Comparison Shuttle shift or hydrostat?? Is the extra costs worth it in a 50hp-ish cab tractor for pto power (brush hogging)

I have a 58 HP with shuttle shift. I often wonder if the hydro requires less maintenance. Every time I shift from forward to reverse, I wonder how much stress that puts on the clutch. It is not easy to split one of these big tractors in half to replace clutch. I have a small JD with loader...

Do white pines get old & brittle???

Somewhat off-topic, When I was a kid 70+ years ago the state of Maryland bought several farms around us. I used to see deer eating in the Buckwheat fields at night. The State planted pine trees in the fields. These trees are 70 or more years old. I don't know what kind of pine. To the point...

    Wanting to buy new tractor

Thanks for all of the replies. I have been impressed with the Yanmar. I haven't seen one or know of any dealers, but I do know they have good engines and make tractors with brands other than Yanmar.

    Wanting to buy new tractor

I have 265 acres most is wooded, with 30 acres of farmland some hillside pasture fields. No longer have livestock on farm, just make hay. Need something to keep pasture fields from growing up maintaining roads and trees along the field/woods line from overtaking the fields.

Do you bring your battery inside for the winter?

This is not empirical evidence, just my experience with one battery. I bought a new Branson tractor in 2004 and never charged the battery or had to jump-start it until it became weak in 2022, when I replaced it. The tractor was not stored but was used very little in the winter other than snow...

3-Point Hitch Automatic Lift Control XU 6158

Yeah, it works fine without the automatic control lever. I am not certain about the draft control level, but I feel that I probably tried that. I tried many different things and couldn't get any combination to work.

3-Point Hitch Automatic Lift Control XU 6158

Thanks for the reply. I believe I have followed the manual's instructions. It won't raise all the way up for some reason. Even though I have followed the instructions, I am still inclined to still believe it is operator error. (Me)

3-Point Hitch  Automatic Lift Control XU 6158

How do I set the bottom and top limit on the automatic lift control. I currently set the lower limit with the manual 3pt level. When I use the automatic lift control to raise the three point hitch it only raises about one foot instead of the full height. Am I doing something wrong?

That is insane. Contact another dealer and never use that dealer again. To me it seems logical that a dealer would love to do warranty work.

Early 2000's Branson 2810 a Journey (if your having problems with any Branson or Parts this might help)

Where I can find the conversion diagram for the hoses. My plastic tank developed a leak at one of the ports. My fault while running over brush while brush hogging. I think I can rig up where it will work like new, but if I can get rid of the tank would be good. Thanks.

    PTO Hydraulic Pump

I appreciate the threads. Refined my thinking on this topic. I was going to build one myself but that looks very time consuming. If I can find a reasonably priced pto pump setup I think I will go with that. Thanks for the guidance.

I want to connect some Skid Steer attachments to the front-end load that requires up to 20 gpm to operate. My tractor only puts out 9.9 gpm. I am considering a 20 gallon pto pump, to run a brush cutter, post hole digger, etc. Anyone have experience with pto pump. What are the pro and...

How to adjust clutch on Farmtac 665 DTC

I have a Farmtrac 665 DTC (shuttle). The clutch does not disengage fully. I have adjusted it and the tractor will not stop. The clutch does not appear to be slipping nor does it have a smell. The tractor seems to pull okay, but will not disengage. Any suggestions.

That is an interesting setup you have. What type of fail mower are you using and how many GPM is required? I would like to have something like that to use on grown up fence rows. Buying Advice Cab or no cab?

I bought a 60HP tractor with cab about 2 months ago. I was looking forward to the cab but I found out I really like no cab. With the cab you do not have the full effect of sounds from the tractor or your implements. Sounds from your machine tell you a lot. The a/c is nice but you do not have...

I am not able to give you an answer based on experience, just have some thoughts that were bounced around to me when I bought a new Ford in 2018. These trucks have some type of rust protection that comes from the factory. Undercoating is just another money maker. Most of us spend hundred or...

Something I don't understand about applications of below 40hp tractors

Yeah, the 8N was the first tractor we got. Great tractor but you had to respect using it in the hills of Western Maryland. We pulled a baler and two bottom plows. Had to be an astute operator to pull and hold back a baler on these hills. Only 24 hp but the front end would stand in the air...

Galvanize Steel Fitting Used on Hydraulic

Galvanize Steel Fitting Used on Hydraulic

I see quite a lot of 3/4 inch steel fitting on tractor hydraulics. My tractor has a few. I am wondering if these fittings are recommended for high-pressure hydraulics. They appear to be more durable than the brass and stainless steel fittings. They are rated at ASTM 53. As far as I can tell...

    what hydraulic fluid for 535

These model Farmtracs are Ford. Ford tractors were made by Fiat, Shirbaura, Escort and I am sure several others. The older tractors were all Fords. Then came the Fordson (I think that was a Ferguson/Ford Combo). If I have my facts right Ford quit making tractors in 1992, but the name carried...

Do homeowners buy snowplows to plow their own properties?

I bought a plow for my truck back in 2000. I paid $2500+ for it. Every time you get a new truck you have to buy a new mount. $1000+ for the mount. You can take all of that money and put it into a tractor and snow plow and buy a cab for the tractor if you want. A lot better investment...

Buy an existing JD 2020 or wait for newer?

If you are moving to Alaska, buy-in Alaska. Your post doesn't say where you are, but the transportation cost could be thousands of dollars. Buying a loader would be 50% or more of the price you pay for the tractor and you definitely want four-wheel drive. Chains don't "cut it". Buy a...
