Equipment buying negotiation strategies, haggling stories sellers, etc.

I lived on both sides of the fence. As I buyer, I found that a show of cash in hand is a bit of an eye catcher. Something about the sight of cash is really a teaser. No matter how much it is, just the sight of the green, triggers something in the brain. As a seller, you have to realize that...

I keep breaking 1/2 ratchets on my lug nuts.

Had the same problem with a 1969 Chrysler. Replace all factory studs on the wheels with new ones from Auto zone or an auto parts store. Not original. MIGHT help. Sometimes the different metals in the nuts reacts with the metal in the studs and they kind of weld. Also try using anti seize.

Buying Advice Questions about potential purchase, not sure where to start

Look at Yanmar, Holland and other non-best brands. I have a used 2500 Yanmar with FEL (front end loader) made in 1977, bought about 15 years ago. You will find uses for the FEL than you ever thought of. Yanmar also makes most of the parts for John Deer (JD) including engine and more. Buying from...

    Your latest "fixed" thing.

YES! I thought I was the only one that has these days. All I can tell you is that just when things can't get any worst, they do. Only kidding. Just try to remember a day when everything went right, I know they seem far and few, but they were there, and they will be there again. Of course...

Do any of y'all seal, wax or ceramic coat your tractor??

Back LONG time ago I worked at a used car lot as a detail man. Worked with a guy that used the kerosene method that could put a shine on a junk yard model T. I never could get the hang of it as many times as he tried to show me.

Buying Advice Cab or no cab?

ALWAYS buy up from what you think you need. I am 80 with a 25 hp Yanmar in Tx on just 2 ac of wooded. Wish I had a grapple, power teering, 4 w drive. Cab would be nice but LOTs of brush and low branches. Just had a fellow working next door with a forester machine clear about 3/4 ac with his...

    Fighting 'Solar Farm' Installation

Friend of mine in New York had a wind farm put up some wind powered towers. Even though he is really far from them he can see the windmills so the power company pays him so much a month because it takes away from his nature view. It has been a long time since I talked to him so I can't tell you...

    Backing up a Gen Trailer

Backing up my 16-foot trailer was a breeze but trying to back up my 4 foot one on my lawn mower sucks. Clamp on hitch or practice, practice, practice, practice. Clamp on hitch is easier and less time consuming.

I'm in shock... Kubota BX pricing

When was the last time you walked into a Micky d's and ordered a .50 hamburger. Paid 12k for my first house in 1975. Bought a car 5 years later that cost me twice that price. Installed an easy loader on back of my 77 Yanmar. (Hoyl tractor) Loved it for a year then wrecked my hog. Next tractor...

A sad day on the farm

Everyone has said everything, and I am with them all. I too had to start over back in 1985. Won't go into detail but all I had was a 12-year-old car and everything that fit into the trunk. Didn't have nearly as much as you but today I have much more than back then and better things. You will go...

Have a dog that eats to fast for it's own good?

I have read that dogs that eat fast are at risk for getting a twisted stomach that can kill them in just a few minutes. Having dogs for over 50 years we have had one die from that (Great Dane) in a matter of minutes. Not enough time to get him to vet 4 miles down the road. Seems it effects large...

Texas law says if you come off a dirt road you must stop and clean off you tires/ tracks or whatever before driving on a paved road. That means ANY vehicle. Separate Nails from Wood Ash

I have some powerful speaker mags that I use this method of putting bag over. Works great. Try hooking a stick or even a string to the magnet so you don't have to bend down. Have one on my tractor and in every place I do work. They are great for holding small things when working on things like...

I also live it Tx where the temps are going into the triple digits this weekend. I am not 50 ,60, or even 70 anymore. If you go out to work in that heat, the plants might not be the only thing that won't survive.
