Well them disposable ones do last a while, got a sears with about 600 hours[course had to get head gasket replaced at about 100 hours, one of those good kohler commands every body brags on,than had to get carb rebuilt..But got a yardpro [bought at lowes] with 20 hp kohler, ain't had nothing go wrong on that motor, its got about 600 hours too.

And that one you're replacing, how long you had it?

You are right about being expensive,I have been talking about buying a cheap one here,[that don't cost no more than 3,500!]

True..I had too many numbers ratlling around in my head and couldnt think of the other BX models...The BX1500 is perfect for the average homeowner. In fact I almost bought that, until I saw the BX23 with the backhoe...The wife said get what you want...Big mistake on her part, but I complied.

I had good results with my Gravely ZTR even have some hills. Upgraded twice now have a much bigger tractor. I would think you could find someone unloading some landscaping equipment.

If I can find a landscaper going out of business or a widow that would be ideal (for me).. the last mower I only changed a spindle on the deck, tires and blades in 15 years..

and thansk Tim, thats a little closer to my price range... it is only an acre

Johnny, have you looked at the Hustler mini Z ZTR's? the small one is in your targeted budget and Hustler builds fine machines.

I have lived on our 3 acres for about 12 years now, of which I mow only about 1.5 acres. I started out with a $1300 dollar MTD. That lasted about 5 years, and I hated it. The deck fell apart on it. I then bought a cheaper John Deere, that I bought at Lowes, and called a Scots brand. Cheaper still meants about $4k. It was a 25 hp with a 54" deck. It was much better but still strugled on the hills for traction. I ended up with a Kubota BX2350. I have an end loader, rear blade and 60" deck. I have alot more in it than it sounds like you want to spend, but I almost feel I wasted my money on the two previous mowers. If all you want to do is mow and your ground is flat and smooth, you can get by with a cheaper mower. I use mine to move dirt, haul fire wood, clear my 600 foot driveway of snow, and mow, and I have fun doing it. The only thing I'm upset about with my Kubota is that I didn' buy one 10 years ago. I'm not trying to talk you into something you don't need, just look at other uses you might have for it.

First off i have a Cub ZTR 22hp Kaw and a 50" cut and i love it. It has a great cut and is pretty quick.
I also have an 84" pto finish mower i can use cub to do my yard in about the same time as the big one.
So what i am saying is no problems no complaints.

Second off no disrespect to the guys and gals at Lawnsite but if you are not using a high end [read expensive] unit you are using garbage.
I could go buy a good machine to last me 10 plus years or i could let this one just break down and go buy a new one or 2 for the price difference.
If it didn't have the Kawasaki engine i would not have bought it.

Also just because it is made by MTD doesn't mean it is a bad machine. Most companies out there have different levels of quality and different names.

You know Black and Decker own Dewalt does that make Dewalt a bad product?
