If you are in the market for a new or "gently used" tractor, what are some things to look for to make sure the used tractor isn't likely to turn out to be a lemon?

... what do you like LEAST about your tractor? I'm looking at getting a CUT or SCUT and want to look at the good and the bad, so I can make the best decision I can. It's easy to list the good things, but what would you change if you could?

but a thread about specific brands. As in, what specific brands are known to be the best choices for a small homeowner uses? Mowing, tilling, landscaping. Are any known to be hard to do your own routine maintenance on? Any known to have more trouble than others?

and not the belly-mounted mower? What are the benefits to going with the rear-mounted ones? some people seem to choose the rear mounts ...just wondering why?

What are some things a person new to smaller tractors might not even think about being able to do? Some things beyond the obvious stuff?

I'm thinking turf tires would be good for a small tractor that will mostly mow grass, do some landscaping/loader work, tilling a garden. Will not be going into the woods or doing heavy farming work. Pretty sure big farming tires wouldn't be good, or the r-4?

..what are they? What are the attachments you feel you can't live without? Or after you finally bought it, wished you had done it years ago?

Does anyone regret their backhoe purchase? Maybe found out you don't use it nearly as much as you thought. Are they hard to use? Hard to move on/off when you want to use another attachment?

Joined up looking for information on buying a tractor...mostly for mowing, light bushhogging, and small acreage upkeep. Never owned a tractor, going to snoop around for ideas and advice. Thanks!
