    Towing a 5th wheel camper with a 9' flatbed?

I just went measure and it is about 69" from the center of the ball to the back corners of the bed, and about 60" from the center of the ball to the back of the bed. You can see in the pics how the ball is recessed in the bed. Moving the ball would be difficult. And you can also see where my...

    Towing a 5th wheel camper with a 9' flatbed?

I am in the process of buying a used 5th wheel camper. My truck is a Ram 3500 with a 9' flatbed with a gooseneck hitch. I plan to buy a 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter to mount on the camper. My concern is whether or not I will have enough clearance between the rear of my flatbed and the...

Oil & Fuel  L5740 fuel filter assembly broke

Several days ago while laser grading a softball infield, I stepped out of my L5740 to make an adjustment and noticed lots of diesel pouring out of the fuel filter. There is a small elbow on the filter assembly where the fuel leave the filter going to the pump. That small elbow had just come...

    2016 Deer season thread

Just noticed this thread. Took this nice Axis in Concho County Texas opening weekend (Nov. 6th). His main beams are just over 27" which is not as good as the one I took 4 years ago that was 34" and made the SCI record book at number 26. Rifle season opens here in Louisiana this weekend. (Nov...

    Flooding in Louisiana

I'm surprised no one has started a thread here about the Louisiana flooding. I'm pretty much in the middle of it. We had about 23" in about 30 hours on Friday and Saturday. I am VERY fortunate that none of my home or shop or equipment had any water damage. But, many others are not so...

    3/4 ton vs. 1 ton

Got the bed on today. 9'4" bed, 2 top toolboxes, 1 underbed box and spare tire holder for about $5400. I had the fuel tank already, and they mounted it for me. It's hooked to my gooseneck with the tractor loaded for a 300 mile trip in the morning. It's got 120 miles on it and I've got it...

    3/4 ton vs. 1 ton

Well.....I finally made a decision. I looked at lots of used trucks that were set up like I wanted, but ended up going with a new one. I'm getting a 9'4" CM bed put on it tomorrow. I hope I made the right decision.....

    Deer feeder batteries???

Does anyone know if a deer feeder battery that will last all season? I'm talking about 6 volt batteries. We have about 10 feeders on the lease and have not had much luck with batteries. We tried the rechargeable type, and they will last about half the season, then need to be brought back in...

    3 point hitch 'hops'

I have a 2006 New Holland TC45A with about 1600 hours on it. Recently, the 3 point hitch has started to 'hop'. When it is lifted, it will drop an inch or 2 then lift itself back up. This happens quickly and continues as long as the tractor is running. I changed the oil and filter, but the...

    Heat index contest

I don't know how accurate this is, but I snapped this screenshot today. This is an area about 100 miles from me, near my deer camp, which is about 30 miles northeast of Baton Rouge. Also got this one in my truck about 5 miles east of Lake Charles, LA. on Interstate 10 at about 3:00pm today.

How to clean rust out of a diesel transfer tank?

Well....I chickened out on using the old tank and just bought a new one. Found a very similar tank at Tractor Supply on sale for $300, which is $50 off the regular price. I picked up about 2 weeks of work with my tractor and need to start tomorrow, so I didn't have time to fool with the old...

How to clean rust out of a diesel transfer tank?

Already have one of those on it. Changed the filter twice already. The bottom of the plastic bowl had about 1" of mud (rust) in it. The end of mine is cut at an angle. I'm not sure how close to the bottom it was, and it is adjustable. When I go back in with it, I'll make sure it's about an...

After lots of rain this spring and early summer, we have been about 3 weeks without rain, and grass is dying. Down here in the deep south, we have very high humidity which results in high dewpoints and very uncomfortable weather. What kind of 'heat index' do you have in your area? Below is a...

How to clean rust out of a diesel transfer tank?

Last year I bought a used 100 gal. fuel transfer tank from my nephew. I got if for $275 including a good pump. It sat up most of the winter with about 75 gal. of diesel in it. Recently, I loaded it on my trailer and began using it. I pumped at least 300 gallons through it in the past 6...

    Front wheel bearings failed L5740

I spent all day loading big rolls of sod into the planter. I estimate these rolls weigh about 1000-1200 lbs each. Hopefully, I didn't break any more bearings. I did seem to feel a 'chatter' from time to time. I'm thinking that may be the gears that were chewed up pretty good on the first...
