    Buying Advice Kubota L5450

I asked a John Deere service manager for his honest opinion on how long compact tractor diesel engines last - he claimed about 4,000 hours. Kubota diesel engines are some of the best out there, so who knows how long this particular one will provide reliable service. $18,000 CDN is a reasonable...

Where to go for rear tire replacement???

I called around a few years ago to retail tire shops asking if they loaded tractor tires. Sure! one said so I went there to have a leak repaired. When I went to pick it up they had removed all the calcium chloride from it and fixed the leak and had a employee help me "load" it into the back of...

Grease - is there no better way? Can we talk about this?

I've had guys on my crew grease tractors to the point I couldn't hardly walk by the tractor without ruining clothing. The grease that oozes out of pins and bores does no good; Usually I pump one shot per fitting and occasionally wipe up the mess with a gasoline soaked paper towel.

    Varmit Proofing

Kill the vermin. I place Tomcat or equivalent poison where domestic pets can't get into it. Mouse/rat poison works because mice and rats can't vomit out the poison once they realize something's not right.

$10K L5030 Plus Restoration, or $25K Newer Tractor With Perilous Electronics?

I looked for a pre-emission for half a year - these are at least 13 years old now. Finally bought a 2015 L4760 (Kubota) and now have over 100 hours on it. Regenerations come around pretty quickly the way I use the tractor - 1,500 RPM usually and limited idling. If the particulate filter is good...

    Calcium Chloride for dust control

Please... no lectures about the environment. Highway departments use CaCl2 for ice and dust control by the barge load. On gravel roads if applied properly it will draw moisture from the air and gravel and form an almost pavement like surface. One treatment will last for several years if done...

I overfilled the crankcase with oil once - it idled fine but under a load it smoked and lost power.

JD 790 Clutch Pedal Linkage Adjustment

I have the same tractor with the same issue. I have not tried adjusting the rod to the rear. Seems like it might work. If you try adjusting that could you post the results?

which used Deere Compact tractor for mowing and snow removal

I've had a 790 for 26 years. Every year the time and sweat involved with hooking up the mid mount mower gets worse. This spring it took almost 2 hours. I've tried rear mounted mowers and they do a nice job but turning radius has a big tail swing. If money and space allows it's more practical to...

Calcium filled tires… Same pressure test?

Many tons of Calcium Chloride is spread on roads for dust control and to melt ice. In tractor wheels it can provide years of trouble free service.

What to do after rollover and hydrolock

A tractor on its side can have a runaway engine too. You were wise to shut off the engine quickly. Hydrolock can bend connecting rods but diesel engine components are very rugged. Kubota makes a very good engine. You're probably going to be fine. For extra peace of mind you could run the engine...

    front tires for deere 4300

Front tires under a loaded FEL bucket take a beating with the weight and the turning I'd recommend the 10 ply and compare the tire load rating - they vary.

    JD 790 PTO Adjustment

I've had to do it for years. One hand on the PTO lever, turn the key with the other hand a second before lifting the PTO lever. If you time it right the engine is just starting to fire as you engage the PTO. The funny thing is that disengaging the PTO by depressing the clutch stops the PTO from...

Loader I Buggered Up My Loader

Interesting.... When you figure it out would you post what the solution was? We had a L3400 and in below freezing weather the bucket wouldn't operate but the boom would. Never did figure that out but I assumed it was in the spool assembly (lever control assembly).

    Question for electricians

Electric water heaters and ranges are usually fed with 10/2 or 10/3 romex and a 30 amp fuse - however if you look at the wires inside the appliance they're usually 12AWG. Those wires are short runs so it works. The Amazon amp meter with its 10 AWG wiring is a short run and should be OK. If...

    JD 790 PTO Adjustment

Have you tried starting the engine a second before engaging the PTO? With practice the engine will start and the PTO grinding will be minimal.

    JD 790 PTO Adjustment

My 790 has not allowed a grind-free pto engagement for years. Attachments with low rotational mass engage easier (fertilizer spreader & winch) but the mower really grinds. Adjusting the clutch throws the transmission out of whack; it's already at the top 1/2" of clutch pedal travel. I get around...

    Error code PO335 on L4760

Thanks, I'll give that a try Update... The 9 step procedure suggested by RjCorazza worked and allowed me to clear the PO335 error code.Used the tractor all morning and the code has not returned yet. Many thanks!

    Error code PO335 on L4760

Update.... Couldn't clear the error code using the 5 step process that starts with pressing the 2 regen buttons while turning the key... Anyhow I've put another 20 plus hours on this machine with no operational issues. The wires to the crankshaft position sensor look good. No other warning...

