If that is the same as LS design, the down speed control for 3pt is under the seat between your legs when seated near the floor. Is Your NH fitted with the auto lift? looking at the LS XU manual, there is also a position control lever that may impact operation. -- more complicated than my XR.

Are you sure you don't have a short in the original wire between the key switch and the solenoid start?

You have to follow the cables to see where they attach. The black one will typically be bolted into the frame somewhere, and maybe also to the engine block. The red one will have one leg that attaches to the starter hot lug, and a second leg that will feed the ecu/main fuse panel/etc...

or same concept as above ... cheap hydro or electric motor running an unbalanced pulley attached to the bucket. Saves wear & tear on the motor bushings/bearings & cheaper to replace bearings on the pulley shaft.

While you are in there, it would be a good idea to wire wheel under that ground connection & coat the connection with vaseline or dielectric grease after reattaching. Your cable strands are exposed & will wick moisture & start to corrode inside the insulation.
