1 month on Massey Parts

Hey All,

We took in a Massey 1160 that needed a clutch job. 3000 hours and it was toast. We ordered the parts from Massey and it took a month to get them all. Customer is not mad at us but sure was surprised that it would take so long to get the parts.

My friend is a Massey dealer and he said that was not abnormal.

Montana sure is doing a great job when it comes to dealer and customer support overall.

I know that there is a third generation dealer in my area that would be giving Massey up if it wasn't for their dedication to their customers. Massey charges them $300 a month to be tied in to their parts computer so they can wait a month for parts. They are also a Montana dealer.

I've noticed a few tractors at Montana in Arkansas that had major components removed from them so that customers didn't have to wait on parts. That's pretty rare these days to see a company go to these lengths.

I will repeat this again in this thread because I think it deserves repeating. I ordered the adapter for my old style Ansung Loader to make it a quick attach bucket. The adapter comes in two pieces the part that fits on the tractor and a part that you weld to the bucket after you cut off the old mounting brackets on the bucket. Montana had the tractor part but did not have the Bucket piece. The went ahead and gave me a new 6 foot bucket with the new piece attached and just traded it straight across for my old 66 inch bucket which was bent at the top. This saved me the cost of having someone cut the old mounting brackets off then grinding the metal smooth and then measureing and finally welding the new bracket on. I am sure by not having to do that I recieved a substantial savings. Plus I got a new 6 foot bucket out of the deal to boot.

I think the reason it took so long, Massey Ferguson out sourses their clutches to a remanufacturer, and if you ordered a new one, it probably took them awhile to get because most of their clutch sales come from this rebuilder and are not new. That's the way it is here in California anyway. You also can send clutches to these remanufacturers yourself, this way you can specify what kind of linings you would like to have on the drive discs, depending on the application.

But shouldn't either the dealer or the manufacturer stock a few of these? I know that a clutch is not the most common part to fail but it is a wearable item. I hear allot about this "just in time" manufacturing and I think it stinks, there seems to be allot of holes in it.

"just in time" is the way everything is or is heading.
It's called "Lean thinking".....
I don't like it but it cuts down on the companies overhead.

Like the other member said, “Just in time” and that isn’t the only problem. Every manufacture is cutting costs anyway they can. If you do a search, I am sure that you will find that every manufacture that is on this site has had at least one customer that has waited for quite a while for a part. It is amazing that this thread was even posted. Must be a neither problem that we don’t know about, because any I repeat any dealer that has been in business for any time at all has had a part take far longer to get in than they thought that it should have and what do you think the customer always though?

Hi Jerry. Here is one reason for the post. A guy came here on the Montana side who griped about some internal engine parts his dealer ordered. He admittedly ran the machine without oil and blew up his engine. His own fault but he complained how long it took to get the parts, about a month.

That was numerous parts and the guy was taken really good care of by Montana. I hear so much from people about parts support from the more established names but am also hearing how long they take in many cases.

In fact, I had an Iseki TL2901 in for a clutch the same time as the Massey 1160 and was able to get parts quicker for the Iseki. Is this a slight on Massey? No. Just a comprison on how no matter what tractor you may buy, be prepared that parts could take some time in some cases.

This is not an attempt to slight Massey. I like their product's, it was more a see, even owning a Massey does not guarantee quick parts support. Sorry if it came off wrong.

Really if we all sit back and just think about all of the parts that make up a tractor and how many years different models have been gone etc.
We are ALL very lucky we get the parts we need LOL.

You got that right. It is amazing that they all keep up with parts as well as they do.
