Just curious how many people qualify for the 0% interest anyway. I remember reading last summer that only 5% or so qualify for the 0% auto loans.

You need a 700 plus or better credit rating most times to qualify for a 0% loan or I have been told.

On any loan start up there are various reports and background checks that need to be done. These are not free. The $1400 cash back for a cash deal is pretty much the cost of originating and processing the loan.

Back a few (?) years, it was not uncommon to encounter discounts for cash in many retail arenas. It was just a reflection of the fact that buying on credit will cut into the merchant's profit margin. If you use plastic when you buy groceries, you take about 2 or 3 % away from the merchant. That's why I use cash for the local businesses. I use plastic, but only if I'm buying at a chain store. Your local community will be better off when you buy locally and use cash.

Thank you VERY much!!
I'm not really local to you but I'm sure your local people appreciate it.
With the margins that we deal with nowadays, that 3% means alot!

A dealer quoted me $24,000 for a TC40 tractor and loader with the 0%
financing for 4 years. Or if I had my own financing it would be $1400 less.
NH 0% deal works out to be about 3% for the life of the loan. How can they claim 0% financing? What a joke. I guess NH is not one of my choices anymore it is between Kubota and JohnDeere.

Maybe this dealer is just being honest up front. Maybe the other two are pocketing the money if you pay cash or use other financing instead of giving it back. Just a thought. If he would have told you $24,000 regardless of the financing, what would have been your take on that? It seems like he is trying to work a good deal for you while not taking a beating himself. I don't know if that is a good price on that tractor or not but I would rather have an upfront dealer than one who beats around the bush and hides things.

You can look at this two different ways. At least New Holland is giving you back the cost of financing if you choose to pay cash. Kubota and Deere are pocketing the cash savings.

As for what % quality for 0% - its probably close to 90% for us, its rare that anyone does not get it. (Around here anyway)

in addtion they usually like to end the "promotional rate" if you are late on a payment... (then it reverts to like 12% back to date of purchase)

ie read the fine print.

Back a couple of years ago on a Saturday, when I went to pick up my toothbar, I didn't realize the dealer did not accept plastic. It would cut 2-3% out of his money, which I never really thought about. But he trusted me enough to send me home with the toothbar if I'd put a check in the mail on Monday. What a guy.......

It is very common here to give cash back in leu of cheap financing. if you don't like it, don't buy it.

I carry very little cash and use plastic for everything..I try to stay away from the places that don't except it. Actually I don't even write checks out any more because I pay everything through my credit unions online service.

So Inspector...how do you like your FREE toothbar?:D ;)

Yep! My dealer does the same thing. He sent me home with a "free" toothbar because I had more stuff on order and he said he would put it all on the same ticket when the rest of the stuff came in. Sure enough, when I went to get the order, I had to remind him to put the toothbar on the ticket. I'd say he trusts me to a fault.
