    JD 261 Grooming Mower???

Hi, the warm weather is back and so I am once again thinking of the tractor. I have a chance to pick up a used JD 261 5 foot grooming mower to pull behind my JD790. I have some tight areas so a 5' or at tops 6' is what I need. It appears to be in good shape (some surface rust no dents or abuse)...

Price Check AGCO tractor price good/bad?????

I have no real need or desire for hydro myself it would have to be a standard feature for me to go for it on a tractor. I really don't even think about shifting. I suppose if I did daily FEL work for hours on end I might crave the auto.

Price Check AGCO tractor price good/bad?????

OK then how does this price sound? AGCO ST35X with AGCO loader, 4WD on R4s. $14,247.50 tax included. Very good, for me that is. I would have JUMPED on that. I think that's more machine than my buddy wants and he also wants hydro. His uses will be 5-6 acres of grass with the mower and light...

Price Check AGCO tractor price good/bad?????

Thanks for the advice guys I will pass it on to my friend. I thought it was pretty good. I almost bought an ST30X with FEL and rotary cutter for 15,900 from the same dealer. I really liked the dealer but the JD dealer sold me a 790 for 14,900. Both the tractors seemed very close in specs...

    3 point hitch towing

This is the top view of a 3pt hitch tow bar I am working on. I found this in the woods at my buddies place when he started to build his new house. Seems it was off an older and long ago departed Case homeowner tractor. It was very rusted with rusted out category 0 pins on the sides. I broke...

    Manure hauler

It was a 2 horse tag trailer that has been used to carry a baby roller for asphalt work. I was going to use it to transport the ractor but it is a little too small. It is very strong with about 18' sides and a ramp so I am going to use it as a manure wagon/ utility trailer. It has a VERY...

Hey I\'m a farmer..well sort of I went today to help a friend bring in some hay. This is the first time I ever used a real full sized tractor and implements. So here I am out on the road for the first time with a JD 3020 and load of hay. Funniest thing happened I see this guy stop his car and...

    Wahoo... made my first bale!

Well I got my first tractor a JD 790 about a month ago and being a city boy from Brooklyn, NY never envisioned myself baling hay! Today a friend of mine asked me for a hand baling hay, he knows I have the tractor so he let my use his. It was a IH 2444 with a Case 220 baler. I watched him...

    50 hour service

All went well! One question my machine called for HyGard Lo Vis and I used it, it is light amber in color. The stuff that came out was pink (tranny fluid color) and looked nothing like HyGard. Don't they have HyGard LoVis in Japan?

    55 gallon drum weight?

I saw a post awhile back about using a 55 gallon drum for a weight. other than that I don't remember much. This is what I am planning on doing. I was goign to buy 2 -3 point hitch ends ( $2.99 at JD) and weld them onto rebar that I will drive through the center of the drum (standing up). I...

    50 hr service

I am closing in on the 40 hour mark so I am looking to go pick up the filters/fluids for my 790. Guess I am going to go with the JD 0-40 synthetic oil and the JD filter. I like Mobil 1 filters but I had no luck finding the right one in stock. I also looked at getting the hydraulic fluid filter...

    Rotary Cutter  Rotary cutter

I change the height of my tail wheel for cutting my yard and when cutting rough stuff. Is it OK is I change the nut and bolt setup at the rear aand replace it with a stout pin from JD of the same lenght and diameter. It is a pain to always need 2 wrenches to undo the bolt and a pin would be...

    Love my 790!

At about 35 hours now on this tractor I am starting to make better more effective use of this tractor. My digging and FEL skills have improved so that the work is going much faster. he lack of HST, synchros or shutle shift seemed to be slowing me. Now I think I am 90% as fast with the gears...

    Plastic Barrel for Fuel

OK I have a plastic barrel and pump that I want to starrt getting off-road diesel in for my tractor use. Someone on this forum mentioned that SOME barrels are not suitable and may leech some of the barrel chemicals into the fuel. So far I have been able to find out on the internet that barrels...

    Which synthetic oil???

Well I just got my 790 about 10 days ago but I am over 30 hours, so I am starting to think about my 50 hr maintenance. I use Delo 400 in my Ford PSD but I am leaning towards using synthetic in my tractor. Why use it in the tractor and not the truck? Because I am noit going to be extending the...

    Big rock!

Well my neighbor gave me a clevis and some chains yesterday so Inanturally put them to good use today. This was a flat shelf of a rock that stuck out of a slope. The horse use to sort of stumble down it so I thought I'd remove it. The tractor pulled it with ease. I have no idea what it...

    Tires  790 tire pressure/flat

What are you guys running in your 790s with FEL and R-4s. My tires seem rock hard. The sidewalls on the front deform slightly with a load in the bucket and hitting bumps but I don't think the rears ever flex. I think they are 30 or 36 lbs. in the rear because it had some chalk writing on it...

Anyone know anything about Challenger tractors?

I almost bought an AGCO tractor. AGCO owns lots of companies. I think they claim the AGCO models "replace" the defunct Allis Chalmers line. I think most of their AGCO models will correspond to a Massey Ferguson model since AGCO owns them as well. From what I saw everything is the same. For...

    What no ideas?

Come on folks somebody's gotta have an idea??? Let me try again. I have been having a great time brush hogging with this cutter, no complaints. It came setup with the tail about 1 1/2" higher than the rear and that works great in the brush. For the time being I am going to cut the lawn with...
