MANY THANKS to Cen3035 !!!
I finally got the ATV CV joint boot through Walmart and it is *-SO FRIGGIN' PERFECT-* that I don't really "NEED" any securing straps or hose clamps.
Worked with it for a couple of hours the last couple of days and it stays in place nicely, starting to forget that...
Yeah, it is more likely to appear in someone's Hobby profile than their "day job" skills (-:
As I said, dirt bikers are a likely bunch.
They crack engine and gear cases when they go a' rock hopping.
Bash plates only do so much )-;
A thought on the cast iron brazing question.
Such skills DO still exist (-:
I would try asking the local "dirt bike community".
A good start would be the local motorcycle shop, they may be able to do it if their clientele has a strong off road contingent, or they may have a small ads board.
I doubt that, since it is essentially a "bleed off" of returning fluid.
No matter, it is WAY too stupidly complex and the adjustment is way too finicky.
See JD (a.k.a. Kukje & Humpolec contract builders) for simpler, more robust and more reliable solution - - hint/clue parallelogram arms.
The manual suggests a special tool (of course) that clamps to the pallet forks.
Basically it is a pendulum and you make adjustments by leveling manually at fully down, then raising to fully up and messing with the proportioning valve until there is a 4 degree or less change. Similarly for the...
BLAHH !!!
Walmart's 3rd party vendor (All Balls) sent the wrong parts.
Hopefully I get the right part TODAY !
BTW, I went to ridiculous lengths to measure the squarish control box with rounded corners to get its circumference.
Came out scary close to the spec on the ATV CV Joint boot.
OK, so I broke down and ordered the ATV CV joint boot - from WALMART of all places about $18 with tax.
I'll have it in a couple of days.
Hope to report back favorably.
That looks REALLY NICE !
I hadn't considered the possibility of a "boot" that is nominally round at each end being stretched over a nominally "square" joystick box.
(I must have blonde roots - a Duhh moment indeed).
Hahh, I started this thread over 4 years ago.
OK, so the goop is kinda holding up ....kinda.
An aside - I have been building 3D printers for some time now, maybe 8 years, so I get all sorts of flyers from suppliers. One that caught my eye last week was one from Syraya Tech touting their...
Bahh, humbug !
It turns out that I suffered a "repair person induced failure", i.e. I screwed up and chased my own tail for a while.
In retrospect I had put the 4-way flashers on as a quick check to see if there was any power getting to the fuse block - they weren't working at that time, but I...
Kinda ODD !
The fuse was physically BROKEN, i.e. a whole blade was missing.
Here's the odd part; After much dismantling to get a good view of the fuse's socket I determined that there were no bits of fuse blade in there.
HOWEVER ! Putting a new fuse in there led to some random clicking -...
Almost by happenstance I got into the fuse block. I think there was something in my head about a shutdown relay.... maybe, maybe not.
Anyway, the CURRENT item being fixed is a broken off fuse blade - it will be HARD to get the bit(s) out given that the loader is on until this is fixed and I...
I can "follow it" but it would help a little bit if I knew in advance where I am hoping to find it.
i.e. it could go to the fuse block first or to the starter solenoid. or to somewhere else - - I jest but only slightly, the damned tractor is kinda deep in the woods right now
so squirming around...
Thanks,
Yep I get that in any circuit the highest resistance has the highest voltage drop across it (-:
Back to it today and HOPING for a breakthrough.
OK, so I'm not exactly NEW to this problem on various junk cars I and my off spring have had over the decades, but I need SPECIFICS on the Kukje power wiring.
This is a 42 HP Large frame machine from 2005/06.
It is "as if" I have a poor battery connection or a weak battery.
i.e. sometimes it...
No updates in two months ?
I'll just add that mine blew a SECOND hose last week and it was an "inner" one.
Fortunately it was on the left side, so although it was an "inner" it was next to the one that I had replaced a year or two ago, so getting the "outer" one removed for access was easy...
I never had a REAL problem with the '03 duramax, but of course that was pre def.
At that time folk were grousing about (somehow) filling up with summer blend in the Carolinas and (same day) leaving it overnight in the frozen north of Maine. Well, smart Alec, top up with local seasonal blend...
Are there any other symptoms ?
Is it dropping oil ?
On soil you may not notice it, but if you peek underneath while someone turns the wheel left you might get a clue.
From memory mine turned left but not right and that was the hose that runs from the leftmost port on the steering box forward to...
My 2003 duramax had a couple of settings on the DIC (driver information center) for (as I recall) private and business.
I used one for towing and one for without trailer.
With a 40 ft horse trailer MOST drivers will both accelerate and decelerate gently (if they have any consideration for the...
"Performance" issues while towing HEAVY ?
Me sees cognitive dissonance (-:
Just take it easy, so you lose a few seconds on the long steep grades - so what ?
Unless you are doing 3 or 4 hundred mile trips you won't notice the difference to total journey time.
Depends too on what you have for front tires.
Rear ballast (to some extent) unloads the front tires.
I prefer to have a useful implement on the back, rather than mere weight.
My guess is a hose.
Now to the tough part; The steering BOX (for want of a better term) is mounted at the bottom of the steering column and the 4 hoses that are threaded into it are VERY CLOSE to each other, i.e. using a flare nut wrench to either of the outer two is hard enough.
To the inner...
One thing that I forgot to mention about horse racing (probably dog racing too) is that the "ODDS" are set by "collective wisdom" - much like stock market prices.
The "collective wisdom" thinks that a particular horse is most likely to win, so it becomes favorite and the starting price drops...
Without writing CHAPTERS on it I'll offer a few notes.
Risk/reward ratios apply, i.e. for high rewards expect high risk.
Example 1) Lotteries have BIG reward, low probability of winning, your $1 , $5 or $10 ticket is a near certain complete loss.
Example 2) Coin flip, head/tails usually...
I have been trying to "adjust" one on a M7060 tractor with LA1184 loader.
According to the manual it is factory set for the loader when the boom lift cylinders are pinned to the max height position, when you change to the maximum load position it needs re-adjustment.
This tractor was delivered...
Ooops, my bad.
I've been looking at fwd CARS too much recently and I seem to associate mention of tie rod ends with the OUTER end.
While I'm here and now that I've looked CLOSER at the pics, my comment on newer type tie rods should be ignored - that was on the large frame models.
That looks more like a constant velocity joint separation than a tie rod end failure - BICBW.
From memory ...(I'm old) there was an update/upgrade to tie rods some 15 or so years ago.
SOME old parts may still be available from SOME dealers/distributors, i.e. NOS (new, old stock).
If you have to...
I found this yesterday, it seems pretty complete;

