Caustic, I am happy to gather whatever information you need to help me. I want to better understand this tractor and will need a parts manual and several parts to get her where I want her. Thank you very much.

Here are the numbers on the block. I have also included the hydraulic 'manifold' where the lever on the dash actuates. pic grt shows the rod connecting to the hydraulic manifold and filter assembly.

The only identifiable numbers are a stamped 4800 on the side of the block.

This morning's pictures. And the gearbox does look very much like the one pictured by Caustic. And I see a filler for hydraulic fluid next to the PTO release lever on pic 6 now that I pay attention.

I do have power steering and I believe it is common to the transmission hydraulics. I have checked that level next to the PTO and Gear Shifters and the level is in the proper range. I will take a picture of them in the morning and post, thank you. but I can tell you I have a clutch on the...

I will pull the covers off and check it out. That would answer a lot of questions. if this is out of adjustment or not working, could explain my troubles. Thank you.

That makes sense. This tractor's pto is engaged all the time IF the PTO gearbox is in a gear. I will check that out. Thank you! Still more mysteries to solve, but this solves one of my questions. I will check to see if there is an adjustment to make this level functional.

No, there are not any pedals that are forward and reverse. I have a high low 4 speed with a clutch. I also have a pto with 4 speeds. I have a modern hydrostatic, and this is nothing like it. But again, the tractor does not slip like a slipping clutch, it just stops very similar to my modern...

I could not find numbers on the engine, but found these on the main body just under the seat. 140D-50451 I drove it and noticed that on several occasions, when I turn the steering wheel, it would stop the tractor. This makes me believe it is hst. Where is the level dip stick to check that...

Thank you. I will look for the engine numbers. So an HST transmission is hydraulic with a clutch? I have a modern JD with a hydrostatic, and of course no clutch or shifting, just forward and reverse.

That is the really odd thing, the clutch pedal is stiff with good travel and when the tractor moves, no evidence of a slipping clutch, engine bogs down as it should. Since I do not know how this tractor works, at least I do not think it is a simple clutch system, there must be an assisted...
