Sick of cheap box store riding mowers. 1500-3k budget used zero turns?

If you have reasonable flat mowing landscape, a ZT would be good. Otherwise, they can be tricky/dangerous on slopes. Just got a Ryobi ZT 48v. Went flying down into my neighbor's tall grass off a compound slope with it. Bought it to help me with the lawn up around the house. Fine for that.

Tracking mud into shop....what to do?

I've had both turf and R4s. Both track mud into the garage. I or the wife just sweep it out when we take the tractor out. Maybe R1s would not track so much?

    JD 1070 Oil viscosity

Zee best would be M1 0w30 ESP like I just put in the JD 2025R in place of the VW Castrol 5w30 that I'd been using. Next best (and less expensive) is 5w40 T6 someone else mentioned. Downhill from there. 15w40 is probably about the worst other than a plain 30w.

75 acres of timber with house - trails, small garden, invasive control

We had lots of invasives and downed trees on about 4 or 5 acres of our 8.5. The wife took them on with her not going to the gym. With her trusty battery chain saw, she cut down the autumn olives and cut up the downed trees and loaded them into the bucket of the JD 2025R. I piled them from the...

Pto issues wont turn on was running and stopped

The rear PTO stopped working on the JD 2025R a few weeks back. PTO light was still on. Thought I'd sheared a shear bolt in the bush hog. Nope. JD picked it up the end of that week and had it back to me by the end of the next week. Cost me $694, almost half that in just the PTO relay that...

    Marmot Infestation

I fought the groundhog war and lost it in NJ. Here in Va, they haven't really been a problem, but I trap them if they get too close, like underneath the pool decking in a hav-a-hart trap with cantalope. Nice to hear about the apple cores. Better to lure them with something that has been eaten...

    Going gasless

Am gasless now. The Honda HRR216VLA was taken away this morning for $200, 8 years old. Gave them the 2 gas containers, too. One still had a little in it. I'd emptied the 2 gallon one into the Tacoma's thirsty mouth.

    Walkbehinds and side hills?

Information on rear discharge versus side discharge & OCDC

I've been mulching forever and have really never had an issue with lots of dead grass being either a problem nor an eye sore. Just a new Ryobi ZT 48v and put the discharge closure on it and removed the side deflector. Same for the new Ryobi 40v walkbehind: put the plug in the rear discharge...

    Noob question 4 wheel drive

Fully agree with Jeff. Run in 4wd ALL the time unless on paved surfaces for a period of time. In 2WD, you only have 2 wheel brakes. VERY dangerous if you do down any slope at all in 2WD.
  22. RalphVa

    Going gasless

I've done a separate review on it. Had some problems going down complex hills where the slope is in 2 directions. Haven't used the brake yet. Was trying to control it with the motor sticks (motor on each wheel). Gotta avoid reversing direction or causing the wheels to spin at all. It goes...

    Review of Ryobi ZT480e

Any tire recommendations? Do they make a turf tire with maybe little spikes? Think they're 18x8.5-10. Never mind. Found some videos where they put on some other tires. Anyone backing down slopes? One video advocated backing down slopes, particularly when a pond or a fence is at the bottom...

    Walkbehinds and side hills?

    Going gasless

Have used the Ryobi 21 inch crosscut now several places. It's virtually the same as the very excellent Honda gas mower but easier to maneuver because it's so light weight. Battery longevity seems to have gotten better the 2nd time around. Reasonably sure it'll do the whole ~ 1/2 to 3/4 acre...

    Going gasless

I'd let big patches of all that grow up to make wildflowers. Just mow paths through it. Then chop down once/yr. Have 2 or 3 off shoots to our "lawn" that we do this on. Lawns are to drive on or play on. Unless you need a ball field, there is no reason to mow great big acres of it regularly.

Don't think 2 batteries will do in the Ryobi 40v 21 inch. Think 2 will do near an acre but not 4. Gotta wonder why anyone mows 4 acres. Just mow paths through and bush hog once/yr. That's what I do to some offshoots to our lawn.

    Questions about snow removal.

Use the FEL and rear blade. Our driveway is fairly flat; so, no need for chains. When I had a Gravely, it needed chains to push its big snow plow or to run the snow blower. Need turning brakes in snow/ice unless you have turfs. They will grip a bit in snow to turn. R4s are almost hopeless.

Oil & Fuel Hydraulic and Motor oil questions for 2210D

See what your manual says. Would think that an ISO 32 or 46 hydraulic fluid would do. Would err on the low side and get 32, as it would be better for cold winter starts and would still be okay for summer. For motor, the best would be a 0w30 ESP (exhaust system protection) by M1 at Advance...

Zero turn vs hst tractor reliability

    Time for a Zero Turn

Yeah. Thinking its safest to back up a hill. I'm not getting for the speed, just maneuverability. The Ryobi has a "slow" button that you can push to avoid some possible jolt by the drive system taking off too fast.

    Time for a Zero Turn

I'd advertise it for maybe $120. When we get the Ryobi, the wife says the old JD 14SB has to go. Think I'll advertise it for $150. I replaced the blade brake on it a couple years ago. There's a local Nextdoor thing online here that is good for selling stuff like these.

Through happenstance maybe promoted by what we cannot control, I'm off the gasoline powered ones. Here's what I told the wife: I guesstimate added costs for a gasoline zero turn to be about $200/yr in gas vs kw, oil, spark plugs, air filter, belt. Just a lot more hassle to run get gasoline...

    Which WoodMaxx Chipper?

Your tractor can easily run an 8 inch chipper. Got a 4x6 (WM WC46) on the 2025R, and it just loafs along, about half the PTO hp yours has. Hp only goes up by sq rt of wood diameter. So, double the diameter, and it goes up 40%.

I'd back up the hill and then go forward down it. ALWAYS keep in 4wd unless on pavement. Otherwise, you won't have any front brakes, which can be disastrous going downhill because the back may skid in 2wd. If there's a tapering or nearer level spot at the top of the hill. You could turn...
