Looking for info on disc axle assemblies

Hello, I'm building a hiller and planning to use six odsmondson 18" notched discs because they are the only US-made discs I could find. They have a 1-1/8" square axle. I'm trying to locate information on how to set up the axle and bearing assemblies. For example, I'm not seeing taper...

Plow Shear Bolts are shearing on new tractor

Hello, Last year we used a 25-hp gas tractor with water-filled tires to plow virgin ground for our garden. Using a 1-bottom Leinbach Line plow, we didn't snap a single shear bolt. This year, we're using a 40-hp diesel John Deere 2040, also with water-filled tires, to plow the same ground...

    FEL mounting pattern for Ajax

Where can I find the bolt pattern or dimensions for loader mounts on JD tractors? Trying to determine if a 3rd-party loader is interchangeable between two JD tractors. EDIT: the title should say Deere, not Ajax. Thanks

2040 PTO clutch not dis-engaging fully

Hello, Cleaning up a new-to-us 2040. The PTO clutch doesn't disengage fully, making it difficult to engage an implement (and surely adding wear) as the splines half-engage even with the clutch pedal depressed. Today I planned to shorten the connecting rod between the clutch pedal and the...

    2040 PTO clutch engagement

Hello, I have a new-to-me 2040 (late 70's model). With the clutch pedal fully depressed, at times it's still very difficult to engage the PTO as there is intense vibration in the PTO lever when I try to engage it, almost as if the PTO clutch isn't fully releasing. I'll check tomorrow to see...

Forcing Scarifier deeper into the earth?

Hello, Shown here is the scarifier as far as it would drop. This earth was gardened last year and was plowed late in the fall. On firm dirt, without an attachment, the lift arms will lower to about 4 inches off the ground. Is this typical of a scarfier to not want to drop in on its own? Thanks

    Straighten 1/2" steel

Hello, This part is from a Leinbach Line plow. I am trying to straighten the arms. Thoughts? I do not currently have a shop press. I am making new brackets that bolt to this - the originals were bent, similar to this part. Thanks.

Paint color for Leinbach Line red?

Hello, I would like to repaint a Leinbach line implement, and am trying to determine the proper (or as close as possible) shade of red. Numerous Google seaches and turned up nothing. Has anyone found a good paint color for Leinbach? Thanks.

Need to straighten 1/4" steel cultivator arms

Hello, I recently purchased a used 2-row cultivator, and several of the 1/4 x 1-1/2" C-springs that hold the chisel teeth are bent. I need to straighten them. What's the best way, short of having access to a fab shop? Doubt a propane torch would be enough heat. Thanks

    2 Row Cultivator

Hello, I have been on the lookout for a 2-row cultivator. Seems that when one does seldom pop up, it's always old (so is there a newer tecnique?). Since we want one to plant on 30" centers and use the tractor to do the cultivating, I told myself that if I didn't find a 2-row cultivator by...

Best source for replacement tiller tines, etc.

Hello, I have been contemplating a PTO tiller for our garden, and it seems sometimes the used ones are in need of new tines. What is the best place to buy new tines, and other accessories - grader blade edges, etc. I'd like to price the replaceable parts before I do much more looking at used...

    Question about grinding rebar

Hello, Sorry if this is slightly off-topic, but I think it's the closest area? Today I found someone selling some scrap (straight, but has become rusty) 3/8" rebar for about $0.15/ft. I cut the 10' lengths into (3) 40" lengths to use as posts to support chicken wire around some raised beds...

Building a Boom Pole - thoughts?

Hello, Did a search but didn't see too much about this. I think a boom pole would be very useful. Yes, I have seen the $75-100 ones on craigslist. However, they are usually beat up, bent up, and often light duty. I figured that I will try to find a cheap source for metal, and by...

Building - How to buy scrap?

Hello, Does anyone here that builds their own equipment know of a way to buy scrap? Our local scrap dealer gets all kinds of goodies... I've even seen big spools of brand-new braided cable in their bins. I asked about buying scrap bars, and I'd gladly pay them a markup over what they pay. Of...

Replacement Mold Bar for grader blade

Hello, I am going tomorrow to look at a used grader blade listed on CL. No idea what the make/model is. Can't see the bottom of the mold bar in the photo (tall grass) but the seller says it works well. Do the cutter bars ever wear out? I haven't found replacements online so i am not sure if...

    Cultivator for crop rows

Hello, We grew our first garden this year, and are planning to "work smarter, not harder" next year. We're able to use a Kubota M5040 if needed. I have been looking at picking up a single-row cultivator. The reason for a single-row is simply that I see 15 of these used for every 1 used...

Trouble Connecting Scarifier to Kubota M5040

Hello, We are pretty new to tractors, and planted our first garden (pretty decent size) this year. We have permission to use a Kubota M5040, so we recently picked up a used scarifier and have cleaned it up and painted it. I have no idea as to make/model. Today we wanted to hitch it up to...
