How to mount a posthole digger

I have thought about using the rops and a come-along. But I found a few utube videos and learned a few tricks that worked for me with a little modification. One guy had a simple pair of props that worked well. My auger is a bit heavier than many, but i was able to set it up without too much...

How to mount a posthole digger

I have a rather strange request. I need some ideas for how I can mount a posthole digger on my 3 point. Easy peasy normally. I have always had my digger dangling from a pulley in the rafters. But now I need to haul digger, mower, and tractor to a far-away remote location where there are no...

    Trailer JD 3039R

Those bolt on tie downs might be just the ticket. I was told by the trailer dealer that 4 chains was the law, but not enforced on the small stuff hauled by civilians.

    Trailer JD 3039R

I was just looking at the weight bar. It's about 1 3/8 square steel. I could loop the chain over that, but it could slide sideways a bit. Thinking about that one some more though. There is a way to do this.

    Trailer JD 3039R

I have at least 2 options. First, drive on forwards and put the bucket over the rail on the tongue. Second drive on backwards with the mower suspended from the FEL. The latter, I am 90% certain will work. Winter Deere. You are certainly right about the need for tiedown loops in the front...

    Trailer JD 3039R

dieselscout, Your rig must be quite a bit longer than my 16 ft long outfit is. I put it on the trailer and discovered that I have more room than I expected. When I want to travel with mower, I may put that under the bucket and lift it into the trailer with the FEL while backing up the ramp...

RjCorazza and WinterDeere, thanks for the tips on the bathroom scale method. I'm ashamed that I did not think of it myself. A little 7th grade geometry and Intro Physics is pretty straight forward. These forums are really a heck of a resource. I can run a chain through a shackle on the...

    Trailer JD 3039R

I don't think a bathroom scale will reach the 500+ lbs I think I need to measure. But as I was looking at what @alexpops suggested, I realized that getting a reading will take a bit of finness. Probably some lumber or maybe a bottle jack.

    Trailer JD 3039R

Well, I now have an 18 ft trailer. With 10000# axels, I'm well clear of my total capacity but hardly light with 5000# of payload. I tried balancing the tractor on it, and it seems that with the counterbalance on the back and grapple on the front, I can set it up facing forwards or back...

    Trailer JD 3039R

My trailer vocabulary, being woefully inadequate as it is, suggests to me that what you are calling a weight distribution hitch is something that I call anti-sway bars. I have them on my horse trailer. Is that what you're referring to?

    Trailer JD 3039R

I did not get curb weight. Coulda-shoulda. Dealer said it would be fine with 5k tractor. The 18 ft is a 10k trailer. Both have 1 ft high stake sides. Better ramp on the 18.

This is very helpful. Thaks a bunch. I was just looking at both and eighteen foot trailer and a twenty footer. Some advantages to both. Leaning towards the 20 ft.

I am very interested. This looks like it's eighty three inches wide by twenty feet long. That would work well. What are the axles rated and how much do you want for it?

    Trailer JD 3039R

All the trailers I have seen have electric brakes. That said, some of them are in various sad condition when it comes to used trailers.. Does anyone have any opinion about the relative quality of 4 inch tubular steel frame versus 5 inch I beam or channel iron frame? Where do you normally...

    Trailer JD 3039R

I guess it depends on how you count axles. The axel for each wheel is rated 3500# So the math works. I can only tell you what Ford tells me for towing capacity.

I need to do some interstate hauling with my 3039R. About 336 miles one-way. I will do this for about a year, or a bit less and then may sell the trailer or keep it to use with for hay hauling. In any event, I am in the market for a used or new trailer. Since this is a temporary need, I do...

How good/bad is the Frontier/JD SB1174P inverted blower?

You sound a lot like the people that wanted me to buy a bigger tractor than I thought I needed. They turned out to be very wrong. In any event, I bought the new 74'' blower on Tuesday and got it home. All we need now is some snow.

I agree the time is NOW. There is one on a lot for sale. The shoot and deflector are both hydro activated from the seat, so that's a plus. I don't have a cab :(. May have to do something about that eventually. But not now.

How good/bad is the Frontier/JD SB1174P inverted blower?

He was grousing about weight. Which might be a legit issue in some way, but I'm not wanting what he does. As mentioned by another, he wants a perfectly clean paved drive. I will live on gravel (as I do now). I'm a bit more pragmatic. Well, your tractor is not really comparable to mine...

