When I bought the new Power Wagon I noticed the recommended oil weight is - 0W40 full synthetic. I'm sure it has to do with the new design of engines but also the hope for improved mileage. Whatever - I'm happy. Got 5K miles on the new pickup and overall the digital dash says - 18.1 mpg. In my 2009 Kubota M6040 I uses 15W40 because that's what the manufacturer recommends for year round use.
AND - I SURE don't think that following the manufacturers recommendations is, in any way, being a wise a@@. Being a wise a@@ is thinking you know more about what to use than the engineers that design the engines and their recommendations.
