    JD 835M

I'll be picking up a JD 835M next Friday. Open cab, half windshield, turn indicators. I'll be adding a winch from WARN and front tool rack. Maybe I can get a few pictures of it before the wife drives off with it next week...

    New NH Rustler 850?

Has anyone seen or tried this new UTV from NH? Some other manufacturer is making them for NH, but I'm not sure what the comparable model is. Opinions or more information is welcome.

JD 336 baler. Will knotters from other JD square balers work and if so, which ones?

I'm curious if the 336 requires a a knotter from only 336 or if a knotter from a 14T, 338, 348, 12T etc would work on it as well.

Kicker on JD 336 isn't working correctly

The kicker will throw one bale, but the pan won't float back down. If I lock it into safety, it will drop back down. It's like there's a hydraulic valve that's not closing correctly after kicking. Anybody have experience with these? I just picked up the baler (which works great otherwise)...

Stihl 026: Hard to start. Runs fine, but won't idle.

I'm about to start troubleshooting my 026. I've owned it from new and it's always was a little tough to start, but now, I need to spritz starter fluid into the air cleaner and it starts first pull. Otherwise, no go if it's cold. It cuts strong and revs up fine. When it's just idling, it...

Can the rollers on an older John Deere 1219 be "resurfaced"?

I found one of these that's running fine, but the rollers are pretty worn down. I was wondering if anyone has tried resurfacing with strips of old tires for example. I looked at the price or replacements from John Deere, and "Wow!" is all I have to say.

Workmaster 55 problem. Intermittent engine dying

No rhyme or reason. Tractor starts fine, runs for a while and then just shuts off. Sometimes it restarts quickly, sometimes it has to set for a while and restarts. The fuel line is completely clear. The fuel filter has been changed. The injector lines have no air. Anyone seen this...

Workmaster 55 Tachometer and fuel gauge questions

Sometimes, especially when the temperatures have dropped in the last 24-48, the fuel gauge and tach fail to register a reading while the tractor is running. Sometimes they will suddenly begin to respond to the sending units and read correctly. Sometimes not. The problem is very sporadic. I...

Finally gave in and bought a PTO chipper

The last 18 months has seen two ice storms, one heavy snow storm and 2 heavy wind damage storms: I've always been of the mind that "I don't want to own a chipper when I can rent it for the few times I need it" mentality. The last 18 months has convinced me otherwise. For what I've...

    New Holland 489 Haybine. Opinions?

Looking at a used one, but I don't really know much about mower conditioners. Are these reliable units?

    A different shotgun question.

In my part of the world, deer can be hunted only with shotgun slug or muzzleloader. I'm more inclined to shotgun. Any favorites for the expressed purpose of firing a slug at a hunk of meat?

Briggs and Stratton Vanguard head gasket question

Can I remove the head without unbolting the rocker arm assembly? It's not that big of a deal, but if I can just undo the head bolts, and keep the head/valves and valve train all intact, it will speed things along.

Woods Mow'n Machine needs a new engine. What are my easy options?

This is a 5120 Mow'n Machine. It's pretty old. We've had it 5 years and it was bought used. It currently has a B&S Vanguard 12.5 hp engine. I don't really have time to rebuild this fall/winter and would like a drop in solution, but the 12.5 Vanguard isn't available anymore. It is horizontal...

Ha ha ha! Was texting my wife and...

The start of the story is, our tractor had fuel starvation symptoms from a prematurely plugged fuel filter (not our fuel btw). It was out in the field and I helped the repair guy (still under warranty!) do the repairs. So I was texting my wife to let her know we had it running. My phone has...

Replacement joystick boot for a FEL?

So there's a long tear in the rubber boot for the joystick. I was just going to order a new one, but the OEM boot is $40 some dollars. Seems pretty darn high. Is there a less expensive alternative, like a generic joystick rubber boot that people use?

Meeting or exceeding the maintenance recommendations.

Generally, I follow the manufacturer's recommendations on service. There are a few things that I tend to exceed recommendations (greasing pivots, coolant changes) and a couple things that I don't fully meet recommendations (checking wheel lug nuts every 10 hours, checking oil level every 10...

What do the TC, TD, TG, TK, TL, TN, TT, etc prefixes stand for?

I can't figure out the significance of the various T- designations mean. Is this fairly random or do they have a logic to them?

Looking for opinions on lesser of two evils.

Last October we bought a new Workmaster 55 with FEL and backhoe attachment. The tractor cosmetically looked (and still looks) great. It runs great. However, when it was set up, the mechanic used some wrong bolts and stripped out several bolt holes where the backhoe and FEL attach to the...

Just trying to get terminology straight here: Remote valves

When y'all talk about 2 remote valves (or 2 sets), you're talking 2 female hydraulic couplers, yes? When I read 2 sets, it makes me think of 4 hydraulic couplers, not just 2. In another thread, someone said that they'd optimally have 5 sets of remote valves. I can't imagine having 10 couplers...

    Great tractor

    It's a trap I tell you...

This fall we replaced our old Ford 1710 with a brand-spanking new NH Workmaster 55. It's a great tractor. Tremendously capable. All was good. Until... We hooked up the old 60 inch mower to mow next to fencelines and outbuildings, trees etc. The mower is narrower than the tractor so it's a...

Does digging force equate to lifting force?

By that I mean, If a backhoe has 4100 lbs of bucket digging force, would that equate to being able to curl the bucket and lifting 4100lbs of something, or would the lower dipper digging force limit that?

    Moving concrete pipe

I have 2 8 foot sections of concrete pipe coming. We're using it to prevent washout on a couple spots on the bridle path around the farm. Each section weighs slightly more than 2500 lbs. I have a Workmaster 55 with FEL and BH attachment. I also have 3PH forks. I'm trying to decide the...

Implement HP rating and new tractor question

Hey all, I'm replacing a Ford 1710 with a Workmaster 55. It has suddenly occurred to me that my rotor tiller and mower are rated for 20-40 hp but the new tractor is 47.5 hp at the PTO. My question is, can I just run them a bit off of 540 speed, and avoid stripping out gearboxes?

New Tractor coming home (in 10 days)

We decided we wanted more plowing ability and better loader capability. So, we went looking at tractors. Headed up to the NH/Kubota dealer and looked at M5100X and Workmaster 55. Then we headed over to the Massey Ferguson/Kioti dealer and looked at TK55, TK45 and a couple MF in the same HP...

Thinking about increasing HP over a 1710

Hi all, I've been an on again, off again lurker here on TBN for years. We've finally come to the realization that despite its dependability, we need a little more HP than the 1710. This was made clear in the blizzards of 09-10 when we really couldn't effectively clear the snow. Yes, the job...