12 volts at the starter WHEN CRANKING would be great, but if it is that much when TRYING to crank then it sounds like WAY TOO MUCH (-:
That is a silly way of saying that the starter isn't pulling much current, possibly because of high resistance somewhere, e.g. a poor connection in the ground...
OK, I think the owner's/operator's manual should be on its way to errrr,,,, the last four of you who requested it.
The model names may or may not match up with what folk have, but generally ...
a) There is the division between the large frame model and the small frame models.
b) The division...
They are likely the same - given that Kukje has contract built JD cat 1 tractors ( & probably still does).
The paint, its all in the paint - green and yellow makes such a BIG difference (-:
I don't see the need.
I am either ripping (with the teeth down) or levelling/smoothing.
If my top link is set right I don't need any down pressure (weight).
Lead is about the most dense material that is generally available and perhaps affordable.
Lead shot used to be about $12 per 25 lb bag...
A system that uses several inputs - AS WELL AS ITS OWN MEMORY - could/would work better than any single input system such as GPS.
Given that MOST of our driving is relatively local and roads don't move much in the short term, the road will typically be where it was the last time the vehicle...
MOST of the green/yellow tractors below about 80HP are contract built in South Korea.
Those colors CO$T a lot, so if you can find the non-JD eqivalent tractor (i.e. different paint job) then the answer is likely "Yes and for a lot less"
Yes, no and maybe (or undetermined).
Once coded "it is what it is" and can be fixed/patched, etc. if/when bugs arise - once fixed ...well, I know too much about regression failures in code, so lets leave that aside for now.
The problem with humans is that every one of them learns by their own...
I'll take on your second opinion first - errr, Robocop ? (-:
ONE of the BIG problems I have with many car drivers is their unwillingness and/or inability to stop before the stop line.
They want to stop ON the cross walk - well, maybe there aren't any pedestrians on it right now, but the...
Unable to process without a meaningful definition of "miniscule".
There are enough of them about to rile up 57 pages of posts about (semi)autonomous vehicles here.
I have driven one, also put it into auto pilot mode, it drives better than I do - - and I have more decades of "experience" than I...
Yep, human drivers only kill about 90 humans per day (annual average) - - Tesla has a count somewhere in the single digits (several years) and having the back-up human watching videos is a bad strategy.
Fun trick with "boulders too big to dig" is to put pallet forks on.
Set to about half the width of the rock, set the forks verical and push 'em in just in front of the rock - down presure if you need it, curl/dump a few times to settle it in.
You may only be able to "pop" it - actual removal may...
OK, this time it wasn't ME.
We have a problem from time to time with "finding the holes" between the bottom and top boards
of the pallet.
If we come in low it can wreck a pallet or shove it around, rarely expensive,
If we come in with the forks high and the pallet is loaded the consequences...
We want them farther out, a LOT farther out.
It happens to be a Kubota and our ASSUMPTION is that the wheels are set to minimum spacing for reasons of shipping.
OK, so we could have the dealer do it, but that would be expensive.
We could get it there, but once the tires are OUT it would be too...
OK, so one of my side panels flops around and last night I decided to fix it.
That didn't work out and for the first time - IN THIRTEEN YEARS ! - I lost 1/2 of a side panel spring clip.

