Slammer, you said that Cub Cadet , which is owned by MTD, actually is still building the tractors outside of MTD manufacturing? Are you also saying MTD hasn't changed specs and design since they bought Cub?
I had heard of AYP as being a larger manufacturer, but wasn't aware of the new company's name. Who else builds machines, other than AYP, MTD, and Deere?

The Cub Cadet is basically unchanged since MTD took over. The 1000 series lacks the cast iron front end but off hand that's about all I can think of besides the obvious cosmetic updates. There may be more, i'll get back to you on that.
Well as to manufacturers, there are still several. Simplicity is it's own mark but also owns Snapper, Ferris, Massey ferguson, AGco, and Giant vac. Murrey is also still it's own company. Ariens/Gravely are one company with identical models. I am sure that their are probably 10 more that I can't think of right now. Keep in mind that I am only talking Lawn/Garden here. I have no real experiance with the large tractors.
