if it's the original 30+ yr manual, it's probably outdated in terms of today's products. i have an Alamo product (formally Rhino) & got good lube info from their service tech re:gearbox oil. fortunately your dealer is also a friend, but may be uninformed on proper hyd fluid.

have you contacted the manufacturer on current oil recommendations vs owners manual? dealer may be clueless... that's where i'd start, what manu recommends for new machines & under warranty.

Kubota's shuttle shift (as stated above) requires clutch depression for directional change & is a dry clutch type hydraulic shuttle is a wet clutch pack & does not require clutch depression. a wet clutch pack is considered more long lived than the dry type.

you might be right. hard to say. oil is heavier than water & will settle. but i would recommend this method a few times before going to the expense of a 2nd full change. if the OP's hyd started to malfunction due to moisture, it may require a flush then final change. but i'd try my method...

instead of changing a 2nd time, wait till the tractor's been sitting cold several days, then briefly remove drain plug to purge moisture that will have collected on bottom of sump, then top off. when the hyd fluid is warm, the fluid goes grey from the water mix. good luck & get a new gear boot...

OP: recommend purchasing land 1st before choosing a new tractor. keeping in mind, 25hp is about the same as a zero turn mower. can't imagine mowing 15-20 acres with a machine that size. regards,
