OK, I already know I'm going to take a beating on this one.

GSXR and Dargo are probably cringing just at the thought.

I need an oil change today (no choice). Pulling out tonight for a little ride (a little over 1000 miles each direction). Dealer can't fit me in.

Are these 10 minute oil change places OK?

I have available:
Jiffy-Lube
Pennzoil
Grease-monkey
A couple misc. places (Firestone, Meineke...)

I can say with some certainty that as long as the place you choose has oil in stock you'll be just fine. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks guys.

Not sure why you should take a beating on it. Any of the major oils when changed every 3k will do a good job of maintaining your vehicle.

it is not the oil but the "people" doing the process. I work with many people (over 10K people here) and the main reason/problem are:

1) forgot to install drain plug
2) did not install oil filter correctly

So far I know a few people that lost engines because of these simple steps missed.

I would not say they are maintaining your vehicle; rather this it is one step in the total process to maintain your vehicle.

Go get it done. It's better than driving 2000 miles with old oil.
You can get it changed again when you get back at dealer.
I'm not sure dealer is any better than a 10 minute place. Especially the ones that have have quick oil changes.

Richard - Not sure what you mean about taking a beating on it. It's the wife's van. I called the dealer and got the mileage of the last oil change. It's already been more than 3K miles. I'll be putting on about 2500 on this trip so I need to do it before I leave.

Mike - I will have a chance to pull it in the garage afterwards and inspect. This is just 1 step but I need this one now.

Brian

EDIT - I guess you pay a serious premium at these quicky places. $36 for 5 qts Pennzoil (not syn) + filter.

And I know a lot of people who have had their oil and oil filter changed without incident.

correct and it SHOULD always be they way since you are PAYING for a service. So far, I am not impressed by the people there, products used, nor the process.

But ha, that is me.
