I'm on a few diesel truck site forums, and one thing I noticed is that Ford owners beat up on them selves over the short Cummings of Ford, they have the highest customer loyalty even with all the problems, but you should see the flame throwing going on there, You almost never see in fighting going on in the Dodge and GM forums.

The diesel guys always are a little more...well uh...well you know. I've been hanging around one of the big sites since 2000. some have eaten some chest beaten words...

There is no replacement for displacement...a 7.3 owner saws until he gets his 6.0
Ford is best because of the solid front 4x4 axle....until Ford changed that to.

Probably a few others to. :)

But many use to say they would love to have that Cummins in a Ford. Best all around combo they thought.

I do like the looks of the Ford. But looks don't get the trailers pulled down the road. A strong dependable engine does. I think I will keep my CTD,,,

I know some Dodge diesel and Ford diesel owners. ALL of the Dodge owners say they would like a better truck (not engine), it's the truck that gives them problems. I don't know how the new ones are rated. I don't listen that much anymore. But a few years ago there were a lot of problems. With the history I still wouldn't buy one.

But on the forums you will usually hear more complaints than praises.

We have a Dodge and that's my sentiment - although we've had very few problems with the truck anyway. I do wish it had independent front instead of the solid axle.

The biggest complaints about the new Fords seems to be coming from those who don't own one.

I think these could also be the people that don't want to own one..

As far as the Dodge truck being inferior, except for the motor, I have heard that before and I would also like see he looks of the Ford with the grunt of the CTD. But, I don't want to sacrifice the dependability of the CTD just for some good looking seats.

I bought my first diesel to haul equipment in 2002. I then upgraded to a 2005 CTD and I have only had to replace one single U-Joint on the driveshaft. I have never had an issuew with the truck itself other than that.. and tires of course. ...

I like my old 2001 7.3L, and have no plans on getting rid of it. I'll put new parts on it as I need them, and I can always get a new or reman engine if that day ever comes.

There's no way I'd touch any of the new diesels right now. Hopefully, a few years down the road we'll be able to look back at all of this mess in the diesel world and see it as a bump in the road while trying to meet the tougher emissions standards.

Frankly, I don't like seeing ANY of the manufacturers having problems with their diesels because it only puts off diesel acceptance in this country even longer. I'm looking forward to the day when, in the US, most every vehicle, car or truck, has a diesel option, or even better, a diesel/electric hybrid option, which will be far superior to the gas/electric engines.

I kinda like the solid front axle on my Dodge!:D :D

My Ford still has one, it's a 99. But I don't deal with the diesel stuff either, it's a gasser. So much for cheaper diesel. :) :D $7000 for the right to pay $.60 more a gallon for fuel.

that's it in the background of my avatar. Crew cab and a very rare 8' bed.

The only negatives to the new '08 Ford is the fuel mileage. All the new truck's mileage is down. If they were as bad as most people are claiming they are Ford would not be able to give them away. Most people are not as brand loyal as some people think. If they have a bad experience with a vehicle they may give it a second chance but seldom a third chance. All the manufacturers make good, solid trucks. For people to say a certain brand is no good when they've never even tried one makes no sense.

I like Ford trucks a lot, but no one makes a perfect truck, so until someone does, I'll continue to rip them and all the other brands, until they finally do.

To just sit there and say one truck is perfect and the rest are junk is just stupid and makes that person "brand loyal".

This is the same way I feel, except I don't feel like I can rip Dodge, since I have never owned one. I have owned GMC's and Chevy's. Good trucks, marginal engines and transmissions. They do seem like they've gotten their act together with the Duramax/Allison. I think Dodge is a good truck with an excellent powertrain.
