them. I got the fuel lines and fuel flows but does not get to the injector rails. Probably solenoid does not want to let fuel run due to ERROR-60

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

It's $1000 (main ECU). The engine ECU is 2k but I think it is the main ECU. I will know more once I get the fuel lines connected and run the engine and if it runs then it is the main ECU. I ordered the service manual too,

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

I opened the Engine ECU and found plenty of +5V power all around the board's ICs I think the +5V error is generated on the MAIN ECU (one below the steering column which would have been subjected to fire/heat) That Black Box is non serviceable all molded in plastic (second picture)

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

I did start fixing the tractor (should not have waited for Kubota for a year to settle) I had to buy: Wiring harness; super easy to install and included every single wires for the whole tractor as well as all the fuses. I did not have to get access to wiring diagrams or service manuals so far...

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

Update! My lawyer managed to get some compensation from Kubota! It was "fair" in his opinion. Now I need to decide to either fix it myself or just sell it as is. Either way we avoided a long legal process in which Kubota always seems to win.

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

Update: The inspector came to see the tractor back in August 2023 and we (i.e. lawyer) did not hear back until this week; basically they are not assuming any responsibility as they could not 100 percent determine that it was an electrical fire. Most likely it would be due due to "organic"...

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

None of the fuel lines and reserve reservoir were burned and they were is the path of the flame! Again this was a very hot flame that followed the wiring harness. Plastic burn

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

The inspector told me that they do not use Soybean based wiring at Kubota so not likely. Its been 4 weeks since they did the inspection but they never got back to my lawyer as they claimed they would.

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

So the Kubota guy came and spent two hours inspecting the machine. He also had a corporate guy (taking notes in Japanese). They did not speak much but the issue of insurance or lack of it was not an issue for the inspectors. Took hundreds of picture and confirmed that the fire propagated...

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

Ok here is the latest: My lawyer was able to write to Kubota and they are sending a fire investigator tomorrow to the dealer where the tractor is. I am allowed to be present so I will update after the visit, In me meantime the dealer keeps hitting me for storage fees.

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

I agree this forum has exhausted all the angles on this. I should probably have not sent the tractor to the dealer as again they have NO interest in helping. There are other issues at that dealership and I expect a change of ownership in the next few months. They have huge turnover and...

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

They want to tractor out of their shop unless I want to spent that 29k which I as much as tractor is worth. They are not interesting in discussing anything else such as taking parts off the estimates that are not damaged. My lawyer is dealing with Kubota directly
  16. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

My last resort is to fix it myself. I am not expecting this to be very hard except if ECU is damaged. It is kind of hard to assess things when the dealer is not letting me inspect the tractor while at their location.
  17. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

Dealer showed no interest in investigating what caused the fire and spent maybe an hour printing out 200 or so parts that could be affected by a fire irrespective of wether they were even touched by the fire.

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

The tractor was not insured at the time of the fire. for As I said my insurance co (home insurance) had provided a rider for it at delivery but neve billed me. I did insure the new tractor (M6060) and it was not very expensive. However State Farms is still asking questions about it (location/...

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

I own it. The reason for not retrieving it yet is my lawyer told me to keep it at dealer. As well as transport cost they charge each way ($200) and these added up on my other tractor as it took 3 roundtrips for them to fix a PTO clutch.
  20. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

Yes that is exactly what I did yesterday and lawyer sent letter to Kubota directly. My dealer is terrible and basically not willing to discuss about their estimate and when I sent one of my workers to see the tractor they did not want to let him see it. Although the labor is reasonable at...

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

The reason I said it would be easier to have the same tractor is that to have a reference for wiring without a wiring diagram. Probably 6060 is similar And yes it does not look hard to fix assuming the ecu was not fried

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

As I said my insurance produced an insurance quote at time of financing but then I did not say yes/no to it. I get equipment all the time and pretty much self insure. This was first time I financed equipment. Very good deal at zero percent

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

Well I needed a farm policy to be covered by my policy. I have over 10 properties with them mostly farms so I’d assume I’d be covered but it’s not the case I’m going to escalate via kubota. Although they quoted 29k to fox I think it can be done under 10k. It’s only wiring I wished I had...

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

yes damaged tractor is at the shop and they said it's burnt too hot to figure out. Basically was told to file insurance claim (I just did via my home owner's insuring) Separately the sales team is trying to escalate with Kubota.
  25. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

I did open the bonnet the day before and ran tractor for an hour on heavy load Next morning i ran for 10 minutes hence I am more inclined to suspect a short by insulation shorted... I don't think a bird would build a nest overnight (and it not the season)
  26. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

that's right; my personal insurance co provided a quote to Kubota when I bought the tractor but then something got lost in translation in terms of billing me for it. They think I could be covered anyhow and will send a claim guy this week.

Kubota L4310: PTO (just replaced) still slips!

As an update they called me and found out pump pressure is only 400psi and will need to be replaced. That would explain with PTO is slipping; right?
  28. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

Thanks; I really think this could be a cause because it happened overnight as I had left the tractor in a middle of a farm field (usually I have it on gravel) and the fire happened while the machine was not really hot. I had issue with soy base wiring on a Tesla and I had thought only German...

