Could those of you with a late model Ford superduty gas pickup take a look and advise whether there is a little flapper that the gas pump nozzle must push open to fuel the truck? Last week, for the first time in 4 years my truck didn't want to accept fuel, even though it had only 1/4 tank. There's either something obstructing the fill line or the vent line. I tried inserting a fish tape, but it wanted to snag on something, which seemed odd. Here's a pic of my fill opening. I'm wondering if the flapper dislodged. I doubt it was ever there, but thought it worth asking.

TIA,

check in behind the filler and under the truck; the vent hose may be kinked or disconnected from the emissions canister that it attaches to. Check for build up of mud or road crap, if none visible then you may have to replace that unfortunately expensive canister. hope it helps.

I have never owned a Gas Superduty but have had 3 diesels. No flapper. Also had about 10 F-150's and Ford SUV's and non of them had a flapper. I am wondering if someone did not tamper with it? Maybe broke off a siphon hose in it?

I would also check for blocked or kinked hoses. You may have to drop the tank or just remove the claps from the hose that connects the filler neck and tank and take a look.

Thanks all. I've inspected as thoroughly as possible from the outside ( under the truck) with no evidence of anything amiss. I am concerned that someone may have messed with it, because the problem started after I spent a night at my workplace and a night at the dealer's waiting for an air conditioning condenser. It may be the charcoal canister because I just got a check engine light as well. Hard to understand with only 15K miles.

I don't know about the Ford but my daughter's Nisson has a filter on the tank with an electric wire attached that operates a valve. If that becomes disconnected the valve will not open when the engine isn't running and the fuel can only be delivered a few drops at a time. It took her over 20 minutes to put 10 gallons in to tank.

I replaced the filter for about $72 and the problem went away.

Have you noticed an increase in your fuel consumption? Maybe a gas tef lost his hose in your filler neck.

This makes me think there is a ball/float blowback preventer in the line that is jammed.

On my truck there is no evidence of this little item from the outside. It would prevent syphoning of fuel from the tank.:)

It should not be difficult to disconnect the filler hose and cap portion.

But with 15K miles on it im sure its under warrenty i would not touch it. Id let the dealer do it.

I have a feeling he has timed out on the warranty of 36 months. Its a 08 and the 09's from Ford are usually out in April so it was probably sold originally in the summer of 07 till the winter of 07.
