Thanks all for the replies. I ended up with simply a 4 ft length of scrap 3 inch angle iron, with two outside edges pointing down, along with a wood "sled" attached behind to keep the angle from flipping over. Also added about 30 lbs of weight for better scraping force. My small electric quad...
Thanks, I'll try that - I have used Diesel Purge on my VW Golf so maybe it will help here too.
The stuff is best used full strength so you need to plumb a jug of it directly into the pump and run the engine for 15 or 20 minutes.
Doesn't have glow plugs. It is a hot wire/diesel fuel ignite in...
Yeah, I also find the heat gun in the intake is useful. Most of my problem I think is related to it fires only on one cylinder when cold. I guess I may have a bad injector but I don't have the extraction tool to check it (or the compression).
It also gets colder here in AB than BC.
Do you think now that a 6 ft blade was maybe a bit wide for that tractor size? I can handle considerable more than 6" w/o front chains although I have some pretty heavy weights on the rear wheels (I encased scrap 8" iron pipe flanges in concrete and bolted them to the inside of the wheels -...
That is the setup I fabbed for my Yanmar 155D after getting tired of dragging around a rear blade on my gravel driveway. I found the front mount blade to be far superior, at least for my small tractor. I added an adjustable downstop to keep the blade a small set distance above the surface to...
I dunno, I've been manually raking the mounds for years and the problem ebbs and flows but hasn't really gotten much worse. I've found if the dug up loam is spread around the grass grows back through it quickly so the overall area with bare ground stays fairly small. The biggest problem is the...
Thank you all for the great suggestions, both store bought and shop made. The weighted chain link fence material sounds interesting in particular - I think I'll try that first.
Say what you will but poisoning wildlife, even if they are "just" gophers, doesn't work for me.
Was wondering if anyone might have some ideas on a home-built device to be towed behind a small tractor (Yanmar 15HP) for smoothing out the mounts of dirt that pocket gophers leave (I'm getting tired of rakin' the dang things). Maybe something shop built, maybe something purchased? It would...
That's a cool idea. Would adding a flywheel to the smaller motor enhance the generator effect?
If one where to do that, I wonder how small a gen could start a 1 1/2 HP well pump motor (which is what I have and my 3 KW generator won't, not surprisingly, start it)?
I'm not sure that is what is needed here. Looked at the specs and it appears, at least to me, that the 7.5 HP, 5.5KW is for a 3-phase application (although the specs also say it is a 1-phase starter so who knows?). Quoting the spec:
"This Altistart 01 can be used for a motor rated power up to...
Why would the breaker take longer to trip with larger wire? I would think if anything it would trip faster as the larger wire would allow greater current under a short condition.
Hey, I have a Golf TDI for which I use the Rotella 5-40. Thinking of buying it by the pail and also using it for my YM155D. One reason in particular is that it's a hard, old weather start (I dunno why, the Therostart works and it runs fine once it's going). Anyhow, was wondering if the 5-40...
I fabed a mount on the back of the 3PH blade to use the gauge wheels from my 3PH mower - not quite the same as a pony grader but worked much better than the unmodified blade.
I was in a similar situation years ago. Sold the 3ph mower and bought a new Poulan hydrostatic xmission mower for not many more $. And, far more convenient and maneuverable than the tractor.
Any suggestions on what would be a good additive?
BTW, I added a can of Diesel Purge (to a fairly low tank level so it should be at a pretty good concentration). I dunno if it enhances cetane level but it does, along with the heat gun boost, starts are a lot easier now.
Already have a clamp on heater. It helps but sometimes not good enough. I don't know what its wattage is but the heat gun would put out a ton more and it appears so far to be a big improvement (also faster).
Yes, I was a bit concerned about that but, even with the heat gun on high for about 20 minutes, there was no significant heating of the board as the output of the gun is directed down and toward the top of the engine. It is something I will be watching though for a while more until I'm...
Thanks all for the replies. I will leave the diesel fuel as is.
In the meantime, I have constructed an insulation board enclosure that fits over and around the engine. It has a hole on top into which the nozzle of a heat gun is inserted. When left turned on high setting for 10 or 15...
Hey, I have a Yanmar 155D which is not a great starter in cold weather (pretty much anything below freezing). The thing runs fine once going and warmed up a bit (smooth running with no smoke or blowby). I have checked the Thermostart device and valve timing - all OK.
One thing I'm wondering...
