Function of Range and RPM on an HST

Really great thread. I feel like I have a much better understand now.

Function of Range and RPM on an HST

This is wonderfully helpful, thank you. So then, as I understand, when I press down on the pedal I'm increasing oil pressure which changes the angle of the swashplate, thereby causing the pistons to begin to pump, which increases the displacement as the engine continues to turn the whole thing...

Function of Range and RPM on an HST

So on an HST tractor are cylinders actually being turned off and based on the amount of transmission oil flow? What then does the swash plate actually function as? Does it slow the transmission oil flow? How does this variable displacement result in the torque curve we see that peaks early and...

Function of Range and RPM on an HST

I've dug through the forums here and even read some scholarly articles on the subject but I still don't understand how revs affect the performance of the HST when using hydraulic implements like a loader. I can feel the difference it makes in pulling, cutting and ground engaging implements but...

    FEL level indicator

More often, I want to know when my bucket is curled correctly to hold full loads when it's above my line of sight but at varying heights. When I'm loading something like a big dumpster and I've got a bucket full of miscellaneous objects that need to clear the lip before dumping I worry about...

    Brush Hogging In the Snow?

Ha, me too. I've got lots of layers and a yellow helly hansen pvc suit that goes on over that though so we'll see. I hog with my bucket low. My cutter is a glorified rock detector regardless of conditions. How was your quality? Did you have to get lower than usual? How'd it go? I can stick to...

    Brush Hogging In the Snow?

I've had a few pernicious inches on my property and I'm way behind schedule on clearing the land. Anybody here ever brush hog with 2-4" on the ground?

Orange Goop Possibly Coming Out of Tire

I tried a plug once but it ended up not working because I didn't have an air compressor handy to complete the seal. I appreciate the reassurance, guys.

What tires should you get on a new Tractor, R1, R4, or Turf?

My MX6000 is pushing 7000lbs with FEL and loaded tires calculated in (and that's without counting 3pt attachments). Turf or not, I'm going to make a horrendous mess so I use R1s and NEVER worry about traction. This thing has so much traction you'd swear it could swim.

Orange Goop Possibly Coming Out of Tire

It feels rubbery and google is showing me similarly colored rope plugs. They may have just plugged it when they were dealing with the other puncture. I'm hesitant to mess with it as it's a filled tire.

    Maybe it's a tire plug?

Orange Goop Possibly Coming Out of Tire

Hey folks, so I got this tractor new last Fall with the rear tires filled. Now I'm finding this kind of orange goop that looks like it might be coming out of the tire, like a sealant. It's not my grease, which I include in the picture, because the color and texture are wrong. I thought maybe it...

    Cleaning Up Substantial Yard Debris

Sadly, my soil is extremely soft and perpetually waterlogged. I'd worry about a dozer getting around ok. I've also got an F250 so I was looking into dump trailers. The way we've been mostly clearing it is slowly piling the stuff, then having multiple people handload my bucket rapidly which I...

That's the same view I take. It's not mine, it's just my turn and when I have kids I want them to have a better turn than I did. Stewardship.

Are you enjoying yours as much as I am mine? Boy, she's a worker. So nimble too. Even with a FEL she maneuvers so well. Getting maybe 15/20 hours out of a tank. You?

    Cleaning Up Substantial Yard Debris

Well, after more exploration with all the leaves bare it does seem at least like the junk is mostly contained to the first five acres or so. After that it's sporadic, the odd pile of beer bottles in the woods or old hunting stand. Seems the junkers were too lazy to walk their junk out into the...

Tires filled with Beet Juice too heavy for landscaping and field work?

What I plan to do is clear some of the foliage alongside the path right near the opening to the hedgerow. This way I'm basically driving diagonally through the opening and bypassing the vast majority of the pathway and so localizing my damage to the smallest area possible. Waiting for dry...

Tires filled with Beet Juice too heavy for landscaping and field work?

Ruts have been a big concern for me as well. There is a few hundred foot long pathway between hedgerows that needs brush hogging to keep the ticks at bay and that gives me access to most of the property. Running up and down that pathway in the late summer gave me foot plus deep ruts. It's...

Kubota L4701 Sometimes Stalls When Moving Forward with HST Pedal

I had the same issue. Found out the foam seat froze and wouldn't activate or maintain pressure on the switch if motion occurred. Pulled it out, checked the connections, they were all fine and so I zip tied that switch down. Warranty and liability are always a concern when bypassing safety...

