I was looking for an OK to use these places but now I have to qualify everything in my defense.
No need to defend or explain. The situation you're in is one of the reasons quick change oil places were created. Enjoy the drive and your time at Disney.

( It's already been more than 3K miles. I'll be putting on about 2500 on this trip so I need to do it before I leave.
)

And the owners manual says reccommended oil change at 7500 miles???? Why worry about changing it at 3K?
I see another post about having 5700 miles on the oil. Change it before you leave.

( Why not take it to Magic Kingdom and have goofy do it! Same thing…….:) Then they can charge you the “special Disney price” of 4x normal and then pay $3 for a 12 oz water while you wait….

You can’t tell I just came back from there last month. Not, going back for a lonnnnng time. Almost "lost it" a few times with the "nice" people there.

Have a good time and I hope everyone gets better. )

Thanks Mike.

I have to work so I doubt I'll get out of the hotel much anyway.

Personally, the whole Disney thing does nothing for me. I'll do a park 1 day for the kids sake.

I guess it's a matter of perception:

"My Lexus dealer changes $55 but I would NOT have to worry about some moron screwing up my filter or drain pug. I also get a washed car and a vacuumed car. I also get free food etc."

There is no free lunch. At $55.00, you're buying your own coffee and donuts.

Run it in there, have them change the oil and go enjoy yourself without worrying about it. I've used them for 20 years and never a complaint. The one I use carries any flavor of oil you want and I think that's at least as good as a dealer who fills it with some unknown product that they know very little about apart from the profit they make on a quart.

As a matter of interest, the place I use quotes a price of $33.50 for 14 qts and a filter for a Powerstroke. I've don't know what oil they use for their standard service but I bet it'll last at least 3,500 miles under normal conditions.

Sorry to hear the family has been sick. There's a lot of crud going around this winter. Head for the sun and have a great time.

Some years back I had the oil in our Explorer changed and drove all the way home only to find the filter leaking at the block. Now when the oil is changed I start the vehicle and look underneath myself before leaving Minute Lube for the peace of mind that it brings. I wonder if they can handle a TC-40D an Minute Lube? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

true, but I do not have to worry about some "person" screwing up my car or getting oil all over the place. With the outside and inside clean, you can see that the sevice person took CARE on what he/she did!

Nevermind that the Corp office will make it right if unhappy.

Two points:

1. The Chevy dealer I worked at had a fleet account at Jiffy Lube. Wonder why? Hint: Overflow from the "lube rack".

2. If you think the guys at the dealership on the "lube rack" are ASE certified mechanics, they aren't. They are what ever $7.00 an hour buys these days.

Go to Spee-D-Lube or whatever. You will get no better from ANY dealership. (Lexus included.) I would suggest taking your own quality filter though, their in-house filters are just normally re-branded Fram-type junk.

You said "I know I'm going to take beating for this". I just meant I don't see why anyone would get after you for doing this. Probably 70% of the oil changes done or more are this way and most of these cars and trucks run thousands of miles worry free.

$36 is definitely an ouch!!! Most of the places around here are $19.95.

( You do not get highly skilled people for min wage either. )

Mike, I think that is a gross generalization and extremely unfair ... bordering on "arrogance". There are people out there who earn minimum wage who are very good at, and take pride in, what they do. Cut them a little slack.

My nephew is a Mercedes trained mechanic and I guarantee you that he doesn't change oil at the dealership. Who does? ... the minimum wage helper/gopher/floor sweeper ... under his supervision, ofcourse. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
