How far is too far for driving tractor on the road?

Will take forever and the suspension on these is not suited for long highway drives -- I've had my JD 410E on the Highway for a few miles and after "bouncing" around, decided never again.

EV owners of today and tomorrow

Wife has two Hybrids -- 2022 Corolla and 2013 Prius V -- both are LIFETIME vehicles, incredible reliability. The Corolla is rated at 52/53, but it consistently delivers over 62mpg - I tuned it using TechStream (I was a Computer Scientist during my earlier career). Prius is around 40-45mpg, but...

    Best and worst chainsaw?

I have Husqvarna (435/41cc- originally 16", now 18" and 455 Ranch/55cc) and Stihl (two 066s, two 044s, 038, MS660 and MS440). I'm in the process of rebuilding the older Stihl 066s and 044s -- new seals on crankshaft (both sides), carb rebuilds, new shock mounts and the only downside is special...

JD 410E Backhoe Loader Valve Rebuild

Thank you sir ! And man do I miss Texas -- lived in Del Rio (Ciuda Acuna across the border use to be a great little town to visit -- no longer), San Antonio, Bastrop (beautiful hill country), Wichita Falls (unfortunately my old home there was flattened down to the concrete foundation blocks...

JD 410E Backhoe Loader Valve Rebuild

Sir - I've power washed it a couple of time and it has multiple leaks - most appear to be "internal". John Deere makes absolutely superb equipment (I own Orange and Green mainly - seen way too many problems with Chinese junk) but as we all know hydraulics need attention fairly regularly...

JD 410E Backhoe Loader Valve Rebuild

Thank you kindly -- I think there are orings and a range of seals inside those spool valves, but I haven't disassembled to investigate. I have rebuilt standalone hydraulic cylinders (loads of fun getting old stuck gland nuts off) but this one probably needs to go on a test jig / stand after...

JD 410E Backhoe Loader Valve Rebuild

Have a 1999 JD410E Backhoe that is now leaking badly from its Loader / Spooler Valve --it controls a four-way bucket and has been a real dependable workhorse. I'm in the middle of harvest and can't get to it until later -- can someone recommend a rebuilder somewhere in the Richmond - VA Beach -...

    Hose Field Repair Hydraulic Fittings

Working on an International Bucket Truck w/Altec boom......one of the lines at the operator station bucket has broken and someone recommended a "hose field repair hydraulic fitting"..........I have a few, but have never used. I realize they're generally considered "non permanent" repairs, but...

Is 4 year old diesel fuel any good?

I've seen diesel fuel last much longer than four years ---- case in point is my 1966 JD 2510 which runs just fine on 10 yr old plus diesel (off road).........have many other pieces of equipment that don't get used much and I simply add Sta-bil --- JD 410E backhoe has diesel in it that's about 5...

    John Deere Green Engine Paint

Thank you kindly -- was going to have my automotive paint supplier Sherwin Williams mix up some based on the color, but really don't trust the fact most paints don't like high engine heat. The original JD greens on my green tractor engines are doing absolutely great -- two are 10 plus years old...

    John Deere Green Engine Paint

Looking for a source for high temperature JD Green engine paint for restorations. The JD Factory green engine paints seem to be holding up quite well, but I'm not sure if the garden variety after market JD Greens from Rustoleum, Ace, etc are up to the temperature task.

    5ft JBar land plane

I think you're on the edge -- I pull a Kubota land leveler with my Kubota BX2680 (26 hp) and that's close to its limit..

    Hydraulic Caps/Plugs for JD Backhoes

Getting ready to rebuild the loader valve in my 1999 JD 410E Backhoe (what a great machine) and looking for a good hydraulic "plugs/caps" kit to keep hydraulic oil from going everwhere (there are a bunch of lines going into the loader valve) -- anyone have any recommendations ?

Best lawn mower in $2-4,000 range?

Have rebuilt the Kohler cast iron engine in the 1984 JD 318 mower only one time and it's good for another 39 plus years.........very cheap to keep, but only 48" cut (great for areas where my big stuff can't get in). Nice little front snow blower option too.......I have maybe $2000 in it...

