Off on to the next project

Got it finished, the hardest part was figuring out how to attach the hydraulic pump to the crankshaft in the front. I built the three point with a hitch detachment so I can build other attachments and use the hydraulics. I will eventually add another valve on the other side for hydraulics in the...

Off on to the next project

Making some progress, need one more hose and the hydraulics are complete. Going to build an ATV like (think Kolpin) 3 point with a few mods making it a bit more flexible. The 3 point will be hydraulic instead of 12 volt. Using what I could find at the salvage yard so the 3 point will be heavy...

Thinking of making my backhoe attachment towable and usable OFF the tractor!

Thanks> Mine was very heavy (but big), I towed with my truck. It would tow at 60 mph. I overengineered everything and still had to strengthen the boom with 1/2 inch plate (on top of 3/8 square 3" tubing). I ran a 15 horse H/F engine and a 15 gallon tank. I never broke a weld but did try. I...

Thinking of making my backhoe attachment towable and usable OFF the tractor!

I think the 90 degree ouriggers will cause you to put massive strain in your frame and counterweight, i think you would have to really reinforce your frame

Thinking of making my backhoe attachment towable and usable OFF the tractor!

Well I did it the hard way and built the entire thing (except the bucket) but it was nice simply being able to attach to my truck and go. The first issue I see is you will need lots of counterweight since the outriggers are at a 90 degree point to the bucket instead of 45 degrees similar to...

Off on to the next project

OK, next dumb question. I am putting an open hydraulic system on my Yanmar YM146. I want to be able to use the system on the front and back of the tractor with attachments via quick connections. When I don't have anything attached via the quick connections do I need to run a line between the...

Off on to the next project

OK, have the process of mounting the pump figured out (back on this project after a long time off). Need some advice on valves. I am going to build a 3 point that I can attach to the tractor and then the implements. I want to build a core aerator and want to use the weight of the tractor to...

Off on to the next project

Well I have sold the last project (towable backhoe) and on to a new one. I have purchased a Yanmar YM146 (neat little tractor) and am going to mount a hydraulic pump on the front end of the tractor. The front has an electric PTO clutch (not working) and no room for a hydraulic pump in front of...

    Towable backhoe

Well I got it finished (well mostly anyway) I just wanted to thank all of you for the sage advice. I haven't had much time to play with it as the boss ordered a deck (with me as the laborer). For somebody who had never welded done fab or messed with hydraulics I learned alot. I need to add...

Finishing backhoe build need hydraulic fluid advice

I am finishing my towable backhoe build and need some hydraulic fluid advice. I don't know much about hydraulic fluid (or much else for that matter) but am doing my research. As my project doesn't come with "directions" I don't have a recommended fluid. My project utilizes a 6-10 GPM gear pump...

    Help on fittings

As I attempt to windup my towable backhoe build I am trying to connect my hydraulic tank to my pump. I need to go from 2 inch NPT (female) on the tank to SAE 12 (female) input on the pump. I have searched the fittings world over and am somewhat close but no cigar. Any help would be...

    hydraulic design review

Good afternoon: I am building a towable backhoe (I will post some pics) and am getting to the point I need to begin the attachment of hydraulic cylinders as well as motor, tank etc.... Most of the fab and welding (other than cylinder mounts, valves mounts, etc) including frame, boom, pivot...

    Please review my hydraulic design

Would you kind and learned gentlemen please review my hydraulic design for my homemade backhoe and provide constructive feedback? Thank you kindly.

    Newby needing help

I decided to build a towable backhoe. I have never fabricated nor welded anything and don't know anything about hydraulics so I figured this was a good way to learn (or create very heavy yard art). I didn't want to buy any plans, yes my wife thinks I am crazy as well. As with all my projects...