How good/bad is the Frontier/JD SB1174P inverted blower?

Do I have enough clearance? Good question. Does any tractor? I won't know until I'm in the thick of it I suppose. One thing I learned more than a half a hundred years ago when cleaned snow off of neighbors' driveways for about $1.50, regardless of how deep it was, is that it is often easier...

I am looking around for a snow blower for this winter. For sure, I will need one. My soon to be regular driveway will be 1500 ft long and gravel in Northern Minnesota. My tractor is a JD 3039R. I'm looking at a SB1174P Frontier inverted blower that is 74" wide. The 3039 is "rated" for...

    Pull type Hybrid snowblowers ?

Ha, you are saved. Maybe. I'm interested in blowers for my driveway up north near Duluth. Weather here will just be ultra-miserable with relatively little snow build up. You must be getting the same rain on snow/slush that I have now. Nothing for a blower to mess with.

    Pull type Hybrid snowblowers ?

Not sure where I posted my location, but that's alright. Just a few miles from Wrenshall. Anyway, you prefer the front end blower. I have thought about that. I have the midpoint PTO for it, but from what I have heard mounting and dismounting is not particularly quick and easy and I will want...

    Pull type Hybrid snowblowers ?

I'm looking to buy. And I don't have a 5 series tractor. Mine is 3039R. But my driveway to be is 1/4 long and it will get 17" of snow in the next three days. I don't have to blow that this year, but next year, I will. So, I'm definitely all eyes and ears here.

    Pull type Hybrid snowblowers ?

I do not plan on a larger tractor in the future. This one should do forever, and if anything, I'd downsize with a new one. I was thinking a 74" rig would be nice, and I think the tractor is probably big enough for that. Maybe a slightly larger one would be okay, but I try to avoid oversizing...

    Pull type Hybrid snowblowers ?

I am reading this thread because I will be buying a blower for next year. I live in Iowa now and the snow is pretty minimal (except for last week) and I've always done my drive and barn area with a grading blade on a JD 3039R. Next year, I'll be living outside of Duluth with a 1/4 mile...

    Inverted Snow Blower

I find this an incredibly interesting thread. We have just purchased 50 acres that will require a 1/4 mile driveway, just south of Duluth, MN. Seat covers 3039R

Anyone have any recommendations for a decent seat cover for my 3039R (2016 if it matters)? Seems like a trivial issue but most of what I see looks like it will fit about like a well worn out cheap sweat sock. My tractor catches a lot of UV light that will degrade it eventually. Just want to...

    3039R and Loader hydraulics

I have a 2016 or '17 Deere 3039R with their H165 loader. It has been an awesome tractor with just a few, mostly ergonomic things I wish I could chance, but probably cannot. However, one issue that might be adjustable is the rate of the hysdraulics, particularly the rate of dumping the bucket...

What is "float" in JD 3039R w/ H165 loader?

The owners manual for a new tractor is pretty underwhelming in my opinion. One thing I was interested in was how to operate the loader a little more efficiently. This is my first FEL and I clearly don't know its full capabilities. The manual mentions using "float" mode at times, but I have no...

Mine is from Deere (aka Frontier - their implement division). I forget the model number, but it's right outside the door. Well, no model number on it. But it measures 61" from left to right. It comes on and off the FEL in about 3 minutes. Amazingly easy.. Just don't forget to undo the...

3 Pt Leveling box for 3039R

I am looking for a leveling box that I can use on the right side of the 3 pt hitch to adjust the level of the side link arms. It seems that there are lots of aftermarket leveling boxes for some other brands of tractors but I'm not finding anything for the 3000 series Deere CUTs. It would be...

Not much wood, but I would tear up the timber if I got serious about it. I've only had the tractor for 72 hrs so far, and it's muddy and covered with horse manure when I took this wood run just for fun. The axe is kinda special too, for those that care about such things.

2 vs 3 spd HST and transmission controls

After talking to a JD salesman, I am comparing a 3039R vs a 3038E. I was leaning towards an R, but the dealer thinks an E might be better for me ($5k cheaper). He has an R on the lot, but he can find an E easily I guess. Anyway, the E has a 2 spd hydro, and no adjustment to speed up or slow...
