    It has a little wiggle in the hub but not to bad. The bearings were reused from previous repair. The space between the axle and the hub does tend to get wider as time goes on. I am thinking I need to haul the tractor to the dealer and get them to repair in a shop rather than out in the field.

    That's good advice on installing the new seal. That is also the method we used. AS far as chewing up the gears I believe that we are not getting it tight enough. I think I will make the tool Harry in KY recommended and go from there. Thank you for your help.

    ok, that is a little more intense than what my mechanic & I did. Thank you for you example and advice. I probably need to take it into the dealership and get them to tighten it up. Thanks again.

    Wow, it looks like the retaining nut should be around 400 NM. I doubt we achieved that with a hammer and chisel used to tighten that nut.
