How far is too far for driving tractor on the road?

If you have this need you should own a truck and trailer capable of moving your tractor. Driving the tractor that kind of distance seems insane. I would only do that if I was doing snow removal along the way. Like the tractor was actually being used over those miles.

    How to remove pin

You should have read all posts. The agreement was that I do maintenance on it as payment for borrowing.

    How to remove pin

It has it, but I don’t think the backhoe has ever been off. Although I did see a york rake kicking around so it might get taken off every once and awhile. Not my machine.

    How to remove pin

It’s really a sweet little machine. Very solid. My ford 1720 is a joke compared to it. This one only has about 475 hours on it. I was able to get the fitting to take grease and I’m not going to bother with trying to get the pin out. We can cross that bridge when we need to. Thanks for all the...

    How to remove pin

Fitting flows. I took it off and sprayed penetrating fluid in there with compressed air. Nothing. I’ll try scraping out the hole. Kinda crappy access.

    How to remove pin

I will add that the cylinder does move around on the pin, so I’m assuming the pin is rusted up on the sides to the thumb.

    How to remove pin

I’m borrowing a yanmar cbl 40 from a friend. The deal is I grease and change oil. I was not able to get the thumb cylinder at thumb to take grease. Fitting is ok. I did everything I could do. Next step is to remove the pin. Before I start bashing on things I’m wondering if the pin has caps or...

What is the best way to level truck when towing?

Air bags for sure. I have them on my F350 srw. I have front bags for snow plow as well. I use them all the time depending on what I’m towing and how loaded the trailer is. Having an onboard compressor and controller is the only way to do it imo.

    Snow removal accident

I’ve never known anyone to use a snowcat to clear roads. I would think they would damage them as that isn’t what they are intended for. Anyway, hope he recovers fully. I think he is quite involved with private forest fire equipment acquisition and supplies.

    Digging 400' Trench for cable

I would always do conduit. And I’d add an extra conduit for future use to be safe. 2” for a coax seems a bit overkill. Definitely use 20’ pieces.

Truck & Trailer ideas to tow 14,000 and be under 26,000 pounds

I don’t see how you can do it safely without being over 26k combined. Just get the class A and outfit the truck (dual rear wheels) and trailer properly and be done with it.

Best front tire for loader work?

I’ve got a Ford 1720 with R1 tires. We seem to chew through the front tires pretty quickly because we use the loader a lot. I like the traction of the R1, but wondering if a R4 or R14 will hold up better. Also, would I be able to put a different tire on the same wheel, or would I need new wheels...

Oil & Fuel  Ford 1720 oil capacity

Does anyone know the engine oil capacity on the 1720. Can't track down the manual. 4 quarts got the oil right in the middle of the dipstick but I recall it being 5 in the past. Thanks, Nick.

    Problem with 1720 starting

My Ford 1720 has an issue. It happened a couple times and this third time seems to be all the time now. Was running fine. Turned it off for a second. Went to restart it and nothing. Just a click. Fooled around with wires etc. removed battery leads and cleaned terminals and it started up no...

    New truck suggestions

I'm possibly looking at a new truck. Been a ford guy, but looking at all the big three. Full crew cab short bed 1 ton srw 4wd. Looking for engine opinions. Fuel economy of the gas engines and reliability of the newer diesels? Currently own a 2005 f350 v10 in same configuration that I'm...

    Looking for used L45

Came across a used L45. I know the capabilities of these machines. Don't have much experience with them in general, but would be great for what I do. It's a 2009 machine with 1800 hours. No thumb put plumbed for one. It looks pretty clean from the pics. What would be a reasonable price for...

    Help with lorenz blower

Just bought an older 530 Lorenz blower. It's in ok shape, but I missed some things that probably would have prevented me from buying it. Biggest issue right now is that the top auger is welded to the plate that is on the gear. So the shear bolts are useless. I'm trying to figure out a way to...

    Hitch pin sizes

I'm looking at a used Lorenz 530 blower. It has ears for the lift arms. Not sure what size they are. My tractor arms have 7/8" pins. Should I assume the blower does as well, or might it have 3/4"? I'm thinking of grabbing some 3/4" bolts just in case to get the thing home. It seems like for...

    Rebuilding Ford Bushhog

Be got an older Ford Bushhog. The skin of the machine is really trashed. I've decided to have a new one made and I'll weld on all the stiffeners and 3 pt linkage. I'm trying to take it apart now. On the under side is a big disc that the blades bolt to. The disc seems to be in a spline joint...

    Price for Woods Blower

Looking at a Wood blower I believe it is model SB64S. Hand crank chute. $3200. Brand new. I missed out on some cheaper units due to wife talking me out of it:mad::(. Still, with all the snow, it is really the only solution. Is that a fair price for that blower? Thanks.

Berco self contained loader mounted blower

I'm looking at a Berco 72" self contained blower. It is actually a utv mount blower than has been converted to skid steer quick attach. It has a Honda engine and the controls are all electric. Anyone have experiences with something like this? Wondering how it might hold up to semi commercial...

Removing 770B Loader for water pump replacement on 1720

Seems that I have a leaking water pump on my 1720 Ford. Dealer quoted me $600+ to fix and that was if I removed the loader. Another $175 for them to remove. I'm thinking I should just do it myself. Has anyone ever pulled a 770B loader? Never done it before, but it looks to come off pretty...

    Comparison  TLB's

I currently own a Ford 1720. Ive put a skid steer quick attach on it and also have a woods backhoe BH 80 I believe. It is the 8' backhoe. It has turned into a pretty handy little machine. The only problem is that it is just that. A little machine. I'm thinking about stepping up to a larger...

    Ford 1720 4wd out

So, I broke the lever on my 1720 that puts the tractor in and out of 4wd. It pulled up and broke the stop and went past the stop so it wouldn't go in. I took it to the shop and they diagnosed the problem. They found all the broken parts except for a steel ball that they couldn't find. They...

    Dump trailers

I'm thinking about a dump trailer for work and around the house. I really am leaning towards a deck over because of the drop down sides. Basically comparing 4 brands. PJ, brimar, cam superline, and Appalachian. The Appalachian is 8' wide and the others 7'. The others have metal drop down...

    Chipper/shredder opinions

I've got a simple maybe even stupid question. What is the difference between chippers and shredders and the size of material that can be run through them? I'm beginning to look for a chipper(maybe shredder combo) for my ford 1720 (28hp). Trying to decide if the shredder option is worth it or...

    Loader snow plow problems

So, I built a mount for an old 6' Meyer for my 1720 ford. It works pretty well in straight position, but when I angle the blade the leading edge tends to dig in on softer surfaces. I should try to get some pics up to show the specifics. I basically lift the plow by using the tilt on the...

Large capacity bucket for light materials

I'm thinking about building a large capacity bucket for light weight materials like grass clippings and brush. I'm going to make my own quick attach setup for a Ford 1720. Does anyone know of a good source online for the spring loaded pins? They don't have to be just like the skid steer ones, but at least be spring loaded so they stay put. Thanks, Nick.

    Forks  What type of forks?

I'm looking into getting some pallet forks for my 1720 Ford. I am either going to just get the forks and build my own frame, or get the frame and forks together. What is the best style of attachment for the forks to have? I'm talking about shaft mount forks or hook mount forks. I could...
