2001 Cummins 4BT, which is the field/exciter wire?

This is the alternator on a 2001 Cummins 4BT (CPL 2857, engine family CEXL0239ABA) in a Mauldin MX13XT-01 loader/grader/ripper. Anybody know which is the field/exciter? I need to jumper it due to rodent wire damage under the cab of the machine.

AC not cold enough, compressor cycling a lot

Howdy guys, I have a 2019 XR4155 with less than 500 hours on it. The AC and coolant radiators are clean. I don't work with hay or dusty aggregates. Now that it's HOT in Texas, my AC is insufficient to work during the hot hours. It's 0930 now and I just came in after backdragging a gravel path...

Best step up from an XR4155H, without a bunch of electronic crapola?

My XR4155H is a very good tractor but I need more grunt and cab space. I just tested an MT5 but it has way too many electronic gadgets. I don't want buttons for diff, 4wd, or an electronic throttle. It has all that and more. To me it's all just more fancy crap to go north and require downtime...

Anybody running a 12v conversion on your early 8N ?

I spotted this one and it looks like a good deal: Ford 8N 12 Volt Conversion Kit, Front Mount Distributor

Anybody bought repair kits from Dan and Rachel Gingell?

The girl really seems to know her stuff so far. I watched her rebuild an 8N carb and distributor in their videos. She's not just a pretty face. Her dad obviously trained her well. I wish my sons could find girls this good mechanically. I wonder if any of y'all have purchased and installed their...

Just bought an 8N, what are first steps to getting it running well?

Won't run well since moving from 8000' altitude to 1000' here in Central Texas. In fact it won't even crank now due to dead battery. And it's still 6v, so my first step is to order up a 12v conversion kit. I'm not about to pay good money for a 6v battery. Is this the serial number? 8N 4024...

Reinforced bucket edge for LL4106 loader?

Howdy, my dealer says they can get me one from LS for $200 and change. It's bolt-on, so can be replaced easily. Has anybody installed one, which did you install, and does that seem like a good price? It's for my XR4155HC with factory LL4106 loader. It's hard to find web info on our...

    My new XR4155HC

Here's my new 55hp baby. Just pulled her home on the PJ flatbed. She went to work right away. There were a few things around here that were bugging me. A gate that wouldn't open fully. A little washout. A water bar that I overdid last year with a rented 4T ex. All fixed in 20 minutes. Back...

New to LS, looking for advice before buying

My business builds/maintains gravel driveways. I have a 21T lowboy dump trailer that can tailgate gravel at 2-5" of depth. Then if the customer wants it to last longer, I have a 3T compactor. Our soil around here is not given to deep erosion. But one of these days I will need to repair...

    Yanmar pricing, too high?

I rented and considered buying a Yanmar 4T excavator and its pricing was competitive. But finally I decided on a tractor with loader and backhoe. Now, at least here in TX, a Yanmar YT347 tractor with backhoe is priced 10 grand above a comparable Kubota MX5200. What the heck? Both are good...

    Current Kub pricing, wow

Just priced an MX5200 with backhoe and was pleasantly surprised at $42k. $8k less than a comparable Yanmar. Still waiting to get Zetor pricing, but might not be able to get a backhoe with that. I'm familiar with Zetor tractors because friends run them in Europe, love them. Is Kub on some kind...

Yanmar Tier 4i, boon or bane?

Looking at a Sakai SA33L-2 trench compactor for my business. It has a Yanmar/Isuzu 18.4 kW diesel.*SA33L-2 | Sakai America Yanmar's web site is marketing fluff. Doesn't even say if it uses EGR, DOC, SCR, DPF, or BLTPGQXYZ. But it does give an idea of how ambitious Tier 4 goals are. That's a...

Was about to buy a Case, but then I heard (this one weird trick)

The most responsive midi excavator sales guy so far in my area sells Case. He told me about how they've been in business for hundreds of years and they're American and their stuff holds up better than, say, Yanmar. That's why Yanmars cost less, he says. Then tonight I read that Case doesn't...

    Howdy, Central TX checking in

I'm going to be building a pond, fixing up roads, managing water flow around the property, and probably hiring out a little. I've decided on an excavator, about the heaviest an F-350 dually can tow in case I need to move it. So I joined this forum to ask a few questions. I've run a lot of 3-5t...
