Curious about this myself as to whether there is something special about these cables so they will wind on the drum without kinking. Are some more resistant to fraying? Do the ones with the user replaceable swaged ends require a particular cable?
Daughter had a Honda hybrid. Regular mechanics would change the engine oil, but anything related to the electric hybrid system required expensive dealer parts and service so we got rid of it around 125k miles.
In the case of an EV with no dealer system, IMPO the owners are screwed when...
That is a Troy Bilt tiller made in Troy, NY back when those were premium quality tillers. My guess is maybe mid to late 1980s to me. Still has the foam type air cleaner and a carb that can be adjusted. It may already have electronic ignition. May just need to clean the gas tank and carb or...
If the Slate price is really $27k but federal tax credits bring it below $20k, that just seems like another government induced misallocation of resources, IMPO.
Being 2 hours from a dealer can be very inconvenient if you ever need to take the tractor to the dealer for service. I would prefer having a good dealer closer if that is an option for you.
IMO, the HOA should consider removing the sycamore tree while it is still relatively manageable and less costly to remove whether or not the root system is interfering with water retention or the course of the spring. In my experience, sycamores grow to become very large trees. They seed more...
People around here call Sycamores water trees because they like to be near water and have an extensive root system. Now wondering if tree roots found their way into what feeds the spring?
I think he means tractors that have enough HP and weight to operate a 6' rotary cutter...which brings up the question of what tow vehicle and trailer you have to tow that size machine, too.
What does the ground around the spring leading into the pond look like? The pond looks like its about 4' down from what it used to be. I still suspect those two trees having roots inside the pond as possibly having to something to do with it.
PT1445 1800lbs loader. The articulation allows a short turning radius for working on trails. Here is the spec page: T18 Class
The PT425 is much less expensive, but also very capable of doing a lot of trail kind of work.
The list price for a new Power Trac PT1450 is $34,900 including a loader, but the bucket is extra. https://power-trac.com/index_htm_files/tractordieseldeutzT18price110123.pdf
I thought about removing a spruce earlier this year, but didn't because I didn't see any problems with it. About a month later, a strong wind revealed that there was a rotted spot like that one in one of the crotches at the top I didn't see.
Fortunately, the limb fell out into my garden area...
Harbor Freight has sold an inexpensive 4x8 trailer that can easily haul sheet goods for years. I doubt most buyers need an 8 foot truck bed. They want something that fits their garage and todays small parking places.
Just wait for the car makers to get rid of the windshield and install touchscreen in its place with a game controller taking the place of the steering wheel.
Looks like a springhouse between the buildings at the top of the hill and the pond below. I think the first task would be to see if sediment is blocking the spring outlet.
Could be a snake or two in there, too.
Seems like the base Ford maverick lists around $25. Asked the dealer about one and was told they never seem to get an allotment in that price range, only the higher priced versions.
Good to have both options of either using the 2 in 1 or the electric grinder. when I hit rock or fence line, the electric seems faster and more accurate at grinding back to something useable.
I think you can download the historic rainfall data for free to see if rainfall drought could be an issue. Search | Climate Data Online (CDO) | National Climatic Data Center (NCDC)
The pond location looks like it is at the bottom of a natural basin that has way more water collection potential...
Tempted to suggest looking at historic google map images to see if there was development nearby that changed the path of the spring.
Not my field of expertise, but if a spring source stops flowing into a pond, can it then act as a drain?
I knew someone who dug a pond that never held water because it was unknowingly dug over a sink hole that opened up a few years later. Point being it can be difficult to assess what is going on underneath.
Also see some trees growing in the pond basin…
If there are stumps below the surface that will hang up a box blade, my thought is to use a landscape rake or maybe drag a section of chain link fence to level things out.
Amazon sells a kit containing a variety of hyd fitting caps and plugs if you want to go that far.
Another thing I've done is to cover the ends with the fingertips from nitrile gloves to keep dirt out of the lines as a temporary solution.
https://www.harborfreight.com/material-handling/parts-storage/utility-cases-ammo-boxes/ammo-boxes/metal-050-caliber-ammo-can-63750.html
Or take your pick of plastic tool boxes from the box stores
If it is split enough that it will peel off, I'd be inclined to get it down instead of leaving it hanging. But use a long enough strap or cable so you are clear of it when it falls.
