    DPF Regeneration driving me crazy...

I didn't say you did. The "byproduct of gasoline" crowd seem to think it is. Gasoline is easier to convert to more purified streams than diesel so the ratio isn't as fixed as you think. Those decisions are made by commercial business service types. We have lots of knobs to adjust the lighter...

    DPF Regeneration driving me crazy...

The infrastructure investment needed to make <15ppm sulfur diesel is a huge reason diesel jumped. Also Uncle Sug added more tax per gallon somewhere in the late 90s I think.

    DPF Regeneration driving me crazy...

It is one of dozens of products coming from a barrel of crude oil. The myth that diesel is a waste stream or not a wanted product is nonsense. There is no "giving away" of anything coming out of a refinery. From the ethane to the coke, it all has value and depending on market conditions can be...

    DPF Regeneration driving me crazy...

Diesel is not a byproduct of gasoline. Diesel is a crude oil product that does not take as much energy to produce as gasoline.

    Old Fuel in Diesel Tractor

The only way air is displaced with the priming lever is with fuel. If you displaced it with fuel, the priming lever would get stiffer to operate and you would have fuel up to the injectors and now would need to bleed them.

Kubota engine difficult to turn over when cold (not battery)

Glow plugs do nothing for the crank, just help with the start. Check your battery cables and grounds for clean and tight contact. How do you know the battery is good? Has it been load tested? An auto parts store will run that test for free. Sounds to me like a connection or battery issue...

PTO generator at max torque or max HP?

For some, sure. A standalone also costs significantly more than a 3pt attachment. You are buying the driver and the attachment. If the fuel source isn't there already, the cost of adding that alone will probably surpass the price of a pto genset. And then there is added maintenance of a...

60 Amp. portable generator hookup to bldg.

Sounds like you need NEMA 18-60 connections. I used NEMA 14-50s for my 15kw pto gen. It has a 240V 50A breaker. You should be able to buy an RV hookup style box and put whatever outlet you need in it.

    Old Fuel in Diesel Tractor

You don't need a special funnel. General diesel troubleshooting steps are what should be done now. Anything else is a waste of time and money. Get a new fuel filter if you haven't. Drain the tank at the lowest point, probably going into the filter. With the hose off, pour some fresh diesel...

    Old Fuel in Diesel Tractor

If it's been sitting 8 years the fuel hose may have become brittle enough to suck air and starve the pump. What year/make/model of tractor? Ignore the "diesel is bad after x amount of time" crowd. Diesel can last for a long time, depending on storage conditions. At this point you don't know...

    All-electric Bobcat compact track loader

Not in the least bit. It makes the energy source more expensive and adds more regulations and layers of ******** bureaucracy that do nothing but slow down progress and make things worse.

    Possible DEF shortages

It will not cause all of them to fail, just newer ones. Older SCR treatment packages had simpler provisions for emissions compliance. Level in DEF tank...check Dosage pump functioning...check That is all the older systems cared about. You could fill the tank with urine and it would function...

    Possible DEF shortages

The PCM/ECU going into limp mode is not an engine failure. That's a subsystem causing a fault and a subsequent derating of power. The engine has not failed.
  21. H

    Possible DEF shortages

No it wouldn't, SCR systems only deal with exhaust. It can be bypassed/removed via ECU programming.

    Common rail vs mechanical injection

A bunch of them since they refuse to comprehend OEM filters are MUCH cheaper than the parts they are protecting. Or they don't know there is a difference. I will say it doesn't help with a lot of the knock-offs and the way places like amz push the trash sets. The person that doesn't know any...

    Common rail vs mechanical injection

The base 5.9 is just that...5.9l of displacement. Same block, different auxillary parts depending on application.

    Common rail vs mechanical injection

The bearings on a turbo are oil cooled. Whether that oil has additional cooling via water/air/other oil is application depending.
  28. H

    Common rail vs mechanical injection

6.7 turbos are water cooled, so that helps. Coking oil in bearings is pretty hard to do, but I understand the sentiment.

Mechanical injectors fire from fuel pressure
  30. H

    Common rail vs mechanical injection

TuRbO dIeSeLs BaD...that's a new one. Turbos make diesels much more efficient. Let them cool for a minute or 2 after WOT and then shut it down. Or don't. The oil coking in the bearings is a myth founded in a one-off extreme case...99% of people couldn't replicate that scenario if they tried.
  31. H

    Common rail vs mechanical injection

A common rail is usually self-priming at the injectors. A mechanical injector is a lot cheaper than a common rail injector. A common rail will usually be more fuel efficient since the computer controls the pulse width and will adjust for load. Clean fuel is the most important thing. Filters...

    30k tractor budget

Round bales and goats work if you use a sheep/goat round bale feeder. They have a lot of small bars to keep them off of it. If you feed goats round bales with a cattle or horse round bale feeder the goats will waste about 50% or more of the bale from climbing on it and bedding in it.

failed locking pin on locking chain grab hook - am i doing it wrong?

Using the shackle on the drawbar is fine. If you can, go 1 or 2 stake pockets further back with the anchor point on the trailer. The closer to 45 degrees the better.

nOOb to chaining down - is this sufficient?

If you are using the axles, cross them and get the chains off the tires. Down and away pulls offer the best load retention amd securing. A shackle in the drawbar works best, easy and only takes 1 chain and binder.

    25hp Tractors for Vegetable Farming

I bought it spring of 2020, they were $1500 then and I found a $500 off coupon. I see HF jacked them up to $2k now. There are others out there, Dayton is a brand I saw too. The HF one is pretty straightforward and just needed gear oil added. It calls for 90w, I use 80w-90.

    25hp Tractors for Vegetable Farming

What size pto generator do you plan on running? I read somewhere "they" say 2HP @ the pto per KW. Couldn't tell you where I read it, just that I did. I run a 15kw pto generator behind my JD 5055D, no issues and I think I have plenty of hp to spare.
