Tire Selection  15.5-38 tires for my Ford 5000

Hello TBN, I'm looking for future replacements for the 5000 I recently bought. Current tires are Goodyear dyna torque 2's. Short lug on them is basically gone, long lug looks fine. How does that work? I'll probably keep them through this hating season as long as they don't fail. I've been...

Buying Advice  NH 492 vs NH 1465 mowers

Hello TBN. I'm looking into getting a new to me mower to replace my aging NH 477, keeping it as a backup. A dealer near me has a 492 and a 1465 for sale at similar pricing, $4750 for the 492, $5500 for the 1465. The pictures of both machines make them out to both be in pretty good shape. I plan...

Connection to starter solenoid on Ford 5000 Diesel

Opted to change out the whole starter due to issues with starting, expedited by a couple days ago when the tractor wouldn't turn over. Engine barely attempted turning and then stopped altogether with just noise from the starter. Ordered a starter from Steiner and can't quite figure out how to...

Ford 5000 pinging sound when PTO engaged

Hello TBN, As per title, when I engage the PTO of my 5000 (low idle ~1000-1200, nothing attached) I can hear a repetitive pinging coming from the rear axle housing. It sounds as if it's being tapped with a hammer. Same set of pings repeating a few seconds apart. Increasing engine speed seems to...

    3-Point Hitch  Ford 5000 3pt lift height

Hello TBN, The 3 pt on my Ford 5000 maxes out at around 30" in height measured at the center of the rear link ball from the floor. Lowest measurement is around 6.5" when the lever is lowered to the stop. It seems like it should have a fair bit more travel upwards to me.

    Identifying levers found in barn

I've found these in the barn and I'm trying to figure out what they may have gone to. My thought would be either a ground driven manure spreader or perhaps some seeder.

    Rounded off drain plug

Hello TBN, Trying to change the fluids in my Ford 960 and ended up rounding off the head of the transmission drain plug. Haven't tried channel locks yet but I don't think it'll help. Beyond removing the plug, what could I use to replace it? Would a short bolt work? Looked through messicks and...

    Rusted lift arm ball

Hello TBN, on my little International 244, the lift arm balls have been rusted in place. One moves somewhat freely, but the other is seized. I have both stuck in a small bucket of PB blaster to soak, however so far it hasn't helped. They've been soaking overnight. Thoughts? I'll pop pictures up...

    Hay selling etiquette

Not sure where best to put this but it involves hay so this seems to fit. Now following the 'if it seems wrong it probably is' rule, the following seems plain wrong to me. In the time I've had my hay posted for sale, I've had two offers to buy, both of them requesting that I forward funds sent...

    International 244 Rims

Hello TBN, I've got an International 244 tractor that has 16" rims on the rear and 10" on the front. As far as I can tell from the manual, this tractor either should, or had the option for 24" on the back and 15" on the front, going by the tire sizes listed. I've been searching around for rims...

    New Holland 477

Hello TBN, while working on my grandfather's haybine, I noticed the header sits a bit slanted. Looking for the problem I noticed the tires are different sizes, outside tire is roughly an inch or two larger in diameter. I don't have the sizes of each offhand as I noticed shortly before I had to...

Ford 900 3 pt lift capacity

Hello TBN, as per the title, I'm wondering if any members here that may own or used to own a Ford 900 series tractor could input on the lift capability of the 3 point hitch. Tractordata.com lists 1250lbs, but no information as to whether that's at the link end or farther from. I've misplaced my...

Other drills for sale from the same place are...

Hello TBN, as stated in the title I'm looking for recommendations on equipment for a Ford 950 tractor. 40 HP, 3280-6475 lbs listed on tractordata, rear tires are 13.(4? 8? Not quite sure, it's at grandparents place. Most likely won't be out till the weekend to check for sure) instead of the...

    Ford 950 3pt hitch problems

Hello TBN, Question I have is this: On our tractor, a Ford 950, the 3 pt hitch arms don't move with a full range of motion. The arms are only affected when the lift/drop lever (for lack of a better term) is in the top third/fourth of it's traverse. Top lifts the arms (although I don't believe...