Much of this depends on whether the creek is deep and has steep banks.
I'd be very, very careful about operating near a creek bank that could give way or somehow end up with your tractor tipping over. This is partly why I suggested using a nearby tree as anchor point for a pulley to both...
I have a MX5200 which will move a surprising amount of log. I think the main issue will be the log sections not getting hung up on something during the pull that could cause any tractor to flip.
One thought that comes to mind is to buy a length of cable, a tree strap, and a couple of pulleys...
If someone where to set up a bunch of road pylons in a straight line and make a video comparing how a PT can weave in and out of them versus a normal tractor, that might be a good demonstration of the difference.
I needed to mow an area last year where there was no way to get a tractor...
Get a paddle, but if there are some still cheap aux boat motors to be had on Amazon, consider getting one, too.
Doesn't take much of a breeze to make a pontoon go backwards no matter how hard you paddle.
Hiring a forestry mulcher may be your best option if you have a lot of trees overtaking your fields. They can clear a lot of material and grind it to pieces in minutes without the operator leaving his air conditioned seat protected by a layer of polycarbonate windshield.
The issue with most...
Did the force of the water break the shut off switch or the wiring to it? Have you tried using a continuity meter to see if the switch and wiring is actually working?
my thoughts--
3m/peltor hearing protection is comfortable to wear for long periods and provides good noise reduction whatever tractor you choose.
Depending on the size and density of the saplings, a forestry mulcher could quickly mulch them up right down to soil level quickly leaving a...
One thing the OP might look into is the maximum cutter width Kubota recommends for the MX5400 v MX6000. I think 7' is the max recommended for my MX5200 which makes me wonder what the max is for the MX6000?
Years ago, I bought a Terramite backhoe instead of buying a BH attachment out of concern of an attachment breaking my tractor axles. Also understand mounting a BH is an inconvenient pain. I'm glad I made that decision because having a separate backhoe has been so much more convenient in actual...
I have used a similar procedure of having to unspool the fabric and position the unloader when loading gravel into my truck bed.
One thing that is nearly essential is that the bed be smooth so the unloader fabric doesn't snag. One member installed sheet vinyl flooring on his trailer bed as I...
I was talking with another buyer at a auction in another nearby town, and he described the auction as "the place were all the broken stuff goes to get sold."
I looked at chinese mini-exs and skid steers in nearby auctions, but didn't bid because of so many posts on FB that said, "I just...
My very rough guess is the dealer might offer you maybe half of what they think they can sell it for. As a private seller, you might have to discount that 10-20% to get it sold if you sold it yourself. If you are good at sales, you may do better than what I'm guessing, and I emphasize that I'm...
Sorry to say that I brought a 1960s house that was built like a brick (same well regarded contractor built several of them in different areas in our community) and have seen newer homes built like a shed. Literally the 1960s house doors/windows all operated fine. Trim was cut and hand nailed...
I rented a trencher to run about 400' of water line because it was so much faster than trying to dig it with a backhoe plus there was so much less soil disturbance.
Fact of life is hard packed clay is tough to dig.
These systems are becoming so complex and requiring specialized tools/scanners to the point that even professional mechanics won't work on some of them.
So much depends on the house and how it was constructed. My grandfather's house was built in the 1920s and had a boiler system with cast iron radiators that were wonderfully warm, but there was no central air so it wasn't pleasant in the humid summer months.
So far as cars go, seems like the...
I think John is facing both a ROPS conversion and adding belly pan protection for any new tractor because hardly any new tractors come with anything except a 2 post which is inadequate for the amount of forestry work he is doing, IMPO.
I spent a month adding belly pan protection to my L2501...
If it doesn't need major parts to be run every now and then, I might clean it up and paint it.
As far as a full restoration, I suspect the current generation has no idea of what these things are and they don't see their value.
Overpriced trendy TV show influenced on postage stamp size lots. Even worse, I see what appear to be three story mining shacks so they can squeeze as many as possible on lots that used to have one single family homes on them in Nashville.
If Kubota doesn't offer one at a price that suits you, there is a suspension seat system on Amazon available with a variety of mounts to fit various brands.