After a dozen or so years the rubber boot around the joy stick handle has split and generally dried out.
This is the square base bellows type one.

I thought I knew this (a decade ago).
Who is the builder of the hydraulics for the loader on my ~2005/2006 Century Humpolec loader ?
I don't know if I need a valve re-build, replacement, or simple cable adjustment ...
I have lost the float function - and that is SO valuable for back dragging...
This may seem DUMB and ,,,OK, so it is dumb.
I can't remember which way to turn the crank to adjust an implement for level.
It has been SO LONG since I moved it that it seems bound tight and I don't want to force it.
Right now it is close to level, so probably near the middle of its adjustment...
I'm trying to help someone with lift problems and to do that
a) I need the spec for hydraulic pressure.
b) I need to know where to measure that and what gauge fittings are needed.
c) If it is below spec I'll need to know where the relief valve is - assuming that to be the problem.
DISCLAIMER...
I bought the Search Results for trailer mover at Tractor Supply Co. one for $200 (minus a few pennies) a couple of days ago.
I have a Century C42 with the Humpolec HL loader - that wouldn't lift my goose neck horse trailer off its landing gear.
I know, I know, doing that unsecured in the bucket...
I know we had a thread on this a dozen years or so ago, but I can't find it.
Anyway, did anyone ever figure out what that connector is, i.e. whether it has a "standards" number, probably a Euro standard ?
Possibly an auto industry standard, again maybe a Euro auto parts industry standard ?
I...
OK, so if ANYONE ELSE asked about this I would just say "DON'T"
That said, I am running out of lift capacity on my C50-HL.
Supposedly it has 2540 lbs capacity and given that I just had a 40 cu ft trunk of sappy sappy pine on it (plus the grapple) I think it is working as designed and built...

A few years ago (maybe 6 or 7) I bought a little tag along equipment trailer for my smallest tractor.

Not sure of the exact vocabulary, but we have a BobCat 843 with loader pin problems.

Here's something to consider.
Front end loader rule is to carry as low as possible, for stability.
Low enough to see OVER it not high enough to see UNDER it (-:
There is a problem with that, low buckets don't hold much.
Howeverrrrrr, there is a temptation;
If the pile is big enough you can...

Hi,
I already posted in Zetor/Century/Branson forum here;
http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/zetor-century-branson/273107-c50-50hl-loaders.html
but thought I would open it up as a general loader/hydraulics/joystick float question.
I guess my question at this point is; "Where does the...
I have a 50HL {Humpolec} loader and some time ago it lost the float detent.
That is to say I can float the bucket, but the joysick won't lock in the forward position, so I have to lean on it continuously.
I am looking for an adjustment procedure - something that takes account of wear.
This...
How I got to here and why.... lets skip that for now.
What I have is a trailer with hydraulic brakes on it.
What I want/need is a parking brake.
Ok, I know about wheel chocks, but those don't qualify as a "Parking Brake".
So, given that I don't have drums with backing plates that have the...
OK, this may be crazy, but I'm not the craziest person on this planet, so I figure if I can think of doing it someone else has already tried.

