During mud season there is not a lot I can do. The ground is frozen 3 or 4 feet down except the top which become a slurry. So you make ruts and holes. Water has no place to go so it just sits there. But I got some roadside/powerline maintenance done. gg

That all makes sense. It is different here. In early spring it is still quite cool - below freezing at night and no bugs. Comfortable working weather. Wood pile stays frozen until then and off the ground does not pick up any additional water. There is lots of mud and water in the woods then so...

Going from a 7' to an 8' would give you 6" more on each side. That would be a noticeable difference that. But the 8' would also be harder to steer and push your front end around more. Everything is a trade-off. gg

Adding to the above - if I put an 8 footer on there it would give me less than 3" more on each side when angled. I don't think that is enough to make any difference at all. gg

I have a 7'-6" plow on a 6'-6" wide tractor. Same 1 foot difference you have. I run it fully angled all the time. Like dstig1 says - it's close but it works fine for me. gg

Google 'weld on lifting lug' to start. Might have to poke around to find the shape you want with a surface for the grab hook. I cut mine out of a scrap piece of 1/2" plate and used a hole saw. Good point about the 90* side load ! gg

If you didn't want the shackle lug you could rotate the grab hook 90* and weld it to the vertical side of the tine. gg

I have a Farmi winch. I do have to pull hard on the rope for a very hard winch pull. I would check the clutch adjustment first. Pull the rope and watch the lever. If the lever moves up more than an inch or so before the winch starts to pull on a smallish log the clutch could use some adjustment...

The synthetic rope is lighter and easy to handle. Also strong but the abrasion resistance is not good. As you know from experience steel cable lasts a long time. I like your nice old winch - nothing wrong with that ! gg