If someone is mowing terrain that requires quick speed changes, HST's are really nice to have.
I have no proof, but suspect that HSTs are also better suited to tractors with DPF systems because operating the engine at higher RPMs to supply full power to the pump may also avoid soot buildup...
My MX5200 has a removable screen in front of the radiator.
In my experience, having a good dealer close by is much better than having a dealer 2 hours away. That two hours becomes 4 hours round trip plus whatever time you actually spend at the dealer.
There are at least a couple of robust looking four post limb riser conversions by TBN members that give the appearance of being stouter than the factory 2 ROPS and providing much, much better protection from falling objects to the operator than the OEM...but you have to decide if your design and...
Question for my education. Since your forwarding trailer has a grapple on it, do you actually need more grapple lifting capacity than what you already have?
Goats do a terrific job provided you can deal with fencing them in. They have portable electric mesh fences now that make it easier to relocate portable containment fencing as needed.
But it may be less hassle to use herbicides. I've found it cheaper to buy from Amazon and a couple of...
From what I remember reading in David Halberstam's book about the decline of the US auto industry called, "The Reckoning," the Japanese auto industry copied a British 4 cylinder engine, but kept refining the manufacturing and design to make it more reliable. But we're getting a long way from...
Front axle and wheel hubs on the MX are beefier than on the L series.
One disadvantage of the L4802 and the MX5400 could be having a DPF system that may want to run regen cycles at times when you want to only operate at idle speeds to run your forestry winch?
Having to retro fit another...
Analog speedos never much of a problem, but the capacitors in a electronic speedo display tend not to hold a charge in cars seldom driven. Understand there are some shops who can replace the capacitors to get them working again.
But this makes me think newer cars chock full of electronics...
Had to scrap an otherwise fine GE clothes washer for lack of a timer control.
Wife has 2024 Jetta. That car has so many sensors and interconnected systems that I dont even think we will be able to service it without the dealer. One of the few cars in that price range that can be had with a...
I'd keep the Ferris mower, but add a tractor. You could mow the bigger part of your land with the tractor, but still use the Ferris for mowing the tighter spaces. That to me would be a win, win.
I bought a Igland 3501 tractor winch from a Vermont company that arrived last week. Saw that the PTO shaft is from an Italian company, but a made in China sticker on it. The three choker chains also have china stamped on the choker hooks, but no idea about the chain itself. Winch is labeled...
I've read that they smell where they've been so if they have an established path to your truck....
Maybe try setting up an enticing diversion trap for them to go to instead of your truck?
Read the owner's manual for the PHD before you buy it. I think the manual for mine says 35hp is the minimum recommended and it can vary depending on the auger size. Don't know what the manual says for the one you are considering.
If you use the TBN search feature, you can find any threads discussing the machines you are considering. Sometimes there is good information to be found that way. Members come and go and may not respond to your thread, but sometimes there's good information still to be found just by using the...
You could ask the dealer for a quote. Then you will have something specific to mull over. Seems like Kioti was having a sale on their skid steers recently?
I will admit to being unsettled by these new tariffs and where this actually leads. Adding 10-20% to prices on top of what inflation has already done seems pretty painful to the buyer.
The video seems to be their hydraulic version?
There's another video showing the GP40 that is powered by some kind of gas engine. I'd want to know how the gas engine is able to operate at so many different angles without having a problem with engine oil. I didn't find much info on the gas...
I've been clearing out some honey locust trees that have some nasty thorns. A burn barrel is perfect for burning the thorns. I use a lid to cover the barrel so it doesn't collect rain water.
Thanks for your post. I bought one of their Group 47 size AGM, and it fit in the space of the 80UD battery something or other in my MX5200. I had to relocate the ground cable from one side of the battery to the other side, but it was a pretty easy swap.
IMO, you don't want to spray heavily and don't spray the trees you want to keep. The herbicides that are effective against woody plants are not good for your trees.
Bought some cone shaped metal tomato cages years ago that are still my favorites. They used to make them out of heavier wire. The ones today are so thin that they will bend over in a strong wind if you have a full grown tomato plant inside of them.
I'd like to find some made of wire about...
I wonder if you'd be happier with a little mini excavator? The little gas units sold for $4-5,000 and the diesel units sold for $7-8,000 at the local equipment auction about a month ago.
