With nosigns of the rings being broken or a Broken Piston is a good thing. And the drip of oil on the Rod bearing is a good sign. No big Breaks or Gouges from the looks. The piston has Oil Rings and let a small amount of oil pass. Lubricates the Cyl. wall.

Remove the starter and see if you can move the fly wheel through the mounting hole. If it don't move with very little tention forward or backwards is a big problem. Your pulling piston rods on the crank shaft until you can move the crank shaft. JMO!

Thats why I mentioned it through the starter. Won't take much plus you can turn it backwards. The broken ring will hopefully fall down into the oil pan and maybe stuck on the bottom of the cyl. wall and top of the piston.. He's going to be turning that crank at some point until he finds the bad...