I have a Harley Rake, so....
We were wondering if it would be "practical" to...
That is the expen$ive way to go.
The skid steer attachments on the front works, the 3 pt attachments on the front is kinda handy when the back is occupied, say with a back-hoe that is a minor hassle to change out.
I don't think I've ever needed two ss attachments on the same tractor at the same...
I always TRY to avoid travel when there is inclement weather, ESPECIALLY with a trailer, but Murphy and his Laws have weird ways of beating me.
So, that said; What do you carry for snow chains ? (assuming you HAVE snow chains).
Do you chain up all 4 on the truck ?
Just drive wheels ?
Just...
This has probably been addressed before, but I'm probably not the only one to have noticed that trailers used for hauling tractors often get a couple of the boards really beaten up, resulting in sag.
OK, leaving aside "you get what you pay for" and "quality ain't what it used to was"...

They don't have one listed on their web site, but I have an "opportunity" to obtain one.

It is JD green, what is left of the paint.
It looks very similar to the 661EMJD model shown in their JD1600 series manual, but it is definitely a FRONT mount.
The model...
I don't have one, but have been thinking about what might happen if/when a Harley (or similar) rake encounters rocks, ledge, roots, etc.
I doubt that those carbide tips would chew through BIG rocks, i.e. just shave the top off to make them level with the rest of the ground and I don't think they...
There may be other alternatives, but these were the ones that came up in conversation today.
I guess I've known for a while that SOME folk believe quite passionately that nuts and bolts should be torqued "clean and dry", while others believe just as passionately that a dab of grease allows about...
Good grief; I just looked up the specs.
I had NO IDEA it was only 3700 lbs as an open tractor.
{and I though K_word tractors were "lightweight" (-: }
I would guess another 1400/1500 lbs for a loader with bucket and maybe 1200 if you had loaded R4s on it - just guesses.
So I'm guessing you have...
Depends;
Never mind the engine HP, what does it WEIGH ?, what tires are on it ? are they loaded ?
and, what do you plan to DO with a box blade ?, i.e. move soil (clay, sand, loam, etc) or gravel ?
I have been looking at a few and would like a little help from folk who already have them.
What symptoms should I be looking for as signs that the current owner is trying to dump it rather than repair it ?
I am thinking of the "not worth fixing, put it up on Craig's list for $xxxx and see what...

Just browsing through the latest ASC flyer got me thinking about disk plows (again).
Anyone build one for say a 30, 40 or 50 HP tractor from the 24 & up inch disks ?

We see a lot of postings suggesting/recommending various tractor brands and often some of the justification is the engine's manufacturer, e.g. Yanmar, Mitsubishi, Cummins, etc.

As I understand it;
Position and draft control are implemented via a few linkages, e.g. put the lever to a particular position to open the valve that lifts the 3pt.
That lever operates a linkage to the piston that operates the rock shaft, the rock shaft operates another link and when the rock...
Has anyone here used this ?
How well does it work ?
For those who don't know what I'm talking about (not that I do) it is somewhat like draft control, but for a tiller.
It takes it's control signal from the tiller's rear plate (door, flap) via a cable (inner wire and outer casing, like a...
Somewhen a long time ago I saw some sort of an "adapter" that a tag-along (bumper-pull) trailer could be hooked to and become a gooseneck.

What are the generally used fittings for steel lines ?
In particular, is there a general standard and is it the same as is used for automotive brake lines ?
It would be SO HANDY if I could just buy off the shelf brake line at my local NAPA store in standard lengths and bend it to fit.

Anyone made their own ?
I was thinking of bending up some 5/8 or 3/4 re-bar - if I could get the pattern.
Angles probably matter and at a guess there are at least two planes in which the bends are made - and those have to be at the right angle to each other too.

Here comes fall (autumn), the end of the mowing season.
Are there seasonal "clearance sales" on mowers, say after labor day ?
I have the same question on tillers, but suspect that would come much later, when everyone has turned their residue under for the winter.