    Error code PO335 on L4760

I've owned this 750 hour 2017 tractor 2 weeks - it runs fine and I'm learning to cut down on idling and to keep the RPMs up to reduce PM regeneration (it's done 2 so far). Yesterday while cycling through screen displays I see a PO335. Kubota error codes I've found online don't list a PO335 but...

Tier 4 emissions Kubota L4760 reliability

I have put about 20 hours on the L4760 and am generally pleased. I've done one regeneration and am now at 82% PM so clearly I need to change my operating habits - like idling or keeping the RPMs higher than I'm used to. I added a Gladiator 56 since the tractor came with a front remote. I added a...

    BX23D adding Kubota 'visible' filter/separator

On edit... in response to TSHEP's question.....I found this picture online - both my JD 790 and L4790 came with this type of filter. The filter itself presses on to a stub on the top of the housing and is held in place by friction. The bowl is removed by the pot metal threaded collar. The file...

    Talk me in/out of a Kubota ZD-1211 w/ 72” deck

I had both decks on 2 different 30 HP Kubota Diesel zero turns - IMO the 60" cut much better than the 72", handled better and had more power. The difference in fuel consumption was not enough to notice.

Buying a ZTR, what should I look for, or avoid?

25 or 26 HP is the maximum cut off before T4 emissions are required. At work we had a ZD331 pre-emission and I liked it so much we ordered a new one in 2018. The newer one had T4 emissions; a small turbo looking device, a large filter but no DEF. Kubota tacked on additional of frame in the...

Buying a ZTR, what should I look for, or avoid?

I bought a used diesel Kubota ZD26 with a bagger two years ago. Extremely pleased. New diesels are very expensive and complex with emissions.

Tier 4 emissions Kubota L4760 reliability

Thanks! At work we had a 2005 35HP Kubota with a farm winch. An inmate was pulling a log at an angle (he knew better) and tipped the tractor on its side. It ran away and they couldn't shut it down. Finally, after it burned all the engine oil it could it stopped. Pulled it out, refilled it with...

Tier 4 emissions Kubota L4760 reliability

I've been looking for an older Kubota without emissions but they're getting scarce. This L4760 has the particulate filter and more electronics than I would prefer... Have there been problems with this filter and the regenerative cycle, or the engine computer? The FEL stick appears to be...

    New grapple - W.R.Long Gladiator

72 years old with 21 acres I've been trying to keep clean and 4-5 cords of firewood every year. I had reached the point where I couldn't cut, haul and burn brush due to my age. The Gladiator 56" grapple might be my solution. Looking to buy a Kubota L4760 HST (2017 with 700 hours) , taking the...

Zero Turn mower for moderate slopes?

I have a 2015 Kubota ZD326 and I feel safe running laterally along steep banks that I used to hand mow because compact tractors (790 with a mid-mount mower) never felt safe. The center of gravity must be lower with the Kubota than with the compact tractor. Running downhill requires some caution...

    snowmobiles

My first sled was an early 70's Moto-Ski. Not very reliable, to put it politely. In '93 I bought a new Ski-Doo Grand Touring. A wonderful sled. Still own it - it looks showroom condition. 4,400 miles. A good trail sled but very heavy. When I take the Grand Touring out on the trails it looks old.

    Poor bucket lifting power

I shimmed the pressure relief valve under the seat on my 790 Compact Tractor 15 or more years ago and am very happy with the additional lift capacity. It's not IMO unsafe or beyond the capacity of rams, pins, or the frame. Here's a post I found with the link to the thread: " Had very good luck...

Anyone try sharpening bush hog blades with flap discs?

I finally smartened up and use flap disks to sharpen mower blades after years of bench grinders and files. There are jigs to hold mower blades at the proper angle but free hand works well for me and doesn't take too much material off too quickly.

    Earth Anchor holding strength

We tried to pull out power line pole anchor from a 1930's line that had been abandoned. We had a full sized Volvo excavator (I can't recall the model or weight) and tried to pull the anchor out so it wouldn't be a mowing or trip hazard. It wouldn't budge - and if aliens ever wanted to tow the...

790 compact tractor 1,600 hrs vibration

Thanks, I use Stanadyne Performance Formula in my diesel engines and have for years. The fuel for this 790 comes from the same off road fuel tank that I run a Kubota ZD326 from and that idles smoother than the 790.

790 compact tractor 1,600 hrs vibration

It might be my imagination but the engine seems to vibrate harder at idle than it used to. I've owned this since new in 1999. The engine starts quickly and easily, seems to have full power and no sign of a miss or weak cylinder - it just has a stronger vibration than what I think it used to...
