the extra weird link is a safety link to help prevent the cutters from contacting the wood when they go around the nose of the bar. When the chain goes around the bar nose the rear of that link will extend higher than the depth gauge.

I take the chain off of the saw when they come to the shop for sharpening. Bend the chain on each side of the safety link and run then across the bench grinder. And then treat the depth gauges as normal.

Loose valve gaps are very common on the Briggs single cylinder OHV engines as well as the broken compression release on the camshaft. Everybody will look at the battery, starter, solenoid as being bad but they are incorrect.

Yes because if the fuel bowl can't vent it overrides the float because the carb is basically air locked. If you have every looked at a jiggler for siphoning fuel from a tank The float basically becomes the jiggler.

Make sure that the hole in the carb body for the bowl vent isn't being blocked by a gasket for mounting the air cleaner housing. That vent hole blocked will cause a siphoning effect

The cylinder has been sitting with water in it for some period of time. So major rust damage, the crank and the broken rod pieces shows lack of lubrication failure mixed with water damage. And cylinder skirt damage from the rod hitting it.

The rust doesn't effect the magnet to make spark. The rust will cause the air gap to get smaller to the point it rubs the coil, and that will effect spark. So minor rust coating is no big deal but crusty buildup will.

The hydrogear 166768 is not a serial number it is a model part number whereas the 314-0510 is also a part number. When I put the hydrogear 314-0510 into my dealer system it auto converts to the 166768 number.

And even that is not a guarantee that parts will be available in 6 months.

The shuttle syncronizer gear will break in half and fall to the bottom of the transmission. The symptom was popping out of gear but could be held in gear by hand.

Looks like faulty clutch. Let warranty take care of the issue, and no Cub cadet will not send you a clutch, it will have to go to the dealer for replacement, and stop messing around with it because that tinkering can be grounds to deny warranty repairs in the future.

There is no cross reference for the MTD grease. It comes in 8 ounce tubes at around $20/tube and it takes 5 tubes. With that being said any good grease would probably work fine.