My mother made me a great big cover for my German Shepherd's crate, snaps and all. I bet she'd be delighted to have a project like that. Thanks. Yeah, I use the K100 to treat, even in the warmer weather. And yeah, I got the fibreglass canopy with the bracket system. It was expensive and it's...

Clearing Snow Off An Open Station

OK, so I thought I'd come back and share my precautions and experiences so far: I've been using something like a 16'x12' tarp and blowing the snow off while fresh with a shopvac to great success. Those of us in the northeast just had a big storm though. A forecast 21" for me ended up as a...

    MX6000 Service Manual

So, I got in touch with my dealership's parts department. Had a nice leisurely conversation with a gentleman who spent years in service first. He looked and couldn't find a thing other than the Op Manual, suggesting it may not even exist yet. He asked me what I needed to know and I told him I...

    Cleaning Up Substantial Yard Debris

That bucket is phenomenal I'll look into it come spring. Going to clear brush and centralize the trash now. As for the house, we've got trusted high quality contractors (family actually) who are doing such a phenomenal job. There property is part of an estate so it's funding the renovations...

    Cleaning Up Substantial Yard Debris

My family motto is to do better than our parents did. That's what our parents said and that's what we'll say to our kids. I did end up doing this. Got two people who basically told me how to sort my recycling. I looked into a dump trailer. I've got an old 5.4L 2002 F250. Wasn't sure what kind...

    Cleaning Up Substantial Yard Debris

It's young growth and bramble mostly. The woods themselves are pretty clean. I'm just clearing the vegetation to find the junk right now. It's all useless nuisance growth anyway. This actually is a good idea. I reached out to the state to see if there was anything to help offset the costs of...

    Cleaning Up Substantial Yard Debris

Yeah, I definitely see this as a long-term issue. It's a disappointment because I'd played around with the idea of starting a campground but it's frankly a little embarrassing when people pull around back. So I'm just going to chip away. The remote junk in the middle of the woods is what bugs...

    Ordering a L6060

When I got my MX6000 in the Fall I had to be flexible. I initially sent in builds for the L4701 and MX5400 for quote and was promptly told they had neither and didn't know when they would but they had two MX6000s they could build to my specs for an extra $1300. I jumped on it and told him I'd...

Sorry, I meant crunchy, as in a crunchy granola type. I'm in Southern Vermont in a pretty desirable area but the property fell into disuse and was then absentee landlords to a series of scumbag over thirty years who just trashed it. The house is being renovated in stages but it's really rough. I...

    Cleaning Up Substantial Yard Debris

Those are VERY cool but I think my wife would lose it if I started trying to blowtorch the garbage. Everybody recommends the dig and bury method. Considering it's old agricultural land and a multigenerational family property, that and I'm a bit crunch, I'd rather just pick it all up. Small...

    Cleaning Up Substantial Yard Debris

The issue is that everybody threw the stuff into the woods and bushes so I have to take a chainsaw and a hedge trimmer to even find the stuff, to hand load it, to brush hog it. The pastures are pretty clear. Nobody bothered to use the massive fields to throw stuff away so it's all in bramble and...

    Cleaning Up Substantial Yard Debris

I figured out the why part recently. I've got a pile of old tires out there and I'll be honest, when I changed my car tires recently I did look sideways at that pile and think, eh, what's a few more. I snapped myself out of it and did the right thing though. Trouble is, it's a snowball.

    Cleaning Up Substantial Yard Debris

I'm pretty well restricted to what I've got for now. The dump gets shy about renting out the big dumpsters this time of year so I'm just going to try to centralize the debris over the course of the winter. That's what I did over the last few months and it filled two 30yd dumpsters.

I've had a lot of success hammering logging tongs into big stuff and dragging it out. Really underrated tool. Often times you can open it, slam one side into an object and then when the chain comes tight it gets a fantastic grip with the other side. I've got a neighbor who likes to rip up my...

    Cleaning Up Substantial Yard Debris

Hey folks, I moved onto about 80 acres and the first five of it have been used as a junkyard for all kinds of miscellaneous debris and junk. Yeah, I've got the black K100 in all my fuel. And thanks man, she's such a monster. I have GOT to add a rear work light though. Clearing Snow Off An Open Station

Hey, folks. Just got my first tractor, an MX6000 ROPS with a canopy. Due to supply issues I got it by surprise. I hadn't expected it til spring so I got caught with my pants down on storage. I plan to use the thing all Winter but being in Vermont that means my operator's station is already...