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

State Farms (home owners policy) told me to open a claim and they'll send an agent. I know I did not insure that tractor specifically but I might still be covered.

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

I really need to brush hog 200 acres and I've had other Kubotas and usually they are very reliable. They were kind enough to transfer the front weights from old (on left) to new one. And insurance was not bad (400/year via State Farm) Funny part is that it does not look bad when they do 60...

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

yes I am (40 more months) I am now talking to my personal insurance co as they sometimes cover such an event.
  32. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

Yes I have had my share of bird nest fires on various equipment over 30 years They are usually not very destructive and easily put out In my case it was plastic burning.
  33. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

I know I am adding a fire extinguisher because that fire was quite hard to take out although it was not a big flame.
  34. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

Yes I did now! only maintenance at 50hr is engine oil and filter replace.
  35. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

Dealer has been nice but somehow incompetent and overwhelmed lately with labor turnover. I have another older Kubota there for 3rd time because the PTO is still slipping (after they put a new one in) as they don't have a dyno to test. I keep getting feedback from this forum to tell him what...

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

I usually but even my z turn mower blinks at first 50hr for oil/change. I would not expect a diesel machine to need dealer service at 50hr,
  37. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

So if I had purchased the tractor "cash" how would that work in terms of warranty. My insurance company said they would "pay" and then fight the claim. The parts list to replace is long! not sure why the ECU/starter/bonnet and lots of items are even needed. 45hours does not seem like a big job.
  38. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

No..I did not see any messages on the dashboard related to service being needed
  39. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

As a follow up...see attached pictures. the fire started at the top of engine (last picture) and propagated towards the fuse box and dashboard. I also got the quote to fix and its about 4500 in labor and 25k in parts but when I read it it loaded with parts that are not even near where the...

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

I was just at the dealer and yes I am to insure the new one before delivery on Monday; kubota's insurance is twice what my insurance is quoting.
  41. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

You are right; my property manager did provide a quote to insure the tractor at the time of purchase (was like 300/year) but then I guess I made the decision not to insure. As I said I have lots of machinery in use and never had to deal with a claim in over 30 years. Will go to dealer shortly...
  42. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

yes my tractor started up by itself too after i had it turned off...pretty easy to explain as all the wires insulation was gone and it would be easy for the starter solenoid to be energized.
  43. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

will go to dealer tomorrow and take pictures....I was traumatized as I burned my arms and hand with all that plastic burning ...was not easy to put fire out even though it was not a big flame.
  44. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

60 hours. Financing was great 48months zero interest. The new one is 60 months zero interest.
  45. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

I had gotten a quote from my company and it was not a lot (maybe 300/year) but Kutota was not asking. I have tons of machinery (usually don't finance) and it would be quite expensive to insure each machine.
  46. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

Unfortunately i did not insure (never had any claim in 30 years) but I should have since this was financed by Kubota
  47. F

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

Not sure... I ran the tractor the day before for an hour with a high load (7' brush hog in tall grass) so I would assume anything on top of engine would have fried. On next morning it took only 10 minutes to start fire. Someone mentioned that the clean? function might have been going one...

Kubota M5660SUHD caught on fire (60hrs)!

9 month old tractor and I run it for maybe 10 minutes and notice that it has less power than usual Anyhow I see smoke out in the hood area on top of engine. I open the hood and flames spread out all the way to fuse box and the dashboard (plastic) I manage to douse off the fire and all the...

Kubota L4310: PTO (just replaced) still slips!

So he has the tractor and has no dyno! He put a small brush hog and wants me to come and show him what's wrong! I am thinking of locking up the spindle and show him that the PTO is slipping ; Normally should have enough power that the slip clutch on brush hog slips (on my bush hog the PTO...

Kubota L4310: PTO (just replaced) still slips!

Not sure...it's a Kubota dealer. I'm bringing it in. I thought they would not be any adjustment to make; replace the PTO clutch pack. I read on other forum about a seal that could be installed incorrectly.

Kubota L4310: PTO (just replaced) still slips!

Dealer put a new PTO clutch (split tractor open 2 engine hours ago) and am now noticing that when PTO is engaged I am not getting full power (i.e. it still slips). When mowing tall grass or close to the ground I see the mower shaft come to a stop. I do not notice a drop in RPM throughout the...

Kubota L4310: Lots of high pressure air coming out of hydraulic filler cap

I was trying to top off the hydraulic but as soon as I let the filler cap off a lot of high pressure air (hot) comes out This tractor was just serviced and I am assuming they put new hydraulic oil/filter since they had to split the tractor open to replace PTO clutch Any lead appreciated!

MAHINDRA 7520 4WD front CV/ U JOINTS ..where to find cheaper ones?

Ok my 2007 Mahindra 7520 4WD with almost 2000 hrs has bad front cv joints...specifically the cups/needle bearings are shot and that makes loud bangs when 4WD is engaged Anyhow my dealer tells me they are $560 per side! The issue is that Mahindra sells the whole assembly (forks, crosses...
