Hadn't heard of the sizzle test, but it sounds like a good idea, I'll give it a go. Early in this thread, a member mentioned a hydraulic filter cart that could polish the water out of the oil. Although I didn't find one where I live, I just stumbled across this method that was posted on a...
Quick update: I waited until the warmest part of the warmest day (a couple weeks ago now) and the tractor started up. I added an anti-gel rich fresh diesel to the tank and she's running as good as ever. As for the hydraulics; I put 1.6 bottles of Seafoam in the hydraulic tank (the rest in the...
I have no reason to believe contaminated fuel got into my system, just perhaps summer diesel that had no anti-gel additive. The only other possible source of contamination is that I left the tank 1/3 full for a few months, so perhaps some in-tank condensation and the resulting small amount of...
I mean that it cranks, and sputters as if wanting to start, but seems to be starved of fuel. I've got a bottle of Lucas anti-gel at the house, but may need to go with a product like Diesel 911 to clear the problem out. Hopefully this is all it is. I could replace the fuel filter as suggested...
I'll try this very thing. Do you see any need to attempt to flush the diesel/seafoam out of the system, or just drain it and refill with a high quality (perhaps thinner) hyd fluid?
Yes, I did mean pumps, though I also realize that there are also motors onboard. I believe those would turn the high pressure fluid into forward motion when I push the drive pedal. Kind of a compressor vane vs a turbine vane relationship, but with a different mechanism?
You reminded me that a...
Good stuff. I've seen that diesel 911 product, and will pick some up this weekend when I'm home. I'll also source some of the low viscosity HyGard. I'm not adverse to spending money for quality (which I thought I was with the oil I unwittingly contaminated), but for a flush I'm interested in...
I'll have to check to see whether I got the "premium" fluid or not. Probably not, as I was buying cheap stuff since it likely won't be in the machine long. Hopefully it won't do much damage in the short time it will be in there. Thanks for the heads up.
So you're suggesting that I add Seafoam...
While I patiently await a reply to my main problem, I'll ask a distantly related question, as I'm hungry to learn about my machine, and Yanmar doesn't make it easy.
As far as I can tell, my tractor has two hydraulic motors... Does this make sense? But it certainly only has one reservoir. All...
So I imagined that I'd have more time to work on the tractor, then life happened. I've been mostly out of town for the past couple weeks and down with the flu for the rest. But during a brief period of time at home and upright, I put in warm fluid, gave it some time to settle then started it...
Racing a cold front, I started work before receiving suggestions. I didn't consider, removing hoses, but probably would have tried my simpler way first anyhow. When cracked, the drain plug initially released what was probably 1 tablespoon of water, then another cup of two or diluted oil. I...
Thanks guys. I'd like to think that no damage has been done too, but a note in the operator's manual about operating a cold hydraulic system before adequate warm up time had me worried. I tend to be gentle on machines in general though; I've never even brought mine up to full rpms, so...
I bought a used Yanmar SA424 and immediately changed all fluids and filters. The tractor ran great all summer, but I was slow to address a small leak in one of the backhoe lines. I topped up the fluid in the fall, and noticed that the steering was stiff initially when cold, but would return to...
I hear ya. Called the closest dealer a number of weeks back to ask questions. Super grumpy and unhelpful. I tried to order a number of parts from him, and basically was discouraged from doing so because "the freight would be more than the part". When I pressed, he said that he couldn't price...
Definitely a "SA24". There are dozens listed on auction sites; all that I have seen came from Home Depot and are ex-rental machines. The larger rear wheels would make this based off the 424 I believe.
Fantastic! Mine is the 424, as I have the larger wheel/tires. Makes sense that HD would eliminate the ability for a rental customer to abuse the tractor. Thanks for the parts info. I'd love to know where you got them. I have a small leak from the transmission, and eventually will need to...
I wish it did. That site (nor any publication from Yanmar) has no info about the SA24 at all, and parts info is pretty much non-existent. Basically just a sales brochure.
I do like fixing my own stuff and sometimes even fabricating my own parts, but I wasn't quite prepared for how hard finding manuals or parts would be. Having the dealer suggest I make my parts was definitely not expected.
Hi,
I've been watching the used market for Yanmar (and others) sub-compact tractors for some time, and noticed that there are a lot of ex-rental machines that come up for auction at around 5 years old. Home Depot machines are common, and vary widely in condition and wear. Specifically, I...
