Are you inquiring about the steering cylinder or the front axle? Steering is all the same system. Front axle is totally separate fluid from hydraulics.

You want the orifice in the line that restricts oil out of the cylinder from external loads. In this case the load is trying to extend the cylinder so orifice or restriction should be in the rod end.

The load holding valve can be integrated or hard plumbed to the cylinder. Depending on style and or brand of valve it may have a cap that sticks out and inch or more or it could like a standard hex head plug. I think you could just swap upper valve hoses and test.

Most man lifts will have some form of load holding valve at the base of the cylinder. Can you see the base of the cylinder or is it buried in the frame?

Johnkn What you are describing is 3rd function in power beyond. With this type you are capable of feathering the loader or curl dump while using the grapple. Is it possible you are moving the joystick while operating the grapple? You may not have to move the joy stick to much for this to happen.

Do you have the hydraulic flow to run a loader mounted brush mower. All of the Alamo or Diamond mowers I have seen run off a dedicated pump mounted on the front off the crank shaft. Running on tractor pump mower would potentially change speed or stop every time you move the loader.

Troy By your description they sound like pilot operated directional valve. Have you tried pushing on the end of them to see if the spool moves freely similar to what kenny posted?

The only place there could be seals on the directional valve that allow cylinder movement would be work port relief valves if your valve assembly has them. Majority of cylinder drift problems are bad seals in the cylinders.

Since you have C- style shanks they will drag some vines out but next problem could be getting those vines out of the cultivator. I know they will drag tree branches and wipe out corn rows very effectively…

Where was the filter located that you changed. If on inlet or suction side of pump and not OEM they can cause pump to cavitate - starve for oil which would create symptoms you are describing. So would strainer screen clagg references.
