    Std. or HD pallet forks?

Personally - I would get nothing but the HD set - I had a LD set but quickly realised the need for the HD set - you will never exceed them that way - the fault with the LD set was with the horizontal upper mount bar, weight of wood box filed bent the bar - does not even come close now that I...

    New to quick hitches

I have been utilizing pat's easy hitch - luv them, could less about having to hook the top link, gotta get in there and connect the PTO anyway - these adapters just make it so simple to get the lower pins connected - the most inconvenient aspect could be the need to "on occasion only) I have to...

    UTV Winch?

Your winch should be rated double to what your typical load would be - ie, if pulling your tractor is expected to be the heaviest load, take double the weight of your tractor for your winch rating. This is to ensure you have the margin of coverage if mired - other than this approach, you will...

    Is 25hp enough?

I run a 60 inch flail on my T1510 (27 PTO HP, if I recall correctly, and 30 Eng HP - my neighbor has a 1025 (don't remember the specs right off, but definitely smaller than what I am running - the 1025 runs it like a dream, and this is trail grooming trails that were first cut over the last 2...

    wood oil based stain/preservatives?

I tried a small amount - approx 1/2 cup of the timber oil, mixed it with 1/2 cup diesel - did not mix well at all - used it at original strength - yes indeed, I do realise used oil is a carcinogen - actually been exposed to it for years as a mechanic, bare hands my whole life - even with cuts -...

    wood oil based stain/preservatives?

I have just used the Timber Oil again, this time on seasoned PT wood - by seasoned, must be at least 5 yrs old - absolutely luved the application of it - also did a few tool handles, I certainly like better than the diesel and eng oil mixture I mentioned

    wood oil based stain/preservatives?

Australian Timber Oil did not hold up well for me however I think it was simply because the PT lumber hadn't seasoned enough - going to be using again on well seasoned lumber (3 yrs ish) - have anyone ever mixed one of these oil based treatment with diesel oil - I have used diesel oil mixed with...

cannot remove PTO SHAFT FROM TRACTOR — RESOLVED!!!

in the end, double check the length of the shaft, it almost sounds as though it might be too long and get additional force applied horizontally potentially causing a binding in the splines and/or lock ring - most will stick to a degree, but typically come loose with a bit of giggling.

    Snow plow on FEL

Built one last year for my neighbor - he luvs it and it is his primary snow removal device - minimal use of his blower except for paths thru the woods and across the field - it works very well. Just started with making a quick attach bracket and kept going from there - used an old p/u truck plow...

    L4400 4x4 New Tires W Water

Number one - with the tire air valve to the top, filling with the liquid is supposed to be stopped when the fluid spits out when releasing the pressure buildup during the fill process - my guess is that the fill was continued after this point and stopped when pump could not overcome the pressure...

I run it on a NH T1510 - I do not find it to be excessively heavy - but definitely heavy built - I can lift as much as my ballast weight allows me to

    Broke 2 Oil filter wrenches

The biggest culprit that causes filter to "cook" onto the mount is the use of "used" oil on the gasket rather than using new oil, seconded by excessive overtightening during installation. Most filters call for up to 3/4 of a turn after the gasket ring makes contact. Seen this way too many times!!!

Grapple Sway my grapple decision. Homestead/CTA

https://hlaattachments.com/item.php?prod=291 - this is the one I use for all of those purpose you mentioned with the only caveat is that once chunked and laying in a pile, a bucket is better to pick it up, as long as it aint chunked then it is good for the firewood

    Block Heaters 24/7

35 plus yrs as a mechanic - seen a ton of "heater" failures, the largest cause of failure was corrosion because of poor anti-freeze mixture ratio - that said, the inline circulating coolant heater were worse. As for usage, you only ever see a fail (as a user) while it is in use. It may seem to...

    Cleaning Up Substantial Yard Debris

For mine I used the root rake grapple on the loader and back dragged to form piles I could 1. grapple out, or 2. bucket out - I then sorted out the metal for scrap - anything burnable goes to a burn site (fire going or burn later doesn't make any difference) the rest of the crap goes to bulk...

    Snow boots

I used to think so highly of those mukluks - wore them every winter for 35 yrs - had to find something to replace them, the Baffin Constructor I mentioned earlier in this thread, far surpasses them - just going into my third winter of use!!!

Rim guard or not? Why a ballast box instead of boxblade?

I added liquid (W/S/W Fluid -40C rated) this past year as I had encountered a few rather tippy situations even though I had a Flail mower on the 3 pt. The only issue I have with the added weight is yes, if I am operating on softer soil (pretty hard to avoid this year due to rain) it does tend to...

I used to wear Sorel brand boots - they no longer cut it for my feet - even in minus 20 weather, if I am not wearing my Baffin pac boot, my feet absolutely freeze - Baffin pac boot is the onlt boot that has ever provided this level of comfort - and they are safety boots to boot (no pun meant...

Building 55' Bridge Across Creek - Utility Poles

Being as how it green wood, it really ought to dry for a couple years for any level of curing - but that is done under a cover - and that is for when one is going to use the wood in a furniture type project. A good hardwood like white oak would be okay to leave for the first year at least -...

I have a bad feeling about this

Alrighty - see if I get this right - as long as the pic remains, then I did ok I guess. The manifold is just a garden hose bib manifold, the pressure gauge is garden hose connection...

    Rototillers for beginners

I understand that if your area of work has lots of rock and/or root, it might be best to use a forward rotation tiller as it will throw the debris out the back making for less entanglement issues - what is your experience with that respect?

    Loading issues on Dump Trailer

The load is your responsibility (legal stand-point) on the highways/roadways - NOT the quarry operator so it is IMPERATIVE that you tell the loader operator where to load it!!! Marking the side rails for load area/no load area will go a long ways to helping ensure an evenly loaded trailer, you...

    Kubota RTV-X1140 disappointing performance

How long should I let new ground settle before putting in posts on piers?

Instead of staring all over from scratch - I would ask this - why not use screw piles rather than cement piers - around here setting in a screw pile cost 200 bucks (on average) per pile. Is there a strong reason to not use them - they do go in as deep as needed to be - starting length is 7 foot...

    Washout-proofing a ditch

How do you keep the trailer backup battery charged. (or do you)

Personally - the battery is never an issue unless it will not take a charge because of an internal short etc - then it gets replaced - for regular use, once a year even, the battery will charge from the vehicle running (as long as you wired it to a source thru the 7 pin connector) and typically...

Building 55' Bridge Across Creek - Utility Poles