    New 2021 Kubota BX2380 w/MMM & FEL- first impressions and any problems/issues....

BX2680 w/mid mount 60" mower (380 hrs) -- belt/pulley mid mount cover on one side is poorly designed, poor fitment, rides down on the pulley, then cuts thru/ melts the cover. I've also replaced the right rear axle seal (snap ring pliers req'd to access) THREE TIMES as it has a tendency to...

Yes and have noticed same at auto dealer lots --- serves the gougers right. Let them get stuck with inventory.

    Kerosene in kubota zd21

Quite a few of the "old timers" will tell you it's "ok" to run kerosene in tractors for a short period of time -- my view is it lacks diesel fuel's lubricity and will take out most injectors in no time flat.

New tractor - preventing rust in a coastal environment

You'll never stop / prevent all rust, no matter how hard you try. I've sandblasted till the cows came home and still can't get it all ---have adopted a new approach --- if it happens encapsulate it with any number of avail "converter" products (e.g. Reformer, KuRust, Loctite etc), then follow...

Reaming out holes in thick steel?

I had a service tech (with a mag drill, Hougen bits) do something similar. I'd luv having that setup (pretty darn expensive) --- not in my budget presently.

    Hydraulic Test Kits -- Thoughts?

Was an overall flow problem (GPM)----- system was running at about 40% spec and the main pump was worn out. Darn handy tools -- saves a service call / trip to the dealer.

Backhoe How do you dig a trench with a CUT backhoe?

I straddle my 99' JD 410E Backhoe (weighs about 17K with thumb, other stuff) over the path to cut, drive fwd, makes ditches, even cuts thru hard pack in relatively no time flat. Machine will likely outlive most of us (like my 66 JD 2510)

    Lift Arm Controls... Draft Adjustment?

My draft controls are ON/OFF w/different settings which lock. VERY useful when using a box blade for example (mine weighs over 1000 lbs and would be all over the place otherwise).

    Hydraulic Test Kits -- Thoughts?

Ok -- did an upgrade ($700 total) and have pretty much everything I need in a complete hydraulics test kit: Hedland 0-50GPM Flow Meter Adapters Control Valve w/PSI Gauge Just used on a 5065E -- isolated the problem in one minute (after spending 30 minutes hooking up the adapters/test ports)...

    Switching Oil to 0W-40

Note sure about the John Deere Plus 50 II - so called 500-hr change interval, but the manuals also say change the oil annually. I've been using CK-4 Costco Diesel in all my equipment (off road (yellow, red and green) and on road -- Powerstroke and Cummins diesels) and not a single problem anywhere.

    Hydraulic Test Kits -- Thoughts?

Looking for ideas --- I see a number of technicians using the QuadriGages (low, medium, high gauges mounted on a "tree"), also sourced through HydraCheck and many "low cost" hydraulic test kits on the market. I have an old JD flowmeter, would like a general hydraulic test kit for checking main...

    Kubota BX2680 5-Hr Service SHOCKER

Ok folks, this you won't believe. Had my son, who is a Master Diesel Tech @ a local Ford dealer do the FIRST 50-hr service on one of my smaller tractors. Pictures of the trans/hydraulic strainer tell the horrible story and this is the CRAP the Kubota Factory is leaving in their machines. My...

Recommendations please on attachments to dress up 10 acres of bermuda, tall fescue

On the farm I have ten acres of grass, lawns to maintain and normally cut these with my 3pt 84" groomer and zero turn 60" mowers (the latter with a "vac" pickup) , but haven't quite gotten control of (a) dressing high / low spots (b) raking up stones, limbs, branches, etc. I've tried my 7'...

    John Deere Quality Control Problems

I have owned green tractors for decades (starting with my 1966 JD 2510) and have noticed quality failing badly in the newer machines, notably those being manufactured in India -- case in point: 5055E and 5075 tractors experiencing multiple "assembly line" issues --- seat belts hanging/binding...
