Anyone use their tractor for mining?

Like the title says. Anyone use their tractor for mining operations, either hobby or business? I'm going to assume that if someone does, it's open pit unless they have VERY well ventilated and spacious tunnels, and spark arresters on the tractors.

    Annual Chimney Cleaning

Tractor and FEL make getting up and down from the roof a lot easier, and provide me a more stable work area holding the ladder in place. And yes, there's a 4x4 wedged under the FEL so it doesn't come down on me or collapse under me if the pressure leaks down. I tested it and it works great!

    It really does work

Was cleaning up the property this weekend, raking leaves out of the ditches along the driveway, filling up the FEL, and originally going to dump them in the compost heap. First load, drove to the end of the driveway and started down the trail toward the compost area and promptly buried the...

Do/Did you let your under aged kids drink alcohol?

I did, when they reached their mid-teens. But only while I or my wife was there to supervise them. Not at parties, and not if they had friends over. (Wouldn't have been fair to their friends, and I've always felt that if someone wanted their kids to drink, they're the ones to make that...

So what have you moved lately?

The Perpetual Stone Wall Project. This one goes along the southeast side of the driveway, set back about a dozen feet from the drive. Ones I can't carry, or roll by hand, get tractored, or jacked. Here's the largest one I've pulled. And it took some hand shoveling to ramp it out of the hole it...

    Well doggone it, first problem.

My seat safety switch died at 47 hours. Was having problems with it the past couple of hours; having to sit my behind a bit firmer in the seat to make contact. Rocking back and forth coming down the trail and the engine suddenly died. Had to unplug it and short the circuit to get the beast...

New Hampshire 1 March 2012 Snow Removal

Bobcat, CT230, 7ft 3pt backblade angled 30 degrees, 7TL FEL with standard bucket. R4 tires. 6:00 AM. Got up. Flipped the switch on the tractor block heater, made coffee and had breakfast. Shoveled off the porch (tractor doesn't climb stairs, too wide, the tractor, not the stairs.) Cleaned...

    A LAMBORGHINI CUT???

The New LAMBORGHINI Green Pro Range of CUTs - TractorByNet.com Since new tractors seem to price about the way new cars and trucks do, does that mean these tractors start at $200,000 ??? I was disappointed to see the hp ranging from 23 to 50. I was expecting something like 700hp and something...

    3pt weight box

You know how some folks fill their rear weight boxes with sand, gravel, or scrap metal. Some fill it with concrete, or lead. Some stick pcv pipe in the concrete to hold tools. What if you filled a bunch of cut pcv pipes with concrete, set handles in the tops, and used those to fill the weight...

Well, now I feel really stupid

Had an engine block heater installed in my new tractor before it was delivered. I went over the engine and tractor at least 4 times and couldn't find the darned plug for it. Had to have the dealer come back and point it out to me. The plug had been tucked under the starter motor were I...

    Pulled the trigger

Bobcat, CT230 FEL w/bolt on cutting edge 3pt angled back blade Filled tires (R4s) Engine block heater $18,891 Don't really need the block heater in NH, but I can flip the switch on in the morning before I have my coffee and when I'm done the oil is warmed up enough to flow freely as soon as I...

    On buying used

I'm looking at some used 2008 bobcat ct230s with FELs. They're rental units, with about 450 and 650 hrs respectively. New, they'd be asking about 22000. These are priced 19500 and 16000 respectively. I know rentals have a habit of being used hard, and put away wet. Those asking prices seem...

The Ten Commandments of Tractor Safety

I came across this link when doing a search for PTO accidents. It's a Powerpoint presentation by the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries. 'The Ten Commandments of tractor safety were developed by Kubota, and they are considered industry standard among tractor companies...

    Custom Tractor Paint Jobs

You have a great machine. But it looks just like every other machine made by that manufacturer. So who's gotten a custom paint job for their tractor, or had artwork done on it?

    Buying Advice  Getting to Yes

Worst place you've taken a tractor (and gotten away with it)

I liked the what have you lifted with your FEL thread. Was wondering about peoples' stories of where they've been with a tractor. You know, swamps, rivers, mountains, log piles, talus slopes, sandy deserts (does driving a tractor for Uncle Sam over sand dunes in Abu Dhabi count? - that was...

    Price Check  Cub Cadet 7300

with the 476 FEL and with a 7500 Woods Backhoe. Being sold by owner asking for $14,500 Now the 7300 model was manufactured between 1998 and 2003. So parts availability for an 8 year obsolete model might be a serious consideration. Brand new, that whole package would have sold for $21,000...

    OMG! Old Sears 3 wheeler

Came across this earlier today. First tractor I ever used. Made for small acreage farmers. Had an articulated frame steering. Didn't have a 3-point hitch, but ran just about every type of pulled farming attachment (all specially made for this tractor) except for a baler, FEL, or backhoe...

    Bio-mowers

I know this is going to sound like heresy, but does anyone use a rotary mower to knock down the big stuff in their lawn, and then keep it maintained using sheep?

Do computes and high-end electronics belong in tractors?

Just how fancy an ignition and emission controls should a tractor really have? How many sensors do you really need on the engine and transmission? And what about the comfort factor? A decent seat is great, but do you really need a craft-matic adjustable chair in it's place? I can see sticking...

Financing  The difference between business and family purchases

I was snooping over on the Bobcat site and came across this page dealing with tax incentives and depreciation of tractors. 2010 Bonus Depreciation and Section 179 Deductions - Bobcat Company It finally sunk in how farms can afford those multiple, giant, 2000+ hp workhorses while average joes...

    Buy American!?!

Many, hopefully most, of us are concerned about patriotism and supporting American businesses and workers. However, most of us are also pretty pragmatic and we'll go were we think we can get the best deal for our money. I don't think there is a single, U.S. manufactured tractor where all the...

    LEMONS!

You know what I mean. You bought a brand new tractor and you had nothing but problems from the moment you got it. Who's got the best (or is that the worst) lemon story? Manufacturer & model, what went wrong, what happened to fix it or make it good?