Look at the stability of the brand and the dealer network before buying. A good dealer can help you keep your machine running while a bad dealer won't give a rip.
FWIW, somewhere I remember reading some advice to look at the white line and not the headlights, but agree that the newer lights help light up the road, but are also more blinding.
The advantage of the HST is you can nearly instantly adjust your ground speed to suit ground conditions, but the disadvantage is you need to maintain your HST filter and fluid. The HST is also very handy for loader work because you can ease up on your speed so easily.
Besides the usual 14 and 23hp gas AGT mini skids that all seem very similar in design, there was one significantly larger mini skid steer powered by a Kubota diesel at the local Ritchie Bros. auction. It looked more similar to a Vermeer in appearance and maybe twice the weight of the smaller...
Tempted to say the miva mc13 mini excavators are priced around $4200 in middle Tennessee from resellers who buy them at auction. You might find a better buy at auction and sell the HF.
If you get a new PT, I agree with MossRoad to use your 425 to move your BH around.
Also agree with Ponytug that there may be debris in your old 425 system.
I've never really thought about this before, but I suppose that a drum mulcher wouldn't be a good choice for mowing what most of us mow with rotary cutters. IMO, teeth designed for mulching small trees shouldn't be expected to be as efficient at that job as a rotary cutter. I suppose that...

I like your stainless steel dog bathtub. Used one like it at the dog shelter. Nice to be able to stand up and have something to keep the dog in the tub.
If there are other 3pt attachments you might want to use, you could weld the pt plate to a 3pt adapter or with some measuring, you could make your own PT/3pt carrier. If you weld the pt plate directly to the rake, it cant be used for something like a box blade.
What kinds of loader work? I'm just having trouble thinking of how much and what kind of loader work someone would have that would justify buying a BX size machine when they already have an L?
Seems like every time I mow my yard with a regular lawn tractor, it makes me appreciate my ZTR that much more.
My guess is you'll always have grass to mow, but how much loader work are you doing to do for the next 10 years?
My concern would be that using any metal edge on concrete will eventually damage the top surface of the concrete? The guys who plow snow apparently use some kind of plastic on their snow plow edges.
If you have a concern, why not call your dealer to discuss the situation while it's under warranty to at least put your mind at ease?
The local TYM/Branson dealer was a Branson dealer before the merger. He preferred the Branson models.
The guy who delivered my Kubota L2501 is also one of...
I have a Piranha tooth edge. It makes it easier to dig. The bottom is flat for back dragging. Don't know why you'd need to remove it for making a smooth surface.
When the soil is still wet in the Spring, sometimes you can pull most of the root without taking much soil. Also easiest pull…unlike dry conditions where the root wants to stay put.
Suggest you look on youtube for a video by Luke Fugate. He welded a large nut onto the roller pipe and then welded a corresponding socket onto the output shaft of an electric winch. That is how he connected his winch to turn the roller pipe without having to use the cable or a rim.
I personally would be very particular about what I installed on a tractor's hydraulic system because it could be pretty expensive to repair if something goes wrong.
The one thing I dislike the most about my mx5200 is the DPF system because it makes it difficult to run the tractor at an idle for something like running a forestry winch at low RPM without having to run a regen cycle at higher RPM later as a consequence. Having an emissions system that depends...
I have the HF unloader. As long as the tarp is not overloaded, the hand crank is actually pretty easy to wind.
If your objective is to install a large hub to drive the roller, why not attach a pipe of the appropriate diameter to the hub and drill a pin to mate up to the unloader?
The guy...
I would wonder if the sand content in Florida soil would be really hard on drum mulcher bearings when mulching the top layer of dirt?
When I had forestry mulching done with a drum mulcher a couple of years ago, the guy did a great job, but I still had chunks of debris which I believe was...
50/50 mixture of acetone and mercon ATF fluid makes a good penetrating fluid. An air hammer can deliver many more light taps than a person can with a hammer.
I through about notching teeth into the pipe puller, but honestly, it's not necessary. What is important is to use a stout pipe. Not sure that the thinwall pipe they sell today would last very long.
Years ago another member fabricated a "tree-getter" for his rear three point hitch. It was...
its the on and off the tractor with anything that wastes time.
