"If you knock off tomato you then use tomato paste to reattach. I went thru a couple of gallons....it don't really stick."

LOL, I like that.

Timb,
Yes the old little Farmalls are great cultivators, I believe that is really what they were made for. Around her you can pick up a decent running one with mounted cultivators for about the same price as an average riding mower. Imagine still going good 50 years and more after they were made.

I see the little Farmalls in use a lot. See a guy weekly going over is veggie garden and his tobacco crop. The are nice little machines.

I hate to HOE. It's work and I'm lazy. It's good exercise and all but I'm a hack and it's not uncommon for me to whack off a bean plant or corn stalk.

Gardening is a learning experience for me. Dad used to have them and I helped plant some and harvest some but attention to detail was not too much on my mind. I can't ever remember seeing weeds in his gardens but he worked hard and long on keeping it weed free.

There's always next year! I'll have rows 5 foot apart, and I don't really care about wasting space because I have more garden than I can use. As far as adding stuff to the soils, well a little 10-10-10 now and then, a cover crop and this year a health dose of lime is about all the garden gets, well I do dump the leaves in the garden and till them under too.

If I recall, they've got on the order of 24"-25" crop clearance and tread width is adjustable front and rear to fit your rows .

Yes indeed. My first tractor was an 52 Super C.

Great little old tractors - just not as flexible as today's CUTs.

Absolutely. The only thing the Super C would do better than a modern CUT was cultivate - but it sure was more eye catching. I added a 3pt to mine and a set of remotes. The weight of the 3 pt required front weights, which let to . . . Frankly, if I had been able to add a BH to it I might have kept it. Ah well.

I like just about all tractors including modern CUTs, but to my eye there are very few sights as classic as a bright red Farmall letter series, a deep green field and a sunny day. Ol' Ray Lowey had it right. I will someday have at least one, perhaps a Super C or an H, even if I have to really stretch the truth to come up with a 'justification'.

(To stay on subject... with OR without a cultivator!) /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I saw one of those Allis' go by on a truck last summer. Ugly as all get out, but extremely utilitarian. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you ever get the chance, drive one, or, at least sit on one. The visibility is excellent.