If the pipe and the slot in the pipe are sized right to the chain and the hook, my experience is it will pull tight to the brush. Dont be sloppy making the cutout for the hook.
I would listen carefully to Terry's recommendations. From my limited experience, he doesn't appear to make unnecessary recommendations.
You know what to expect with another PT425 based on your past experience with your PT425. I think they may be about the same machine then as today except...
Sounds like the PT 425 was used instead of a skid steer. One way of looking at this is your wife's late husband has already gotten the money's worth using the PT425? $2500 for a pump. $2000? for a new engine. Then what else?
IMO, the question is whether a new PT425 fits your needs better...
Are there any cost savings to be had if they built a new unit re-using the body/wheels/ROPS but with all new hydraulic components and a new engine? The Kohler V twin might be the best gas 25hp engine available. I'd want a new one while I could get one.
Unknown hydraulic leak involving an HST tractor would be a concern to me. Even if you knew what repair was required, who would do the work? John Deere dealer? Independent tractor repair shops are not common where I live and the dealers only want to work on their brands.

Most ground is rough enough that 4-5mph is as fast as you will typically mow. Enter your cutter width to see how long it will take in theory for you to mow your property. Thick vegetation and obstacles will slow you down. Then ask yourself...
Those needles have rubber tips.
Over time, those rubber tips will stick in the seat as varnish accumulates. The seat needs to be carefully cleaned before putting the carb back together.
You could use a garbage can to contain the pieces.
I wear a helmet with a mesh face shield when clearing brush. I wouldnt want to get a piece of wire in my eye.
How many acres are you planning to mow and how thick and tall is the vegetation?
The 755 is listed at 15 pto hp here. TractorData.com John Deere 755 tractor information
That mid mount mower looks like a finish mower. If you keep the grass cut, I suppose it would cut 60" of lawn grass at a...
I've found I can't go by CL or FB prices. Chinese diesel mini ex's that sold last week for $6500 plus a 10% auction commission were being listed on FB for $11,999.
If you already have a Kioti with a loader, I'd think the next logical addition would be the excavator because it expands the scope of work you can accomplish.
I hesitate to say that if there are good anchor points, a series of pulleys could be rigged to possibly move this rock, but that could be dangerous if a cable were to break.
If you have property ins to cover the fire, your insurance might pay you and sue him to recover their money. You may need a lawyer to advise you how to handle this.
Are you sharpening only using a file by eye? I think what has happened is the correct profile got lost while sharpening previously. In my situation, I'd cheat and use the electric grinder to get back a uniform profile.
I suspect the guys who successfully sharpen only using a file have done...
This a new factory gullet profile out of the package for my echo. The package says to use a 5/32 file to sharpen. I don't know what chain you have.
I was resistant to buying the 2 in 1 file, but it has helped me.
Mahindra has an on line parts catalog, but I think any parts orders are routed through your nearest Mahindra dealer.

For the benefit of the OP, my L2501 has regular ag tires, rears filled with beet juice, cruise, and the upgrade to the rear 3pt hitch to make it easier to attach implements. Mine didn't come with any implements plus mine is the 2501 and not the 2502. The only discount I received was the equine...
I am also puzzled what ptsg is saying when a tractor only has a button to engage the PTO.
You shouldn't have to back the digger out manually if you pull the auger out of the hole repeatedly while drilling to throw the dirt out of the hole as you dig like BlueKnife said.
If you try to dig too...
That is the important question. Other than one landscaper saying they have about 770 hours of good service on their mini ex, most reviews seem short term of say 50 hours and focused on correcting quality control dissatisfaction. Still…$5000 for one of these units seems more appealing than $25k...
I remember watching a youtube video showing how someone made a simple tree mount for a small electric winch they used to winch deer out of the woods. That could be another option to consider.
What you are talking about is setting a pulley as redirect.
May require a lot of cable to go from the winch, to the redirect, and finally to the tree top. If there's a lot of winching, could be slow and involve some battery drain.
Depending on the angles, you could run into an issue of...
I feel guilty because this GSD mix apparently expects some commands from me besides the usual "sit" etc, but I haven't figured out what they are? Plus, she is obsessed with car rides, but I limit her riding to when it is necessary to visit the vet.
